THIS BOOK ROCKED MY WORLD...IT WAS SO GOOD. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LEA AND AUSTIN

Review by Natasha Gentile

This book, this book, killed me. I was so surprised when Aurora announced that Austin was getting a book. I mean we met Austin in Until Lilly where we didn’t really want to like him, but we fell for him hook line and sinker.

From the first page of this book your heart is beating a little bit faster than normal.

Lea Lamb and Austin Wolf were young when they fell in love. They never imagined the future could hold anything other than together-forever.

The first chapter is Lea and Austin declaring their love for each other. They always knew that they would end up married. Till tragedy strikes Lea, leaving her questioning everything that she ever knew. One thing for sure was that she knew she wasn’t cut out to be Austin’s wife anymore, leaving him, breaking everybody’s heart in the process. Making it hard for everyone to go on with their lives.

Fifteen years later, she is summoned back to her home town. Bringing back all the memories she shut out of her mind. For the last fifteen years she was only existing; she wasn’t living, she didn’t know how.

Leaning over the ferry, I look down at the water then hold out my left hand. Five years ago, I got married. I thought Ken could heal me. I thought the parts of me that were left after losing my father and leaving Austin would finally be full. I knew my father would want me to be happy, and I knew form talks with my mom that Austin had moved on, so it was time for me to do the same, to stop believing he would come after me, that our love was more than just a young girl’s fantasy.

She knows going back home is going to open wounds, wounds that she tried to put bandages on to keep the blood from seeping out. Although she is back in her childhood home, she still feels like a stranger, but she’s trying. She’s trying for her mom. She can do this, all she has to do is stay clear of Austin. Easier said than done.

Even from the distance separating us, my lungs compress at the beauty that is him. The years have been good to him. His hair is still shaggy, only now a little lighter, and his ace is tan and covered in a beard that makes his crystal blue eyes stand out even more. My eyes travel from his face to his torso, which is cover in a dark green thermal that shows off the muscles of his arms, chest and tapers waist, then down to his denim –covered thighs. When my gaze sweeps back up, his eyes are on me, and I see them crinkle in confusion then realization that soon turns to anger.

Austin is angry, he is so angry.

Fifteen years ago his heart walked away without a backward glance or thought of how he would go on. He loved Lea with every single fibre of his being.

For fifteen years, he has tried to go on with his life. He tried to find someone who would complete him like Lea did, but he fell short every single time. But now she is back, back on his island, and she is bringing up all the feelings he tried to erase. He is trying to feel one way while is heart is steering him in the other direction.

“I hate you, Lea,” he says, causing that small glimmer of hope I was feeling to fizzel out and turn my insides dark.

Just when Lea thinks everything will be okay the rug is pulled out from under her. She is finally accepting that this is where she was always meant to be. Where her heart always was, but how do you go on with your life when the one person you love hates you?
What happens when you find out that he has went on with his life, as you have?

Except the life that you two described, he made it a reality. He made it real. He turned all your dreams into his reality.

"Do you remember the Manderville house?” he takes a seat across from me so I turn to face him nodding my head. The Mandervill house was large log cabin that sat near the water. The entire front view of the house was all large windows with a huge wrap around porch that looked out at the ocean I loved that house and used to dream that one day it would be mine.
“I bought it three years ago and have been slowly remodeling it.”

Now that they both put the past behind them, they try to be friends. How hard is it to be friends with the one you thought you would be with forever? To me it would be unimaginable. To Lea and Austin it was a start. Except that secrets from the past come to surface and shatter the foundation of what they thought they knew.

“I’m telling you this because my baby doesn’t have many people to lean on and when I’m gone she’s going to need good people around who truly care about her, as much as you man not want to admit it, you still do.”

When push comes to shove, can Lea be the woman she once was? The woman who was not afraid of loving with all her heart or being loved. The woman who knew what she wanted and who she wanted it with. Can she be that woman again, after running away for so long or will she always be fighting to breathe?

Without a shadow of a doubt, I loved every single word in this story. It was filled with heartache, family, friends, survival, healing and most importantly ever lasting love. A love that no matter how fast you try to run from it, it grabs you and holds on to you never letting you go; never giving you a change to breath without it.

Once again Aurora nailed it. She made me feel every single thing that Lea and Austin went through, and I loved every single second of it.

Austin and Lea made me cry! Austin was in Until Lilly by Aurora Rose Reynolds and I'm so glad he got his own book and HEA. As boyfriend and girlfriend as teenagers, and with tragedy making them drift away from each other. Then Lea returns home when her mum gets sick and they get back together. Love that Austin just loves everything about Lea and helps with her issues. Loved reading their story so much. ❤️

Fighting to Breathe is the first novel in the new Shooting Stars series by Aurora Rose Reynolds and is one emotional and intense read. It focuses on themes of forgiveness, loss and ultimately redemption. This book held me enraptured from start to finish and never once could I put the book down whilst reading!!

This is a beautiful story about many forms of loss and the possible second chances that maybe you didn't think you'd ever have again. I don't want to give too much of the story away, but Lea Lamb and Austin Wolf have a past that they both thought was over and done with and therefore wouldn't be involved in each other's lives anymore; but when family tragedy sends Lea back to her small home town fishing village of Cordova in Alaska 15 years after she fled the place the tides turn, the truth is unveiled and it's up to them both to discover if they can fight for what they want or if the past is where they should leave their relationship. Lea and Austin's tale literally had me rooting for them and hoping all could be fixed between them throughout, but life is never that simple and Aurora gives us the whole gauntlet of emotions to endure: grief, anger, loss and the love of friendship. Lea is an amazingly strong character, having been through a lot, suffered some great losses but doing her best to not let this overwhelm her. Austin was just perfect, he will for sure steal a piece of your heart with his alpha ways: protective, caring and at times stubborn but he is always looking out for Lea in more ways than one.

This is a tale I will not spoil for you in my review but it's one I can't recommend enough. It's a deeply emotional read that resonates with many who have endured the pain of loss, anger at the way life can deal a cruel hand of fate and the power that friendship can be enough in your hour of need. At its heart it's a message about love: can your heart ever stop loving it's one true mate no matter how much time has past??

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Engaging and heartwarming second chance love story

This was an engaging and heartwarming second chance love story that draws you in from the very beginning.

Lea and Austin were high school sweethearts, two people meant to be together. However, when Lea's father dies in a fishing accident, Lea's fears cause her to run away from her family, her home and from Austin. Now, fifteen years later she's back home to take care of her mother and old wounds and hurts are resurrected.

Neither has ever really stopped loving the other. It's inevitable that they'll run into each other in their small town, but which emotion will win out when they're finally in each other's presence...hurt, fear, longing, anger, passion...love?

You definitely know what you're going to get when you pick up an Aurora Rose Reynolds book. And she definitely put her stamp on Austin...an alpha male filled with fierce possessiveness, tender affection, primal passion and impenetrable love.

I loved the way he took care of Lea. Lea, who didn't know she was battling so much more from her past. More vulnerable than she let on, and cracked in places where she thought were healing. I wanted to be angry with her actions, and believe me at times I was very frustrated with her, but when everything came full circle I understood everything more. There was so much more lurking beneath the surface, a deeper pain that Lea didn't even realize she was carrying.

Austin and Lea were clearly meant for each other in every possible way. No amount of trepidation, hurt or fear could keep their passion and love at bay.

This is just the book to pick up when you're looking for a swoony, emotional and sweet read for a rainy Sunday afternoon or a day at the beach. It's a great "one sitting" book that will engage you from the first page to the last and leave you feeling satisfied when you're done.

I'm definitely looking forward to continuing with this series and am intrigued with the little taste we got of the next couple. My interest has been piqued....I see the potential for lots of tissues.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Surprised how much I like it. Great debut of characters in their 30's!

I was surprised how much I liked this book! First of all, I am a fan of Aurora Rose Reynolds. I one-click all her books, I don't even care. I want to read them all! I was a little hesitant about this one though because, from the teasers, it looked a little angsty. I'm not into angst. But, bc it was ARR, I read it~ and I'm glad I did! I really loved Austin! He was a great H. I also think she did a great job of developing and growing the characters as best she could for a shorter book. I was also surprised that she wrote such great 30-year old characters as all her other books have h/H in their early 20's.
That said, some of the plot didn't make sense. Is there a reason Lea's mom didn't come clean while she was alive? How does an Alaska fisherman afford a million $$ home? Do they really make that much? How does a Montana accountant afford a $600K office space? Do accountants make THAT much in Montana that they can save up and spend that much on a space in small town Alaska? If so, I'm moving and going back to school.
ARR NEEDS to get serious about her editors. I mean, seriously. Every single one of her books are HORRIBLY edited!! Sharpie is a brand name, so it is capitalized. {Even I know that and I'm a blogger. ;)} Waste is trash, waist is a part of your body. There is no reason for an author this popular to have crappy editors. As another reviewer mentioned, fans would be HAPPY to edit for a chance to get an advanced copy. And as I've written before, I know a FANTASTIC real-life, professional editor that does amazing work. Contact me AAR and I will hook you up. I guarantee that the complaints about editing in the reviews will go away.
Overall, I would read this if you like Alphas that are in it for the long haul. I'll be re-reading it bc I really love Austin~ and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Also, God-Speed on Jax & Sven!

This second chance romance by Aurora Rose Reynolds was so many things...sad, funny, loving and most of all hopeful. Hopeful that knowing fear of loss can be overcome and hopeful that love and family are forever. This is a first in a series and a stand alone story.

We met Austin Wolf briefly in a previous book. He is a fisherman in Alaska and has had his heart ripped out when the love of his life left Alaska and, as he is led to believe, made a beautiful life for herself with someone else. He can't move past it and is basically still angry with her when she returns to Alaska years later. How will he deal with her being in his face again in this small fishing town? Will all his old feelings resurface or will the anger grow?

Lea Lamb left behind the love of her life fifteen years ago because she couldn't live with the fear of losing him like she lost her dad, at sea. When her mom needed her back in Alaska and her marriage ended she heads back into the town where her true love , as she was led to believe, has moved on with his happily ever after.

Not all is as it seems as these two star-crossed lovers come to find out. Can they give it another chance. She could really use his support and friendship in dealing with her mother's illness. Can he forgive her if she cannot forgive herself? Would just being friends ever be enough for either of them, especially when the sexual tension is unbearable?

Fear of loss is profound in Lea's mind but her love for Austin is strong and she will need to use it and feel it when she is in her darkest moments. Can Austin's powerful love help her be his "little lamb" again?

I thank you Ms. Reynolds for the very special pages of dedication you provided at the start of Fighting to Breathe and for including my mom's name.

xoxo

“I wanted her fifteen years ago and I still f--ing want her now.”

I never know how to review Aurora’s books... They are just that good I’m always left speechless, the stories she tells are beautiful, sexy and full of the kind of love that fills your heart, and this one is the same!

A second chance, emotional, love story. Lea and Austin were finishing up school and planning out their lives, no doubts about it, they were going to spend the rest of their lives loving eachother. Then tragedy strikes, a death, tearing them apart. Lea leaves the town with no plans to look back. Austin is left there to pick up the pieces.
Until tragedy strikes again, years later and Lea has to come back to the small town and people she abandoned years ago.

Every book Aurora writes I get sucked in, it captures my full attention and I fall in love each time, no different this time around, and I fell harder than before and that’s hard for me to say, you have met those Mayson men right? You've met Nico, right?! I fell in love with Austin, hard and fast, swooning, big time. This is a second-chance romance like I’ve said already, so they need to get through some of that stuff with each other, along with dealing with a tragedy, and dealing with fears too. This was so beautiful, you will feel ALL. THE. FEELS. Lea and Austin, are one of my top favourite couples for sure, the love between those two! Your heart will break, start to mend and then be put together in the most wonderful way. Love, loss, secrets, reunited love and new friendships all in one. Aurora has perfected it once again. I am very lucky to have been able to read this early and can’t wait for everyone else to fall in love with Lea and Austin.

“The difference between me and you, man, is I wouldn’t have stepped out on her. I would have fought for us, even if that meant loving her enough for the both of us.”

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Sweet, sexy second chance. Seriously - read this book!

Once upon a time, a voracious reader, bored with the books she was reading, ventured forth deep into the internet, where she found a blog about the romance genre with a focus on yummy alpha males. What was written in this blog intrigued her. However, as she read, all of the books being recommended were books she had already read. Just as she was going to give up, she noticed that one writer had mentioned a book, Until November. The voracious reader, in her boredom, decided she had nothing to lose and decided to download the book. As you may have guessed, I am that voracious reader. That day, I fell for Asher and vowed to be a lifelong fan of Aurora Rose Reynolds. Seriously, I don't even read the blurb of any of her books. I just buy. I am never disappointed. That being said, I am not a fan of "second chance" books. I generally find that they are too angsty for me. Not this one. Perfect amount of angst. I loved both Lea and Austin. The story was well written, the emotional connection was there - I laughed some, I cried some, and fell in love with the characters. I hated for it to end. While I don't want to wait until 2016 for the next book in this series to come out, I will wait (impatiently). While she writes series, each book is a complete story - no cliffhangers, beautiful, funny and emotional HEAs. Hot Alpha H's, sweet, sassy strong (well, sometimes stronger than they think) h's - and she blends the characters in her books together so that we don't have to miss them --- much. She is one of my favorite "new" authors - I highly recommend this book - well, any book that she has written.
