Seen a review on goodreads nail this book Kinda cute...kinda boring Took me over a week to read it, I just couldnt get into it,. Specially the further in I got the more I found myself stopping and skimming. Spoilers The H having been in love with the h since high school and him formerly being the over weight shy guy is cute. Him having gone to yale, grown up, become a successful lawyer then come back to take over the family business and help the town and being a confident man but turns into the same high school boy around the h is ridiculous. Most of the time hes moody and growly, in the bed room hes very dominant, but when it comes to being honest hes shy all over again. The h was left on her wedding day, her mom was never around always off working, shes never met her dad so she has issues. Shes the worse of the 2 characters. Shes blind to him no matter how much everyone points it out. I really started to skim her inner dialogue. She thinks something and then the next sentence is her contradicting what she just said. Both characters inner dialogue is way to long when they are have a conversation. Someone would say something, ot would go to inner dialogue and it would go on so long that by the time they responded I couldnt even remember what the other person had said. It sounded like a good story but it to drawm out and they characters arent assertive or mature enough for me (even though they are both mid 30s)
However, the story DRAGS on. The MC’s are worse communicators than the 6-year-old, Gennie in the story. They have the emotional maturity of an infant. I completely disliked the FMC. She’s either oblivious or dumb. The last 30% had me on the verge of giving 1 star and I rarely do that.
This was an okay read for me. I found the plot to be predictable and rather long winded. Lots of repetition and not a lot of forward movement with the main characters for most of the book. It was difficult for me to like Shay. I cannot get behind a heroine who is so whiny and weak. Self doubt is one thing but the constant inner monologue got old, fast. Gennie was adorable and if not for her, I probably would have quit the book long before getting to the end.
I kept seeing recommendations for this book so I figured I would give it a try. It was okay, in my opinion. Maybe that had something to do with me having higher expectations since I kept hearing about it. The storyline was okay as was the pace.
