This was a easy to read romance. A bit predictable but fun.
I would have preferred a lots less unnecessary swearing.

Title: Single Dad's Waitress
Series: Main Street Single Dads
Author: Amelia Wilde
Designation: Book 1 of Series, Full-Length Standalone Single Dad Romantic Comedy, NO CLiffhanger
My Rating: Five Hilariously Sexy Stars*****
I have no idea why Amazon had this book originally categorized as Fantasy/Action Adventure/Sports Romance, because Single Dad's Waitress is none of those things. However, It is a sexy, fun, flirty, fast-paced, well-crafted, easy to follow, full-length standalone romantic comedy filled to the brim with outrageous humor, instant attraction, steamy passion, dreamy romance, an all too real small town full of quirky residents with a charming little diner named Short Stack boasting the best pancakes around, a wonderful cast of relatable and very engaging characters including a beautiful, brokenhearted, down on her luck heroine in need of a fresh start, a single dad hero with an adorable two-year-old named Minnie, and, of course, a healthy measure of agonizing angst. What's life without a little heartbreaking drama, right? The narrative is beautifully written in the first person with clearly defined his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, snappy, well-executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. But the crowning achievement of this sexy romp and my favorite component is the delightful cast of characters. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists, Ryder Harrison and Valentine Carr. The lovely Valentine has come home to Lakewood to lick her wounds and mend her broken heart. She lost her home, job, and boyfriend in one fell swoop. So now, she's back at the same job she had during high school, a waitress at the Short Stack Diner, but's it's only until she gets on her feet and saves enough money to get out of town for good. Unfortunately, she had no idea her plans would be derailed by an adorable, precocious two-year-old named Minnie and a cocky, panty-melting-hot single dad named Ryder Harrison. Ryder is a handsome bad boy former soldier who has suddenly become the sole provider and caregiver for his cuter-than-cute two-year-old daughter Minnie. Ryder has moved to Lakewood to accept a job working with his brother for the summer. He has no intention of sticking around the small community of Lakewood and plans to beat feet out of town with his daughter as soon as possible. He had no interest in making friends or putting down roots, no interest in romance, and especially not a relationship. Nope, not him! However, a scorching-hot but very temporary summer fling with the beautiful, blushing red-haired waitress from the Short Stack Diner just might fit nicely into his schedule. What could go wrong? A lot actually, especially since their hearts didn't get the memo! Yup, you guessed it; they fooled around and fell in love - just like the song! But will love be enough? We'll see!

Did I like this book? Yes, I loved it! Was it perfect? No. There were a few boo-boos but nothing that truly distracted me from the story. Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does contain explicit language and some steamy dreamy love scenes. There's no danger, violence, suspense or mayhem, but there is a boatload of laughter, adorable cuteness, heartwarming sweetness, and a whole lot of smexy fun! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! I've been following Amelia Wilde's writing career for the past year and have read several of her books but I must admit, Single Dad's Waitress is, hands down, my favorite. And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

A sworn worthy romance. Single Dad meets newly single waitress in a town he doesn't want to be in. He doesn't want anything to complicate his life with his 2 year old daughter and hurt him like his last relationship did. Trying to start over and ending up in a pancake shop in this new town Ryder finds himself drawn to the awkward red haired beauty of his waitress, Valentine. I couldn't put this book down! Great start to the Main Street Single Dad's book series.

This story by Amelia Wilde started off slow, but after the first or halfway into the second chapter, she had my attention. This story is about love and trust. It's about not jumping to conclusions. Valentine Carr came home to Lakewood from New York City after being told by her wealthy boyfriend that he felt like they were wrong for each other. The reason It came to that conclusion is that her then live in boyfriend Conrad and she had a pregnancy scare. She was two weeks late on her period and thought she might be pregnant. She wasn't and since she was working for Conrad's father's business she felt It was better for her to leave and come home to Lakewood and get herself together. Then their is Ryder Harrison and his daughter Minnie. Minnie's mom was a drug addict named Angie. Ryder had come home after doing a couple of yours in the service in Afghanistan. Angie was Ryder's childhood girlfriend and she seemed okay. He followed her to New York where she only got worse. He finally left her 5 months ago but he couldn't handle the high rent in the city so he asked his brother Jamie for a job for the summer so he could get his self together. Jamie had money he was an entrepreneur. He owned several businesses. Ryder and Jamie were a little estranged because he left Michigan after he graduated and went in the service. He felt like he wasn't a good student and he needed a fresh start. Jamie was the nerd, the wonder boy. I digress. This is the reason that Valentine Carr and Ryder and Minnie Harrison happen to be in Lakewood, this small town not to far from the city. They eventually get to where they want to have a "so called fling". You will enjoy this easy to read and entertaining story. I would highly recommend this book.

I really loved this book! I loved the characters, and the storyline!! I loved the flow of it as well, until Chapter 48 and then it was a bit confusing as a random person showed up with their own chapter. But all in all I Loved it!!!
I really enjoyed how Ryder and Valentine met, their backstories, which they are both fresh out of hard relationships.
Val's come back home to work at the diner, while Ryder has come to Lakewood to work with his brother and is trying to find balance with that and his daughter Minnie.
He meets Valentine, and even though they both think it's just a fling, their hearts know better.
In comes trouble with a capital T, and Ryder goes off, and not thinking about asking Val about what happened. OH I HATED HIM SO MUCH AT THAT POINT!!! Ryder that is!
Val did get on my nerves a bit cause she kept comparing Ryder to Conrad, and she couldn't see that she was doing it. I wanted to shake her and scream at her that Ryder was NOTHING like him!
Can Ryder and Valentine make it work?
How does Minnie play into their relationship?
Can Val see the light in the end to make things work with Ryder and realise that Ryder is NOTHING like Conrad!?

Some of my fave quotes from the book

1. I rolled my eyes at her. " I am not waiting for him to show up." I completely was. - Val was so waiting for Ryder to show up again at the diner.

2. I told him I wanted him to mow the lawn shirtless. I told him that. I spoke those words out loud with my mouth. - I wanted to see him shirtless while mowing the lawn too!

3. I'm standing outside the door with a black, lacy, strapless bra on, telling Ryder that I'm ready to go out on a date. - ROFL!! I died laughing cause Valentine had no clue she was like that.

Louise H - "Life In The Book Lane" Book Reviews
4,0 sur 5 étoiles A really funny, steamy, summery read
Commenté au Royaume-Uni 🇬🇧 le 19 août 2017

This is a funny, sugary-sweet, steamy romp of a rom-com. Ryder and Valentine are both determined they only want a summer fling but are also wildly attracted to each other. The course of hot lust struggles to run smoothly and Ryder doesn't help, in his confused state, by sometimes being a bit of an ass to Valentine. And she is so ditsy that she doesn't help the matter either.

Valentine was funny, sassy and a bit of a klutz. I didn't like how she had allowed herself to be treated in the past but hey, she's only young so I'll let that pass (and she did stand her ground at the end). Ryder has such a big chip on his shoulder it's amazing he can stand up straight and he struggles with what he truly wants out of life. There attempts at having a torrid and wild fling were both amusing and also steaming hot.

There was a lot of humour through out the story and it was nicely done, not too over the top and not too much of it. There were also some very serious parts and some extremely well written angst. I really enjoyed reading this book, it is well written, has a good plot with some nice twists and a steady pace that kept me engaged. It's quite different to the 'Kiss' series of books and I definitely loved this different style by the author.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "SINGLE DAD'S WAITRESS" this was an absolutely wonderful romantic story that you must read there is so much humor, sadness, betrayal, and sone very steamy hot sex scenes. Ryder Harrison comes to Lakewood after the breakup with his ex-girlfriend and mother of his beautiful , precious , adorable 2yr. old baby girl Minnie he's angry , distraught, confused, and trying to make things work for him and his daughter he's only staying for the suimmer . Minnie wants pancakes so he takes her to the Short Stack Diner where he meets Valentine Carr she's a waitress there and the attraction is immediate she does some pretty funny things she so tongue tied looking into Ryder's eyes she also came back to her hometown because her ex dumped her and made her lose her job. Both Ryder and Valentine decide to hook up but only for the summer no commitments so much happens in this very emotional sad story at times but what lightens everything up is Minnie I just love this little girl she is such a delight and a very big part of this amazing fantastic story it's a must read you don't want to miss. Amelia Wilde did a terrific job with these awsome characters and the storyline it just flowed beautifully I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend to read I would love if there was an extended epilogue it said there was an excerpt but I didn't get that it would probably add to the ending loved loved loved this book you have to get it or you will be very disappointed .

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Awesome read

I just love books on single dads. This was truly an amazing read. Though this book had it steamy parts it had its funny parts as well, I mean it kept me laughing so hard. The characters in this story are truly amazing. I also done whispersync with this book and the narrators were awesome.

I can not imagine what it was like for Valentine. She had made it to her dream job and now here she was back in her hometown being a waitress. Her dreams had shattered. Her self-esteem had took a beat down. Her Ex had made her feel like crap. Her one goal was to save money and get back out of this small town.

Ryder was this sexy single dad. When Valentine first met him he had this hardness to him. The only softness to him was when he interacted with his 2 year old daughter.

You will just fall in love with Minnie which is Ryder’s 2 year old daughter. She had this bubbling personality and brings sun shine to ever room. I so love when the authors brings kids into the story and gives their personality life and that is what this author has done.

I loved the incident that happen that broke the walls that Ryder had up. Valentine was nothing like he had expected and having a summer fling with her seemed like the perfect solution to scratch his itch and get her out of his system.

Of course there are things that happen that cause stress, distrust, and turmoil. There are misunderstandings and it looks like things will not work out between these two but don’t worry it has its happy ending.

This was a great story and glad I got a chance to read the book. To name one favorite part would be hard because there was so many but I think I will got with when they got busted by their neighbor or the sausage man..LOL

Single Dad's Waitress is Book 1 in the Main Street Single Dads series and can be read as a complete standalone.

Valentine returns to her small town, down on her luck and broke. She's embarrassed to have to waitress again but grateful too for the work, especially when she meets Ryder and his adorable daughter, Minnie. It's like love at first sight, if only Ryder stays long enough to find out for sure.

This was my first read by author, Amelia Wilde and I was honestly surprised by how much I fell in love with these characters and this story! Valentine was endearing and laugh out loud funny even when she wasn't trying. I literally sat there smiling and laughing at her antics. I FLOVE it when an author can draw that emotion out of me! Ryder was definitely a more serious character. He was dealing with some dark issues but he balanced out the story, gave it a more sober and serious feel without making it dreary. I totally enjoyed watching these two take the plunge together and of course, little Minnie was so adorable. The single dads trope always makes my ovaries SIGH!

This is a fun, flirty, easygoing read. I'm excited to add Ms. Wilde to my list of rom-com authors and looking forward to reading more! Told from dual POVs with a happy ever after. I voluntarily read and reviewed this Book.

3,0 sur 5 étoiles Wow, this was not my favorite book

I really hate posting negative reviews so I'll try to keep it to constructive criticism. This book could have been a little better to begin with if it were 100 pages more, adding in more character building and background information. I know the author was giving mystery to the reasons both mc's had traumatic experiences that brought them together, but it was honestly very confusing getting tiny scraps of info here and there. There seemed to be a plot hole with how the two mc's didn't know each other as well. They spend a lot of the book droning on and on about how small town this place is with the gossip and everyone knowing everyone... but somehow these two never knew each other? Was it a big enough town that they somehow didn't go to school together because technically they should have grown up together since they both grew up in this town? Lastly, I was so put off by the H's lingo. It's like he spoke in tacky pickup lines. I really wanted the h to be put off by it too and call him out on it, but instead she said tacky pickup lines as well! It was pretty cringy at the worst of times with the H always talking about his looks and needing his ego stroked. I still give this book 3 out of 5 stars because in theory I liked the story, but it needed some serious help.
