2,0 sur 5 étoiles Okay but the 'cabinet doesn't vote for the PM' and other distractions...

Okay read but if you base a story in an iconic city or country, you have to get your cultural references right! I really hate being picky and have huge respect for authors because it isn't something I could do - at all - but I live in the UK (not a native though) and the miss on the cultural references got distracting... and there were lots! Ministers aren't appointed here, they have to be sitting MPs of the governing party (or Lords but that is rarer). The PM isn't voted for by the cabinet (who don't have a boardroom!) - the PM is the leader of the winning political party and is elected by that party's membership. The London police don't have a headquarters, or at least they do but it's Scotland Yard. And flats not apartments, floors not levels. More but you get the drift... Also a Spanish man becoming PM? Top UK law firm with 30 staff?? Silly things but some/most could have been sorted with some pretty easy research. I know it is being picky but as I say, you have a fictional city you make it up as you go along. A real city as iconic as London in a country as well know as the UK, you just can't get away with it. And it is a shame because it does detract - I'd loose my flow of the story because I'd be 'what?' and have to go back and reread.
I think a lot of the typos mentioned in some other reviews have largely been fixed - some but I might have been distracted (see above).
Not my favourite of this author. Other elements I didn't like. Maybe a bit thin versus others. But each to their own!

I can't say at this point anything positive. I'm being generous with 2 stars because I loved all TL Swans early books but the last few... Well not for me. Too much of a rollercoaster and not in a good way. I might come back one day and finish.

I ordered Mr Garcia with the same trepidation I order all of T.L Swan's books with mainly because I cannot figure this author out. It seems like every other book is written by a different author. One version of this author writes books with deeply thought out, complicated, fascinating lead characters, and "cannot put it down" storylines. The other version of this author writes sloppy, immature, unbelievable trope that I would be better off using for bonfire kindling than wasting a few hours reading. Unfortunately, Mr Garcia falls into the latter category. Without giving away the story...even though I have a vivid imagination, I was unable to suspend my belief far enough to to buy that the future PM of England would act the way that Sebastian does whenever he gets into an argument with April (which is a lot). Nor can I believe that legal counsel to a man of such importance would behave the way she does. Is it supposed to be romantic when April brings up a concern to have Sebastian stomp out of the room, slam doors, and repeatedly tell her that he can't take any of her *@*!. That is literally repeated in every other scene these two are in. It's tiresome, immature, and only served to amp up my dislike for both characters. I could not have cared less if they ended up with one another at the end of the book, so I didn't bother finishing the last few chapters. I read that far because I couldn't believe how bad it was and kept hoping it would improve. It didn't. I was pretty disappointed overall in this effort from T L Swan because I know he/she can do better. I would rather he/she wrote less and focused on fleshing out her characters and storyline more, than churning out books just for the sake of it. This felt like a book that was put out on a deadline.

I absolutely love this author, I have read all her books, so was very excited to see this book get released as we are once again in lockdown. It was really disappointing for me as it definitely was no where near as good as her others.

He is an arrogant self entitled b**tard that does not understand the world NO.
She is a spineless lawyer who doesn't know what sexual harassment means.
The story is not complete rubbish, considering I've read 1/3 of it.

I loved Dr. Stanton and Find Me, Alistair. But ever since then, the author’s books have just gone downhill. I couldn’t find a redeeming quality for Sebastian or April. The constant back and forth: “I don’t want a relationship with you, but please live in my home and come away with me to a wedding to meet my friends.” That makes literally no sense. And for the love of all that is holy get a proofreader. There were so many easily fixed grammatical and mechanical errors that were distracting.

2,0 sur 5 étoiles Mean hero
Commenté aux États-Unis le 3 juin 2021
Achat vérifié
The best thing about this book is the cover. I’m not sure how to review this book. It could have been good had the hero not been such a butt. He was so awful at her at times. I lost count how many times he calls her a whore or treats her like one. He belongs to a club where you pay for high end prostitutes. She tries to work there one night just to see what it’s like, but not intending to sleep with anyone. His nephew has a crush on her and introduces her to his uncle/dad as his girlfriend. The hero starts calling her a whore and outs her. Not only to his nephew but later to his friends. First of all that’s against the club rules. Next all he had to do was tell the nephew that they were sleeping together. He did not have to tell about the prostitution. The nephew goes back and tells everyone at their college and the family.
So she completely humiliated. I don’t know what to think about a hero who can’t get a hard on unless he’s with a prostitute. I mean wth?!?! This guy need therapy. I can’t remember the exact words but the heroine is right when she calls him a sleazy, filthy, politician. Why not just have him into bdsm? Instead he comes off sleazy. Especially since he doesn’t see a problem with him doing it himself, but is so disrespectful toward prostitution.
I kept hoping that he would redeem himself. Just when I would think that he was turning into less of a jack____, he would turn in to a jerk again. If she questioned him he would be a butt. He would ignore her all day, flirt with other women and then go and have sex with the heroine but always left before she woke up so he didn’t have to deal with her. He turned all arguments around so he could become the victim. Nope this author is not for me. After reading the other two book reviews, I see that this is her style of hero. If I don’t like the two main characters, I can’t like the book. I will say I liked how most of the time that the heroine would hold her own with him. I like that she wasn’t afraid to let the cuss words fly at him. Just hated he always try to turn it around and made her feel sorry for him. I loved her relationship with Jeormey.

Read with KU subscription.

This book was a mess. This author’s books are hit or miss with me anyway, but this might have been the worst I’ve read. (I have not read the Stanton series. Maybe Dr. Stanton, but nothing after that.) What really gripes me about it is that ever since the first book where we meet the three friends I have waited impatiently for Sebastian‘s story. I don’t know why he was the one that interested me the most, as they are all hilarious whenever they get together, easily the best part of the books, but he’s the one that drew my interest.

He gets a worthy FMC in April, whom I loved in places because she could really read him his rights sometimes. But just when I was like “take him down, girl“ she would cave and let him have what he wanted. Sometimes he said the meanest things to her. Now, I know in other books people have complained about the MMC‘s being mean and saying horrible things to the FMCs, but I think his were more hurtful because they were things that you can imagine someone saying to another person in real life (a BIG kudo the author for that). He keeps shouting at her and dismissing her because of her “dramatic“ outbursts. He often yells at her to go home. So I wanted to punch his throat a couple of times and I wanted her to ducking go home.

Ultimately, this book’s plot was dragged down by the typical back-and-forth between the lead characters not communicating, but it’s risky doing that in a book this long. The reader quickly becomes tired of that. I found myself skipping large sections to get to places where I thought the plot was moving ahead and to get to the end. Then afterwords when I was curious about something I would do a search on the word and find it and read it.

A couple of other things that I thought harmed the story were his sudden sexual proclivities and that when the author did show his emotional insecurities, it was really kind of icky. I’m not saying that the darkness in his sexual desires is wrong, especially since the FMC shares them, but we go from him being dark and bossy in the bedroom to suddenly having a cupboard full of toys, which he doesn’t end up using. The emotional insecurities are fine to bring up, but several times he breaks down like a little boy and it felt like she was always interrupting her valid moment of anger to comfort him. It just felt weird, and because I was already mad at how Sebastian was being portrayed, it annoyed me to no end.

Honestly, I know it’s the author’s character to write and she should know him better than I do, but I feel like she just wanted to make a darker story with more angst (although her books already have a lot of angst in them) and didn’t really look back at how she had portrayed Sebastian to begin with. Or it could be that I misread him the whole time.

As disappointed as I was in this book it won’t cause me not to read her others, except those that I chose not to because of the blurb and some reviews. I liked The Takeover and The Stopover, and I’m looking forward to Casanova. It’s obvious she puts a lot of effort and work into her books, because they are so (maybe overly) long, but I am with some of the other reviewers that she really needs a better proofreader and beta reader.

2,0 sur 5 étoiles Least favorite so far

I had a different vision of Seb in my mind. In the other Mr. Series he just seemed loving with Bree and Lottie. He was even swoony with his exes sister at one point. This book tries to paint him with 50 shades of the devil. There were so many twist and turns to this book. I completely forgot about Brandon!!! So many story lines that I was actually forgetting them!!! Also, the terms used in this book are repeated so much through this book and the series. Meh. Because I know the books get SO much better, I am just caulking this up to my least favorite.

2,0 sur 5 étoiles TL Swan is usually my favorite romance author but...

this one is not up to her usual standard. One thing that I like about this author is that usually miscommunications and fights are resolved in a way that brings the couples closer and adequately address grievances on both sides. I did not find this to be the case this time. The book had ALOT of conflict between the leads. While I felt like it was in character for both, the reconciliation was extremely unsatisfying for me. There were good parts but there was something lacking here.
**Spoilers and mentions of sexual assault**
I thought the sexual assault (while eventually proven to not have happened) was handled incredibly poorly. I almost gave this book one star because of it. The female mc was only worried about the potential infidelity and the resulting pregnancy. The eventual apology was grossly inadequate. Like I don't even know what to say. It was awful.
I also found myself wanting more from the male lead. I wanted him to understand that when it came out that she was a prostitute she had to transfer schools to a less prestigious program, that what happened wasn't her fault and disproportionately affected her. I wanted him to come to understand the hypocrisy of him judging her for being a prostitute while having paid for her service.
Finally, the author introduced background information that I wanted to know more about, although nothing that would have dropped a star from the rating. The fmc had a ex-husband and family back in the states that I wanted learn more about and get some reaction from regarding her new husband. She made friends with a girl she a previously hated but for having such a dynamic relationship there is very little page time. She has three different best friends though out, two of which were underdeveloped. I have literally never said this about a romance book in my life, but maybe this should have been expanded to two books. Ultimately for me things that I thought would bring satisfaction were left hanging through out and the emotional impact that I look forward to from TL Swan just wasn't there.
