This is book 2 in Maggie Cole's Mafia Wars, New York. If you read my review of book #1 (Toxic) you'll know that while I loved that story, I had some issues with it. Fortunately, those issues are not present in this one. What this book does have is everything I did love about Toxic ... A great story, likeable characters and all the emotions.

I love that Cole's hero and heroine in this story are both in their early 40's, so no older man..younger woman. Her heroine is a smart, accomplished woman who holds her own. In this one, the h and H have history that started in high school. Everytime they got close, he ran until she finally quit giving him chances. When she returns to N.Y. after years abroad he attempted another reunion. She was having none of it so when he later told her she should stay away from the guy she'd been seeing, she doesn't pay attention, to her detriment. He's from an opposing mob family who deals in trafficking women and after accusing her of betrayal With another man (not true), he drugs her and puts her up for auction. Of course, the H saves her, but to keep her safe he forces her to marry him believing the Mafia code (wives and innocent children are untouchable) will prevent the bad ex from trying to get her back.

Unfortunately, the bad Abruzzo famiglia have no honor and are out for revenge against the Marino famiglia and plan to use the h to make them and her suffer. As they deal with the numerous threats and harrowing situations they also deal with their relationship. This story is about mafia violence, kidnapping and threats. But even more, it's about learning to trust again, about having to earn trust after it's lost. The emotions both go through are realistic ... his regret for pushing her away so many times that she no longer believes anything he says now even when he does; her fear, even though her heart wants to believe, that he will do what he's always done and eventually run again leaving her, knowing it would break her this time. I loved every moment of this story. While our couple gets their HEA, the last chapter sets the stage for the next book.. 4.5 stars for this one.

After reading the first book of this series I wasn't sure I was going to continue with it. It was bogged down with too many characters and side stories which distracted from what was supposed to be the main plot. Honestly the only reason I moved onto this book was because I was in a book funk and a bit undecided on what I wanted to read next. Anyway it worked out for me because this book was much better than the first. The two main characters and their story was well developed. The side characters added to the story this time instead of distracting from it. Gianni was alphalicious and Cara was a strong heroine. They're chemistry was steamy.
The one complaint I have is the ages of the main characters and how that played out in the story. They're supposed to be in their early 40's, which is fine. I'm all for mature characters but then the author needed to stick to them being mature characters. Gianni's father spoke to him like he was a teenage boy and not a mature man and sometimes Gianni's behavior was more like a teenage boy than a grown man.
Cara was supposed to be a 41 year old career women who runs a successful business and yet she's wearing mini dresses. Yikes!
Also I realize this is fiction but she's 41 and gets pregnant almost instantly after only being off the pill for a couple of days and then starts having pregnancy symptoms immediately. It just didn't work.
Other than that is was an overall entertaining read. I'm not sure I will move on to the next book because I'm not all that drawn to the next main characters who were side characters in this book BUT there are a couple of side characters from this one that have grabbed my attention. I'm hoping Luca and Aidan have stories because those I definitely want to read.

Gianni found her again and made promises as usual and did not keep them. Until HR saw her again years later. Cupid hit him bad and he couldn't stop. She was starting to date one of his enemies and he kept on trying to stop it. Until he found she was being sold as a sex slave. He had to get her back at all costs. He had is cousin buy her and took off with her. He forced her to marry him and took off. They came back once they saw that they had been found by his enemy. A lot of twists and surprises.

Cara and Gianni have been on and off again since high school. Every time he says it'll be different, but ends up walking away and hurting her all over again. But since she's been in her 40s, she DONE. D. O. N. E. Done and when Gianni tries to warn her about her current boyfriend, she blows him off thinking he's just trying to win her back to break her heart again. Gianni knows he's messed up, but after the last time she wrote him off, he's been desperate to get her back. When her new "boyfriend" kidnaps her to get at Gianni, he knows he's got to take drastic measures to prove he's all in this time and to keep her safe.

I had super strong feelings with this one, lol. Like visceral strong feelings and it took me a couple days to write this one out. The writing is fantastic and it's not stop action and hot smexy times from page one. Tons of things going on. Pieces moving on the board for overarching storylines. I absolutely love the complex world Maggie Cole is building. The relationship between Gianni and Cara is super hot. They obviously have tons of chemistry and a lifetime of history between them and Maggie does a fantastic job of writing that into the story. Gianni basically spends the whole book trying to prove to her he's a changed man. Grand gestures ✅ . (Slight) groveling ✅ . Lots of super super hot smexy ✅ . I just couldn't with Gianni, though. I think it was specifically, his desire now that they're in their 40s ... to settle down and pop babies out that pushed me to the "I would never forgive this man" category, lol. Like she hasn't had kids this entire time because of him and now he wants her to start popping them out. That was just too much for me and quite frankly, I would have washed my hands of him, but I'm really glad I read the book as part of the series and I actually really enjoyed it overall... if that makes sense 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Immoral is the second book in the Mafia Wars New York series by Maggie Cole. The books are interconnected standalones and sometimes run in parallel, but best enjoyed when read in series order. They are told in first person, from dual perspective.

Well it was Gianni & Cara’s turn and wow their love story again was from when they were kids and like his twin Gianni just messed up with Cara and treated her like she was expendable.
I loved Cara standing her ground and I have to admit Gianni was never going to stop pursuing her and when they actually got together and she let her guard down they were amazing together and again loads of steamy sex scenes.
I did however want to slap Cara when she ran without bodyguards, I mean regardless of the situation Gianni had warned her multiple times never to be without a bodyguard and she had been attacked several times before this…. Stupid woman knew better.
However I am loving this series and all the couples so far have worked so let’s see how silly Massimo really is next.

Immoral is book two in the Mafia Wars: New York Saga and continues on with Cara and Gianni. This series is a dark romance series with triggers, I recommend all readers make note before reading.

Cara and Gianni have been together off and on for almost two decades, but Gianni has never had it in him to settle down. Finally, Cara breaks and leaves. Thinking she is moving on to better things, Cara finds herself instead, needing rescue and Gianni is the one to do it.

Finding Cara up for sale at an auction has Gianni’s protective instincts thriving. After he gets her back, he is determined to keep her, this leads Gianni to forcing Cara into a marriage that she fully knows he doesn’t want. Like always though, what Gianni wants; Gianni gets and what he wants for keeps now is Cara.

The title does not give this book justice, its so much more than simply immoral. Seductive is a word best described for Gianni’s and Cara’s relationship, but somehow that works for their characters. I definitely liked this book a little more than the first in the series, maybe more depth to it, but both books were nonetheless good reads. Cole has a way of infusing her books with turmoil and emotions that linger after they are finished. Gianni and Cara form a happy union and that is all we can hope for at the end of any book.

This story of Gianni and Cara is fast paced with lots of excitement. Gianni saves Cara and claims she is the love of his life. He hurt her in the past but opens up to her so she can see he has changed. The characters are great and some old friends appear.

How can you not love this book? This book and most of Maggie Cole books are so exciting, loving, possible and alpha, I just can’t get enough. Great job Maggie.

I wanted to like it. I loved the first book in the series and was all set to enjoy this one too. Unfortunately, I found neither Cara nor Dante likeable. And I don’t know why, but the propensity for Dante to ‘sniff’ became so prevalent (46 times. Seriously, I did a search because it was the go to action every time Dante didn’t like something) that I couldn’t stay in the story it started annoying me so much. As did the fact that he had to count silently in his head every time he had to control his actions, or whatever. All the freaking time. It wasn’t a cute foible. It was annoying because it happened so frequently. The plot line was good, which is why I gave it three stars, but the execution didn’t work for me, sadly.
