J'ai passé un bon moment à lire ce livre. Il rentre sans problème dans la catégorie des romcom d'amour classique, une jeune femme indépendante qui tombe amoureuse du meilleur ami de son frère, un ancien joueur de baseball pro, casanova, qu'elle va aidé à se remettre sur pied. Malgré des décisions parfois bizarre (pourquoi avoir besoin de faire semblant de sortir avec un homme pour être prise au sérieux ?) l'histoire est agréable à lire, simple et pas prise de tête

I really liked the characters, they were strong and likeable, I never had to be too angry at them for their dumb decisions like what happens so often when I read romance. The hot scenes were hothothot and the cute scenes funny and soft.

Fix Her Up est le premier livre que je lis de Tessa Bailey. Ne connaissant pas du tout cette auteure, j'ai d'abord été attirée par la couverture (j'adore le violet !). En découvrant le synopsis, je me suis dit qu'il fallait absolument que je fasse connaissance avec Georgie, j'avais le sentiment qu'elle me plairait...

Et bien mon intuition a été bonne ! Georgie est un personnage qui vous fera sourire. Cette boule d'énergie est un rayon de soleil dans ce roman, mais surtout dans la vie de Travis et de ses amis/famille.

Ces deux-là se connaissent depuis un moment, mais Georgie a toujours laissé son crush de côté. Le retour de Travis en ville à la suite de la fin de sa carrière en MLB (baseball) l'a un peu bousculée, et elle a décidé de prendre sa vie en main pour de bon.

Ce livre dégage une "positive attitude" qui vous remonte le moral en un rien de temps. Attention, tout n'est pas tout rose, mais la volonté de ce petit bout de femme est contagieuse et contamine tous les personnages du roman. J'ai vraiment passé un super moment avec ce livre, et j'ai trouvé cette lecture parfaite pour mes vacances.

En bref, une lecture "feel good" qui vous mettra le sourire aux lèvres. Georgie est un personnage attachant, drôle, jovial, l'héroïne parfaite pour cette comédie romantique. Si vous cherchez une lecture légère, avec une pointe de "girl power" et un héros sexy et attachant, alors foncez !

Lots of promise but didn't deliver - too much going on

The plot line in one line: Professional clown Georgie gets together with her brother’s down-beaten best friend Travis after he’s returns to town, having been dropped from professional baseball.

The good and the bad: My biggest disappointment with this book was Travis should have been the person who understood Georgie’s problems and treated her differently, but he didn’t. Georgie is treated like a child by her family – she’s not taken seriously. Travis treats her just the same apart from one scene where he sticks up for her to her family.

You’d think she was sixteen and he twice her age. He calls her “girl” and “baby girl” right to the end of the book; he repeatedly talks about how he won’t be able to look her brother or father in the eye, as if she’s their property. Oh yeah, and to actually catch Travis’ eye, 23-year-old Georgie has to stop dressing how she likes (in slouchy second-hand clothes) and transform into a “woman” (not that we see that word) by wearing expensive underwear and revealing dresses. Travis acts like a Neanderthal/man-child. I didn’t find his behaviour attractive.

My second issue was that the book tried to encompass too many tropes at once. I enjoy a good trope, but it all gets a bit confusing and waters down the romance when there’s a virgin, a fake relationship, a forbidden relationship and more besides. I wish Tessa Bailey had spent less time on these various story lines and more time on making Georgie and Travis’s emotional connection feel deep and real.

This lack of emotional connection detracted from what were otherwise very steamy, man-in-charge sex scenes. Travis’ patronising manner toward Georgie throughout the book made his bossiness in bed (and other places) feel like an extension of his treating her like a child rather than hot dom behaviour. Otherwise, ooh it would have been so, SO good, as it usually is with Bailey.

My last criticism is that I found the Just Us League (women’s club) side plot a boring and unbelievable, so ended up skimming these sections.

Plot lines and character flaws aside, the book was otherwise well written and for the most-part maintained my interest. I think for some people it will be “enough” but I just read Bailey’s It Happened One Summer, which was ace, so I expected more of the same brilliance.

Fix her up is the first book in the Hot & Hammered series by Tessa Bailey. This is my first read from Tessa, I had seen a friend on Instagram recommend it and decided it sounded right up my street. I was excited to get into a new book by a new author.

Georgie is an actual clown for children’s birthday parties. She is really good at it and wants to be taken more seriously as a business woman. As the baby of her very well known family she feels no one takes her series.

“Why do women believe they need an occasion to dress up? Dress up for life, goddammit!”

Travis is a newly retired professional baseball player, who had to retire much to early due to an injury. He is struggling with moving back to his home town feeling like a loser.

“How do you do that? You . . . accept me. Exactly as I am. But you still change me for the better.”

The chemistry she has with Travis is out of the park. It gave me little tingling feelings in my chest while reading it. This book is flirty, sweet romance and a bit ridiculous at times but kept my entertained to the last page. I loved the secondary characters which is always a big plus for me and found the dynamic they bring to this story and I can't wait for more in this series, in fact I've already bough the next in the series.

Fix Her Up is the first book by @tessabaileyisanauthor that I’ve read and it will. Not. Be. The. Last! Given that I started the next book in the series straight away 😂! This is also the first book in her Hot & Hammered series. This novel is all about Georgette and Travis. ⁣

Georgette is the youngest of her siblings and often overlooked, not part of the family business and the family clown. Literally - she runs her own party entertainment business. Travis is an ex baseball star who’s found himself back in his hometown, jobless, prospectless and really just in a bit of a downward spiral. ⁣

This is a best friend’s sibling and fake relationship romance, with Travis being best friends with Georgie’s older brother. I loved the forbidden element of their relationship, sneaking around and both in denial a bit about what they’re up to. Georgie meddles in Travis’s life mid-wallow and pulls him out of his isolation and back to life. Both characters support each other and here comes the fake relationship. Travis has to clean up his romantic life to win a job he would love.⁣

The banter between the characters, morphing into a sexy, steamy (fake) relationship was great to read. I loved the transition both of them went through, and as always with this plot blurring of the lines between fake and real occurs. I love the denial and natural angst that brings. ⁣

I love discovering a new author that makes me immediately want to read anything and everything they’ve ever written. As I said I immediately bought the second book in the series and I’m looking forward to the third!

OH MY GOSH!
I don’t know if I need to laugh, or scream, or cry, I can’t handle the level of feels this book has given me.

I absolutely love Georgie. She became the joker to be seen at a young age, and she didn’t believe in herself enough to be anything other than a clown. She found her voice, and her strength not because of Travis but thanks to him. He boosted her up and made her feel like her voice mattered.

Travis' world was turned upside down by Georgie. He pulled himself out of the gutter, or his almost rat infested apartment to be precise and found his place in the world again.

The chemistry between them was so intense I loved it right from the beginning.

It was laugh out loud funny, the things Georgie came out with. I love that it emphasized how humiliating teen crushes can be, she practised making out on her hand.. Like come on, it was just perfect.

That ending ugh, the feels are intense.

I loved all the side characters too, I can’t believe we’re getting a Rosie and Dom book, eeek! I NEED IT NOW!!! I hope we get a little of what’s next for Georgie and Travis in Love Her or Lose Her. I’m not ready to say goodbye to them yet.

The narrator Charlotte North is absolutely wonderful. I’ll be looking out for her in future.

Okay, here’s one of my many favourite moments;
“you have to fight for what you deserve. What you want is no more or less important than what anyone else wants.”

Georgie Castle is sick of being the youngest sibling, being treated like a baby by her family and everyone else in this town. Travis Ford is a playboy baseball player who was forced to leave the game due to a career-ending injury. He returns to his home town, wanting to spend his time eating junk food and getting drunk, but Georgie has other plans. She pulls her old family friend from his depressive state and as they spend more time together they realize they can help each other. A fake relationship would benefit them both, she would be taken more seriously and his playboy past will be a thing of the past. They never thought it would turn serious, Travis didn't plan on falling in love. But he couldn't help what happened.

I absolutely love this story. Straight from page one, I loved this book. Georgie was the perfect heroine, likeable and sweet but enough of a backbone to not be taken advantage of. And Travis was the dreamy hero we all love. Their love was a slow burn, but once they enter into their fake relationship it doesn't take long to realize that it wasn't fake at all. The chemistry between these two jumped off the page. I could see this as a movie and could only dream of seeing this on the big screen. This book is very well written, the love scenes are perfect (and pretty dirty) I can't wait to read more Tessa Baily in the future.

From the cover you would think that this is a cutesy romance read, but don't be fooled. We follow Georgie as she embarks on a 'fake' relationship with Travis to convince her parents and family that she is now grown up and let me tell you the explicitly graphic sex scenes in this book are totally for grown ups!
Now I am all for steam in books, but at times (I can't believe I am about to say this but) even I thought it bordered on being too much (this might be down to the fact I was trying to read it with family members around!) steam and not quite enough plot. Saying that I did still really enjoy it and I liked the secondary characters and the interactions between everyone. The over use of 'Baby Girl' did start to grate somewhat towards the end though.
I would recommend this for fans of romance, but would just caveat by saying if you don't want to read about sexual exploits it might be best to give this one a miss.
