@tessabaileyisanauthor was a new to me author last year... thanks to bookstagram! Our TBRs just seem to get bigger and bigger the more we get to know you guys. I was really looking forward to this after loving Tessa’s Hot and Hammered series.

The story follows “it” girl influencer Piper on her journey back to her parent’s seaside home town where she meets the rugged sea captain Brendan.

At first I found it really difficult to get on with Piper I actually didn’t like her much at all. She acted spoiled and as if everything and everyone was beneath her i.e. the law?! Eventually though I started to warm to her throughout what became her redemption story and I loved the arc her character took to find who she truly is and what really matters to her

The story is told in a dual POV and I really enjoyed this dynamic between Piper and Brendan. I felt like Brendan almost didn’t know what to do with her but in the end his fast and true nature tamed her. Both characters are polar opposites so if you love the enemies to romance trope you’ll enjoy this!

This a beautiful story very steamy! Loved every minute! Could’ve done without the 3rd act misunderstanding trope (this trope needs to die a death please god is there a petition?)
Highly recommend

Loved the plot! The grumpy sunshine trope, enemies to lovers, small town!!! I struggled at the start with it being third person (not a huge fan) but Tessa Bailey won me over with the story and plot and simply her writing! So engaging and fun

I tend to like Tessa's books. This one had all the great emotional cues plus the unnecessary drama plus the predictable plot. But I liked it. I'm way more into the second storyline and although I was planning on taking a break after this book, I now have to read the second book - thanks Tessa Bailey lol

It was one of the best books I’ve read this year. The only thing I’m a little critical about is the conflict at the end before the HEA. It felt a little forced - like they just needed something so the characters could struggle and overcome. It wasn’t something you got really emotionally invested in. But still a wonderful, funny and heartwarming book.

It Happened One Summer is just not the story of a fashionista and influencer Piper falling in love with a sea captain Brendan Taggart but about so many more things like finding yourself, realizing your worth, moving on, adapting yourself for the love in your life, getting on your feet, learning about responsibilities, feeling at home and loving yourself while loving your partner.

They say love makes you do crazy things, I could see Brendan falling head over heels for Piper not because she is beautiful but because of her innocence, the way she used to look at him and made him feel things he never felt before and want to do things he never felt like doing before. She made him step out of his comfort zone and yet made him feel comfortable. I saw Piper falling for Brendan while finding herself in him, with him, being away from home yet at home with him.

The characters and story are so well thought and written that it pulls you in and makes you experience each scene from within the world of this book.

My favourite thing about the book is how Piper calls Brendan's hug her recharge station ❤️.

I really loved reading the book. I laughed, cried, smiled my way through the moments of comfort the book provided me. The book is now added to my comfort reads.

It Happened One Summer was a light hearted and entertaining read. Piper presents as very shallow & superficial in the beginning, but her personality really starts to shine in Westport. Who would have thought her perfect match would be a rather grumpy (at times) and very no nonsense fisherman, the complete opposite to Piper. Brendan was so persistent and so very sweet with Piper, understanding and very patient with the doubts she had about herself.

Piper's relationship with Hannah is her only real, genuine friendship, something she soon realises once she's away from her previously more glamorous lifestyle. Hannah is so low key in comparison to her sister, she's the voice of reason between the 2 sisters, and it's going to be so entertaining when she falls for Fox in the next book in this series.

This is yet another "𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘥𝘰 𝘪𝘵" read for me and I am finding that I may need to listen to my fellow booksta fam more often. 😂

Initially, Piper gave off very stereotypical airhead influencer vibes - ditzy, beautiful, rich, eccentric, and famous for being famous. I remember thinking, oh no… I’m not going to be able to stand this character. 🙈

Once in Westport, and no longer surrounded by the glitz and glamour of Hollywood or the misogynistic men in her life, Piper lets her guard down and we come to see she is bright, funny, passionate, and severely misunderstood. It was refreshing to experience Piper find her voice and really come into her own.

It was about midway through when I really began to ship Captain Taggart and Piper (HA! Ship – very punny). That hospital room scene though… 🌶️🌶️🌶️ woooooof, I was not ready for that level of spice!!

I really loved the storyline of the sisters reconnecting with their roots and reigniting the legacy of the father they lost at a young age.

The sibling relationship between Piper and Hannah is one of my fav aspects of this book. They are polar opposites, but love and respect each other for exactly who they are. Hannah is such an old soul and played the perfect supporting character, however, I am looking forward to reading more from Hannah’s POV in Tessa’s follow-up novel, Hook, Line and Sinker

Although I had my own views on the book, the product was of good quality and almost no defects, just minor defects on two pages (could just be the case with my copy) almost unnoticeable but otherwise amazing!!!
