4,0 sur 5 étoiles God I loved Noah soo much. Soooo so much. That's basically my review 😏

In this book you will find:
✔️ a grumpy farmer
✔️ an educator who loves to wear funky earrings
✔️ a foul mouth 6 y/o who is adorable AF! (LOVED HER)
✔️ Benson & Stabler with a twist
✔️ a lot of carbs and jam
✔️ chapter long 🌶

It's a small town romance so you know the deal, she's come back from the city to her childhood hometown. He's also come back to take over the family farm. She's all rainbows and wacky earrings and he's grumpy sunshine perfection. Of course, it can't be a rom-com without adding in some far fetched notion like - you need to marry within the year to keep your grandmothers farm, and *voila* you have yourself a cutesy boots book! (but not always so cutesy if you get my drift 😏🤭)

I also did the audio as I read along. Kit Swann portrays 30 something y/o teacher, Shay Zucconi. Swan's steady pacing captures Shay's vulnerability perfectly, and beautifully manages to reflect Shay's complex feelings about her priviledged upbringing and complicated relationship with her past. Jason Clarke's gravelly voice as Noah, was a nice contrast to Swanns and those scenes..... Swann knew how to👏🏼 build 👏🏼that👏🏼 tension👏🏼 up and girllllllll I was feeling it!
Their performance together, immersing me into everything that was the town of Friendship.

I kinda want to swap my cotton farm for a Tulip Farm now, and I may or may not have ordered some funky avocado & cow earrings to wear to school (ya'll know I love my earrings). I think I'll keep my farmer though 🖤 Unless Noah comes around cause in that case, my 12 year relationship is totally not that serious 🤣🤣

4 little stars 🖤

4,0 sur 5 étoiles fake marriage/second chance romance on a farm

I wanted to love this book and give it 5 stars, but I can’t really do that and be truthful. This is my first book by Kate Canterbury and I really enjoyed most of the book. Shay inherits her step-grandmothers farm in the country but has to be married within a year to keep it. It turns out the hunky farmer next door is none other than her best friend from high school who she hasn’t seen in years. He’s now a prosperous farmer with multiple operations and employees and is the guardian to his cute but troubled 6 yo niece who cusses like a sailor and acts like a pirate. He was an ugly duckling in high school with a huge crush on Shay that he never got over. You can see where this plot is going but it didn’t feel trite. Shay is a hot mess but great in so many ways and I was definitely rooting for her. Gennie is a 6 yo pirate and I loved her personality, although she seemed to talk too maturely and was given too-adult duties for a 6 yo. Maybe 8 yo would have been more realistic? But I was willing to overlook that and go with it as she was so unique and enjoyable. I loved Noah but struggled with his personality inconsistencies - one minute he’s too shy and tongue twisted to speak to Shay, the next minute he’s into rough sex and dominating her in bed? That never added up to me. Either make him a bit more assertive around her in everyday conversations, or have him be more sweet and gentle in the bedroom. The Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde routine didn’t work for me, and I really really wanted to love all sides to Noah. What a great guy! I also thought the lack of openness with each other went on too long and made the book drag with repetition. Will somebody please step up and finally be honest with the other?! I understood the conflict but I was past ready for it to be over by the end. I found the farm operations very interesting and they made a great backdrop for this story! I never got tired of the talk of goats, bread baking, jam experiments, etc. The rescue dogs had the best names!! Thank you for proper grammar, spelling, and editing. I appreciate the professionalism and respect for your readers. Anyway, I liked the book a lot, but had to hold back a star and maybe a little more for the issues I’ve already mentioned. I hope Kate will give us books about the best friend Jaime or the odd character Christiane. They made great secondary characters! Don’t let my one star hold you back - this book was very enjoyable!

I really loved this. Shay inherits her grandmother's tulip farm but only under the conditions that she lives in Friendship, Rhode Island for a year and gets married. Enter in Noah, the hot grumpy bearded single dad farmer and her high school best friend, who has been in love with her since he met her. Gennie was my absolute favorite character. She was hilarious and had me laughing throughout the whole book. This book has some of my favorite tropes, especially boy obsessed! There are some spicy scenes that I really enjoyed. However, this couple needed to work on their communication. There wasn't much miscommunication more lack of communication. Noah was always too shy to express how he felt but it seemed like when he did Shay didn't listen. I don't like the whole "I'm going to leave to protect you" trope, which I'm glad didn't actually happen, but it stopped it from being a 5 star for me. I also think the ex deserved way harsher treatment than he received. Overall this book was really good and I hope the friends receive their own book.

I so wanted to give this book 5 stars. It started as a no brainer 5 stars for me; I loved shay’s character, Noah was amazing and Gennie made me laugh more than I thought I could laugh from a book. *SPOILERS* it started to go downhill for me when she had to move in to his house and this back and forth of insecurities really didn’t make sense to me. Hundreds pages went into “I love him but he doesn’t love me” and “I love her but she doesn’t love me” when it was more than obvious that they loved each other. I feel like we got so much repetition throughout the chapters on Shay’s feelings that at the end, it just annoyed me. Then, towards the end, it all happened SO quick that I felt like I got whiplash. It was soooo slow for like 400 pages then boom, we got together in a sec and that’s it. It’s still a good book and I’d recommend it, but we so didn’t need those pages of bluff.

When Shay’s life unexpectedly fell apart she went back to the small town she had lived in for a while as a teenager. Her step-grandmother left her a farm, but to keep it she needs to get married. Her old school friend is also back in town, at his farm next door and with a 6 year old precocious niece in tow. When he learns about her predicament he offers her a fake marriage in return for use of her land. Gennie was a bundle of fun and mischief all rolled in to one. Shay was a loving, sweet amazing woman who couldn’t see what she had to offer anyone. Noah was the high school geek, who is now successful, handsome, loyal, but still a little insecure. Their spark lingered from the start, but it took a while before Shay believe Noah really wanted her. I loved the inclusion of her friends, especially the adventurous Jamie. It takes a while for Shay to realise what she really has, but Noah is patient and determined and they eventually get their HEA. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

“Bodies are extremely temporary and they’re the least interesting things about us. They carry us around while we’re on this earth and there’s nothing more I can ask from my body than that. I certainly wouldn’t spend any time worrying about the size or shape of anyone else’s body. Not when I could care about their heart and their mind instead.”

4.5 stars.

I love when I pick up a book that I hold no expectations for and know pretty much nothing about and am totally captivated by it. This is what happened when I started reading In a Jam. I am so so glad this book was recommended to me (thanks @helplessreads) as I really did enjoy reading it. It’s funny, tender, and a page-turner all at once. The star of the show was of course Gennie, Noah’s niece; she was hilarious and made me giggle more than once. There’s something about a child swearing that makes me laugh every single time, lol. In a Jam is just FUN and felt so refreshing and different from the other romances I have been reading lately. I highly recommend it. Go read it!

4,0 sur 5 étoiles What an unexpected surprise

I went into this book thinking I need just a sweet small town book with some crushing, fake marriage and farm living..nope I got so much much more. I loved how much Shay and Noah grew into the adults they were from when they knew each other in H.S. Both had different lives she never felt like anyone wanted her, and he's always saving other people problems. Throw a quirky and outspoken niece in the mix daily living is hectic. Also I was thinking this slow burn would show Noah as a cinnamon roll, but Jesus, he was a dirty bourbon covered cinnamon roll. It is a slow burn, but the smut she put in wow wow. Had a wonderful time reading it.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Very Angsty Slow-Burn (Small Town Friends to Lovers)

Kate Canterbary is a new author for me, and I picked up this book at random. Glad I did.

This is good, slow-moving  HEA story that definitely has strong Hallmark vibes and is a lot angsty. While very heavy on character development and internal character dialogue, I love how she weaved in extremely funny and very well crafted pieces that bring in both levity and relatability.

For me, this book moved a bit too slow in some parts and was a pretty long read for the plot, but overall I enjoyed it.

And, Little Gennie has to be one of my absolute favorite characters all year... possibly of all time. She's so well written, hilarious, and somehow the epitome of awesomely wholesome.

Not sure if an audiobook is in the works for this book (?), but I'd love to hear Pippa Jayne perform Shay. She'd totally nail it!

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Charming, spicy, quality RomCom

This was utterly delightful and wholesome. I didn’t laugh out loud, but it was amusing and a foul-mouthed 6 year old with ADHD was pretty funny.

This isn’t a 5⭐️ simply because it didn’t blow me away. The plot structure was solid, the spicy and dialogue were phenomenal, the MCs were pretty well developed overall (though Shay could use a little more dimensionality), and there were some different twists to old tropes that freshened up the story. It did seem a 100 pages longer than necessary and the Christiane plot line was a little too convenient, but this was still a great story that I’d high recommend. I do wish there was more diversity in the characters.
