A good read with steamy scenes action and romance. Personally I would have liked to see more of the ex boyfriend and sister.. Really put Charlotte through the wringer. There was also a chance to stir things up at work that wasn't taken. But all in all a good story.

Before I start to review this I need to say that I am aware I am rubbish at actually writing a decent review so I apologise to Ms James if this really doesn’t do this book justice.

This book, this story about Fraser and Charlotte was genuinely not what I expected. Even though I have read books from Ms James in the past for some reason I was expecting a light hearted romcom sort of tale. Wrong!
What I got was a story that took me away from life. A story that had my heart melting as I giggled, swooned and sobbed my blooming heart out. Not once but twice this story had me ugly crying because of the way the emotion was put down on the page. Hell it even had me crying with pure unadulterated joy.

Fraser is dreamy but he’s also as hard as iron and as soft as a teddy bear. Quite the combination I know but honestly he is everything that a leading man should be. Don’t get me wrong I wanted to slap him around the head a couple of times because of things he did in the story, trust me he would have deserved it, but those things were needed to move the story in the direction it needed to go.

Charlotte, I love her so flipping much. She’s everything, more so than Fraser. She is the light that makes the world brighter. She is smart, sassy, and seriously sweet. Watching her grow throughout this story was an absolute pleasure.

I honestly can’t find the words to give this romantic, thrilling, sexy, delightful story the justice it deserves but I will say this, I read a lot, an awful lot of books but this one blew my mind completely. For me, this is the book of the year (yes I’m aware it’s only January but 🤷🏻‍♀️), hell it’s the book of the decade because quite frankly I have not read a book that pulled the emotions from me like this one did in a long time.

Well done Ms James, well done.

Firstly, I loved Charlotte. She blooms, grows and becomes stronger as the story progresses. She's a fantastic heroine and I admired her strength and determination to follow her own path in life. Her refusal to 'fit in' with her family and bow down to the way they think she should live her life, only makes me love her more.

Then there's Fraser. What's not to love about him? He's got it all going on and I imagine a man with viking type features, a gentle giant but a protector by nature. He has good family values and will do anything to make sure justice is done. Oh, and he's sexy as hell.

This story also include and great selection of characters which only adds to the drama, intrigue and angst of the story line. One of my favourites is Charlottes Dad who comes into his own. His character also takes a different turn and he wasn't the man I imagined him to be in the end - in a positive way that is.

Lastly, the story. It's so unusual, fresh and different, but is also a hot topic at the moment - especially in the UK. It was good to see this sensitive subject matter being handled so delicately, yet highlighting a real issue when it comes to women and safety.
I had no idea where it would end up, but I loved following the journey and the second Epilogue was such a lovely touch.

I'd highly recommend this wonderful story to anyone who loves a little intrigue with their romance.

4.5 stars. The beginning reeled me in right away seeing how Fraser and Charlotte have this natural, easy way of interacting despite being strangers. Fraser has a purpose and Charlotte is his ticket, unbeknownst to her. What I thought would be a fun, somewhat light-hearted rom com type of vibe was actually a more gritty and intense story that I got so much more out of. Charlotte agrees to let Fraser be her plus one to her sister’s wedding, given that it is a very fancy and posh event thrown by her uber wealthy parents. Charlotte has made it her purpose in life to not live lavishly and facetiously like they do. She rebels by doing the opposite, being level headed and grounded with a compassionate demeanor despite viewing love as a simple business transaction. While she guards her heart, there is romantic waiting to be wooed, hidden underneath. Fraser isn’t the commitment type, but he respects and admires Charlotte for so many reasons, aside from being enchanted by her beauty and personality. I loved that Fraser was always maintaining the boundary with Charlotte, never pushing her unless she pushed first, but yet he was still very male and in charge in his own way. Amidst the romance is a little bit of suspense and mystery with some witty dialogue. The writing is engaging and there are several themes that the author infuses as take home messages, which are pro-feminine, but also supportive. Fraser may straddle the morally grey line, but no one does the job better of loving and protecting Charlotte than he does - that last part of the epilogue really cemented it.

If you thought the cover was sexy, then you won’t be surprised how hot hot hot the book is.

When I first saw the title, I thought this was going to be a sweet and funny read. I was so wrong.

Charlotte and Fraser’s relationship starts as a “job”. There is a reason why he needs to be Charlotte’s date on her sister’s wedding and we soon find out he has good reasons to lie to her and use her.
Soon, he tells her the truth and it breaks her in every way. She has never believed in love and after what Fraser has done to her, she is 100% sure that Prince Charming doesn’t exist and neither does love in her world.

When she finds out that her man is in danger though, everything changes.
She realises that he had good intentions by lying to her and all he wanted to do was protecting her, his mum and every single woman who needed him and his team.

I loved how strong Charlotte was. Closing the door on the man she knew she was in love with must have been so hard. Still, she did it because of what she believed in.

It took 18 months for Vicki to write and finish this book. But I can tell you, it was worth the wait! This is definitely one of her best books she has ever written.

And that epilogue? You will need tissues. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Absolutely enjoyed Charlotte and Fraser’s story. From totally different backgrounds, hers privileged and his not. Charlotte however does not live the same life as her family. She’s down to earth and loves her work in a care home. Fraser is a protector and is on a mission for revenge. Their paths meet at a bus stop and there is an instant connection, but was this meeting fate or a set up? Charlotte is on her way to her sisters wedding and her plus one has let her down. Can Fraser take his place? All will be revealed once you read the book!

I was obsessed with Fraser and Charlotte's story - the little bubble they created for themselves and the drama floating around them.

I adore Charlotte's view on life and her tenacity and strength to live on her own terms despite pressure from her family.

Fraser was just EVERYTHING!!! His calm demeanour, his passion and his fight make him an ultimate book boyfriend - and the tattoos, beard and muscles definitely help the image!

With twists, turns and one AMAZING epilogue, this story is an absolute joy and must-read of 2022!
