There is SO much helpful thinking in this book. I believe it can be incredibly helpful for visually anyone with anxiety - with a slight concern and possible exception - people with diagnosed anxiety disorder need more than the book for guidance, and it's highly unlikely that a psychiatrist would automatically agree with pursuing some of the Monkey Training methods that are proposed. Anxiety is complicated at best, but there are people out there who could suffer significant levels of panic attacks while trying some of these techniques, and I didn't really see a lot of warning in that regard. That also points to the issue that sometimes the folks reading the book are trying to help someone else, and there's really no allowance for that. If the anxious person isn't the one reading the book and trying the techniques, there's a lot that just can't happen. The book is great for people who need to learn to face "reasonable" amounts of anxiety problems. Some people have a more complicated problem.

There was a portion of book that was good to keep and reflect on. Had other expectation of book struggling through beginning glad I found the spot that was helpful.

I’ve read lots about how to tackle my worry, and this is the first book I’ve found that has helped. The science is easy to understand and resonated with my experiences, and it is incredibly practical, right down to what you should do first, and what to say to yourself and do when you’re an intense worry experience. There are activities to do, free things to download online and a breathing recording to use. What she is suggesting is challenging! And at first I didn’t want to do it, but when I began it make a real positive difference in how I felt and thought. I would highly recommend this!

This is my go to book for when my anxiety is acting up. Most books say to just let the anxiety pass or float with the anxiety which seems impossible. This book puts your anxiety as a monkey (monkey brain) and it is much easier for me to imagine a monkey messing with me. Now i am more prone to think “oh! The monkey is messing with me” rather than my normal “omg! I’m feeling anxious” which adds to the anxiety. If you are anxious i highly recommend this book. While i have read many good anxiety books this one kind of simplifies it for you to where it seems possible to control your anxiety. For me, i don’t get as panicked because it’s just an annoying little monkey messing with me.

If you are struggling with anxiety I would highly highly recommend this book. I started reading it rolling my eyes because I hate self help books but thats not what this is. This book is an action plan to not only cope with your anxiety but to eventually, with practice, lessen your anxiety. I always felt my brain was this unique thing that no one else could understand until I read this book. For such a small book it has had a HUGE impact on my life. It is the first book I have ever read that really made me feel like I could tame my anxiety and even incorporate it as a partner in my life.

As some of these kinds of books will be, this one kept the ideas simple and a bit repetative. If you've read any primary material on Buddhism and medetation, you may find this book provides a simplistic overview. If you are new to the subject, then I think you'll find the book makes a good entry point into the topic and provides several helpful ideas.

This book is so simple to read and understand. After having NLP, CBT and hypnotherapy for anxiety, plus EFT for trauma, I can honestly say this book beats them all.

As I was reading it explained my anxieties, my triggers and how I related, and reacted to them. I felt so understood!

This book offers a direct way to work with the anxiety. It doesn’t tell you to ignore, or replace your thoughts. What it does is explain how to learn to hold the anxious feelings and thus help stop the cycle of anxiety.

As I was reading I was recognising this style was actually the same as some spiritual practices I do. Such as non resistance and acceptance. They say the path out of anxiety is to go through it. I believe this to be true, and this book does an incredible job of holding your hand and walking you through the process.

Every aspect is considered and you get a great and yet simple tool kit to help start the process.

Really really wonderful.

I love this book. I first listened to the audio version, but loved it so much I bought it for my husband to read (and to reread when I’m having a bad day) I’ve suffered from anxiety for as long as I can remember. I think anyone could relate to much of the analogies that the author sets up. I also appreciate how the author goes into the scientific background of how our minds have evolved to create anxiety as a natural safeguard. As someone who is fascinated with our evolutionary roots, I found that to really put things into perspective. That constant tight feeling in my chest is finally gone after this book. (My therapist has helped too) I highly recommend this book as a great supplement to anyone struggling with anxiety!
