Well crap! That was emotional. Very cleverly written with the two stories running along together. I much preferred Scarletts story and wish I could read more. I'm still not sure what to make of that big twist there at the end! Just wow!
I’m all cried out. Rebecca Yarros shook me with that twist I didn’t see coming. Wow. It was amazing and only made me appreciate the story even more. The two storylines were well integrated so it worked as one. I have to say I enjoyed the Past story a little more than the present one. The past took place during the war in forties and written with a haunting realism and authenticity that it just hit me harder. Georgia’s great grandmother Scarlett and her sister Constance were my favorites along with Jameson. What an epic story and love. The present one with Georgia was great too with her slowly opening up to Noah who’s going to finish Scarlett’s book.
The Things We Leave Unfinished oozes with love and I felt it. In the words and the overall story.
I finished this last night and have wavered about my rating since. On the one hand, there is no doubt this author can write, and is certainly capable of making you feel her characters thoughts and emotions. For that, she gets 5 stars. Additionally, it was very unique to get a love story within a love story. I loved reading about Georgia's great gran's love story, (Scarlet and Jameson). On the other hand, despite the fact that Georgia and Noah's love story was supposed to be epic, I didn't feel it. We were told they spent time together, and we were privy to Noah's feelings for Georgia, but we didn't get to actually spend time with them, see Noah win Georgia over, conquer her trust issues and ultimately, watch them fall in love. Scarlet and Jameson's love story was presented in the forms of a manuscript and reading old love letter from WWII, but Noah and Georgia's were in present time and I wanted to spend just as much time with them, in the present. That said, I still enjoyed it and am not likely to forget it anytime soon.
This was a story within a story, following the life of Scarlett, a romance author who had survived tragedy during the war and over her life, and her great granddaughter Georgia. The parallel stories were well written and I really enjoyed the book, which had everything from joy, immense sorrow, tension, passion and once in a lifetime love.
