I really appreciate that these 2 authors are authority figures on OCD.
They both have had their own personal battles with OCD which can be very comforting. I found some sections particularly vulnerable which made it super relatable. They cover a gamut of OCD types in the book and do not shy away from even the more taboo ones. Bravo.
But the grammar in the writing is just down right infuriating. I find myself having to re-read sentences to gnaw on the presented topics. I would like to extend grace to the authors because I do realize OCD has so many layers to it. And intrusive thoughts/ruminations are often LIKE run-on sentences, but come on. Every few paragraphs while the authors explain a tip they would add (you can refer this to chapter 2) (chapter 4), etc. A more efficient way to go about your references would be just that, a back section for what else? Your references.
I'd really love for the authors to help their readers find solace in their on going battle with OCD by simply dumbing down the concepts and language. As a college grad that reads pretty regularly, I just had a really hard time. So I cannot imagine the challenge for others.
OCD sufferers often times exhibit tendencies in their childhood, adolescence, etc. So wouldn't the authors want to somewhat try to bridge the gap for their audience's sake? If not, who is this book for? Your peers or the Jane/John Does of the wold? More visual illustrations, charts, etc. would be welcomed, breaking up concepts into more simplistic terms.
As a note, it was highlighted in several reviews that the authors fused their humor into this book. But to be frank, I find it more comical that their editors clearly took a backseat. I hope to find their workbook to be a more functional addition to my journey. I will be referring to some exercises and concepts I learned in thearpy.
