good tale

I got this novel as i is a topic i am interested in and after reading other reviews went for it.
Does anyone talk normally in the USA, there are loads or repetitious quotes of "she growled", "sneered", "snarled". another annoying point mothers become the "older woman" or girls become the "older Girls" once or twice would be okay but this is said far too many times. something I learned as a youngster my parents are older than me.
Other than these faults overall the story line was not bad, with a good ending.
The mother and brother of the main character was very understanding and encouraged the transformation, I am not sure which hospital i would have ended up in or on what ward, I certainly would not know what year it was if I had suddenly wanted to become a transgender.

The depth of involvement, of details, of plot and story makes it very hard to put this book down. As any good book should do, you don't read - you become a part of the flow of the story, as if you are in the story.
Exceedingly well thought out and put together, a great book by a very talented Author thank you

Well told tale. Alexis is an engaging character,and the plot reasonably credible. Sadly, things don't always work out as well in real life. I hope Marie writes more.

Die Story ist sehr dicht gepackt mit vielen einzelnen Geschehnissen, die eigentlich gar nicht einer Person allein passieren können.
Dennoch winkt, lacht und fiebert mit A.J. mit, wenn alles passiert, bis zum bitteren Schlusskapitel und letztendlich dem guten Ende.

Great story, slightly marred by format and writing style

The story is fantastic. The ending is great and had my crying my eyes out. There is plenty of drama throughout the story. Unlike many books in this category, the problems are not easily overcome and don't always have a happy ending. The story easily deserves 5 stars. It does lose at least one star though. The first most noticeable problem is the format. It is aligned centered on the page instead of to the left like normal. The problem with that is it's harder to follow. Dialog is especially bad as it's harder to tell when someone's lines end and another's begin. There is another thing that really bugged me, but may not be as big a deal to others. Instead of saying "she said" or "Keria grumbled". The author will way too often say "the older woman said" or "the younger girl grumbled" or "the colored footballer said" First it's just more cumbersome to read. And many times it's in a group of people all about the same age when she uses "the older girl said". It took until near the end of the book for me to confirm they were all in the same grade. Also theauthor doesn't seem to know what the words grumbled and growled mean because half the time it seemed to be used inappropriately. It is also clear the author is likely British or at least not American. She mostly does a good job of writing in normal American English but the biggest thing I noticed was "she looked round at me" instead of over at me. Not a big deal though. Also she clearly has no idea football and especially high school works. The time of year it's played on strategies used are just wrong. But still not really a big deal as that was a small part of the book.
Overall great story, just too bad the format and some of the style choices used in writing took it down a peg.

This story was SO good! I can’t begin to tell you how emotionally invested I became in Alex. Much of the story brought tears.

The writing, however, jarred me out of the story quite a bit. This is only because Marie King is obviously British, and used a lot of British slang in her writing of a story that seems to be set in the United States. As I am an American reader, I picked up on it right away. Words, like “pitch”, when describing a “football field”, for instance, need to be replaced with their proper American linguistic counterparts. To clean up those inconsistencies, the book could use a thorough going through by an American editor.

But, yeah, the story was awesome!

Alex was a kid who was barely 15 years old, a greeky nerdy kid barely 5' 1" or 5' 2" in height, barely 120 pounds. Who was androgynous looking kid, his brother was the opposite 6' 2" or 6' 3" athletic. The only thing was there interested is cars. But one day a brunch of cheerleaders, needed, help to pass with B or better. Thou his looks and size and unisex style of clothes, makes look girlish. So they needed some help, And Alex was chosen. A sorta bet was made, if he got them, a B he get the money plus twice as much. But if they got all A's , he still got the money, plus he gets a make over as a girl.
What happens next would change either way. ALEX life in ways, alex life change, so another path shown, is it easy , is the path straight. Is it easy. Because a cheerleader had a sixth sense of ALEX.

Danger, this Novel is an emotional roller coaster. Loved the story but had a few issues. Location is one and speech as some terms seemed British at times. Then some editing issues cropped up. The plot was wicked to the end and yes I cried over many areas of the book. The ending also made me cry. Good job Marie it's good to see real writing is alive
