Excellent prespective and research

The book is well researched buy had one MAJOR fault. The chronology seems to suggest Pulwama attack happened after revocation of article 370, Which is, of course, wrong. The book certainly has many many areas of excellence. While the interviews and research on ISI side are extensive, the same cannot be said for RAW. As usual the stench of left winged anti Right thought seeps through the writing. One misses more perspective of the IPKF Op Pawan from RAW insiders. Also indian readers will find the authors repeated peddling of ISI version that they too are a victim rather laughable. But overall , this is a good read

With the amount of access the authors had, a far detailed account was expected. ISI’s stories are not challenged and accepted as truth.
Minuscule to non existent threat of saffron terror is equated to Islamic terror, here propaganda and ideology takes preference over facts.
India is portrayed of having done false flag ops and allowed terrorist attacks like Pulwama, but no evidence is given.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, there is none here
The authors seem to be like western intel agencies and govts fooled by Abpara.

this book is ISI version of events and tries to create impression that all terrorism acts in india parliament, 26/11,pullmana , and all others were done by indian intelligence agency. it also sells the version that Pakistan does not support terrorism. Now I understand how Pakistan is able to fool USA for so long. Author like this are part of ISI PR machine.which can be fooled easily by selected twisting of information.

just finished reading "Spy Stories by Adrian Levy & Cathy Clark"..& I have to say it was awful..incredibly one-sided..seems like all their info about india was sourced from barkha dutt & sardesai...Apparently a hindu saint instigated the 2002 riots & burwan wani was the hope of kashmir...seriously I think the authors were treated badly by the indian intelligence agencies or something....all they have tried to promote (and endorsed) is the ISI's point of view...next book by them could absolve pakistan of aiding the taliban in Afghanistan...Truly an abysmal read and I regret spending money on this pile of crap...

Although the book is written very well that how both agencies work but it try to represent R.A.W and I.B in a badlight for example: ISI funding terrorist group in kashmir but also trying for peace at the same time RAW and IB manuplating the terror groups for more attacks kind of white washing the pakistani establishment and blaming most of the things to india.

this books could be the best ISI propaganda material currently available on amazon,the entire book seems to conjured up by either indian wokoharam or ISI,i hv never read too many conspiracy theory in one book,it's shud be part of RAW truthers movement

Extremely biased and one sided narrative

The book covers the spy wars between India and Pakistan. It starts on an interesting note, but after going through 25% of the book, the author's biasedness and hate for India comes out.
The book states that all the major Al-Qaeda terrorists were caught in Pakistan, but still give benefit of doubt to all the state agencies. According to them, Pakistan did not play any role in Parliament attack or 26/11. Infact, the author seemed to support the conspiracies of Saffron terror, Hemant Karkare link etc.
I lost it when the author mentioned that Kashmiri students in colleges all over India were evicted, beaten and intimidated. A one-off instance is mentioned as if all Indians started beating Kashmiris.
While I acknowledge we cannot fully trust any Government, but the author keeps on showing his bias again and again through these similar instances, like devoting a couple of pages on Afzal Guru and claiming Indian govt framed him but at the same time Pakistan wanting to avenge Afzal Guru. If Pakistan had nothing to do with Afzal Guru, why will it want to avenge him?
These inconsistencies are seen throughout the book.

The funny part was the author thinks that the terror attack in Hyderabad (allegedly by Abhinav Bharat) is an attack on the secularity of India, but hundreds of attack by terrorists in the name of Islam does not impact the secularity of the nation.

The book talks about Ajit Doval and some of his famous stories which most of the people have read like how he spent 7 years undercover in Pakistan, etc. This book tries to discredit that as well. I don't say those stories are true, but the funny part is that the content of this book has actually nothing to do with those stories. But unnecessarily talks about these things. Again the case of biasedness where the author could not stop himself from showing his Woke side.

Forgot to mention one very interesting aspect. When the author talked about Narendra Modi, he mentioned him as unit chief for BJP in Surat in 1992 and 1994 riots. Even though it was Congress govt in power, it tried to project that the riots were done by him. It also says Modi got clean chit for Gujarat riots in 2019, implying it happened because Modi is in power. The author chose the lines selectively to choose his agenda.

The book combines Strategic and Tactical history of both R&AW and ISI's operations. Try coupling it with Musharraf's In the Line Of Fire, Rahul Pandita's The Lover Boy Of Bahawalpur and books such as Directorate S, The Exile, The Meadow by the same authors would give you a much much deeper understanding into a lot of names and events that is mentioned within the course of the book. One factual error worth noting was that Adil Ahmed Dar was not riding a Mahindra Scorpio but a Maruti Eco. Other than that the book remains one of those few books which you will go back to again and again to look for references when a name pops up in the media in the near future from the world of espionage.
