100% spoiler-free book review

Restored is the follow-up of Necessary Restorations, the story of Sam and Tiel. Although you could probably read it as a standalone, you would miss a lot by not reading how they met. I can't even fathom anyone is reading a Walsh series book and not wanting to read the others.
This book is very different from the regular contemporary romance, just because it starts right after Sam proposed to Tiel. After that, we all know that love still has to grow and fight what life can throw at us.
Sam is not the regular hero we use to find in romance novels. Of course, he's handsome, but besides, he's not an alpha male, and he has so much baggage he's still learning every day how to deal with it.
Tiel is a brilliant musician, a very skilled therapist, and you could think she's thriving from outside. I always find a part of me in all Kate Canterbary's heroines. Maybe that's why I'm constantly pulled toward her books.
It's my second read of this one, but I haven't reviewed it before. I just can't get enough of the Walshes; they are my book family.

In this "sequel" to Necessary Restorations, we go back a little on the timeline from the previous book and we follow Sam and Tiel as they plan their wedding and move into married life. Definitely not a standalone as you need to know how they got together to fully appreciate this one.

They get their "surprise wedding" while dealing with Tiel's horrible family and all the regular Walsh shenanigans.

Even before tying the knot, Sam and Tiel already start trying to expand he family. They go through heartbreak and loss, but dealing with it all in a very much more mature and adult-y way now.

As in all the Walsh books, we keep up with all the Walshes and Riley ("the screw-up") is becoming and endearing true favorite. I absolutely love all the nicknames he comes up with and how loyal and reliable he is in keeping his siblings' secrets (even through he has his own secret he's been keeping and that's killing him inside). I love how Sam and, mostly, Tiel put up with him living with them at the firehouse. The poor guy is a master of "walking in on stuff".

A little sadder due to the subjects it deals with, but another great addition to the series.

Narration: The amazingly talented duo Christian Fox/Lucy Rivers reprising their roles.

(Magnolia Santillian has a bigger presence in this one and is the trigger for a dognapping caper!)

Rep and possible triggers: MMC is type one diabetic and has other chronic ailments; parent loss; family abandonment experienced by FMC; infertility issues; miscarriage

I'm just going to say it: nobody writes like Kate Canterbary. I know I’m a big fan of hers, but quite honestly, I don’t think I’m biased. I have many authors that I’ve followed over the years and I can honestly say that I take each book as it comes. When it comes to the Walsh Series, Underneath It All (Book 1) and The Space Between (Book 2) were always my two favorites. In general, I do find that the first book in a series tends to stay my favorite throughout.

Now, I loved (5-star loved) Necessary Restorations and The Cornerstone, but the first two just held a special place in my bookheart.

Having read Restored last week, I can, with all certainty, say that it is by far my favorite Walsh book to-date and in fact, it is (I’m nervous about saying this) my favorite book that I’ve read so far this year.

I love the Walsh family and feel like they must actually exist somewhere in Boston, but beyond that, the writing in this book just completely overwhelmed me.

Ms. Canterbary has such a gift for saying as much with what she doesn't write, as she does with the words that make it to the page. Her craft and her talent continue to shine more and more with each book.

Now, in general, I love dark reads and books that leave me absolutely gutted ~ those are the ones that tend to stay with me the longest. While Restored definitely pulled on me emotionally and had me in tears at certain times, there is something so honest and plausible and real about what’s happening, that for me, that’s what makes Restored even that much more impactful. Everything in these books happens to real, every day people. They’re experiences that we can all relate to and that is what is so powerful.

Beyond all of that, I just have to mention how much I fell in love with Sam in this book. I loved his unyielding love and devotion to Tiel and I loved, beyond everything else, how he knew exactly what she needed (physically, emotionally or otherwise), when she needed it and how he did everything within his power to be that for her.

There’s a line in the song Soulmate by Natasha Bedingfield that says, “Who doesn’t long for someone to hold; Who knows how to love you without being told?” and that is how I felt about Sam and Tiel. In fact, the mere memory of what it felt like to read their story, is literally making me tear up as I write this.

Ok, enough with the tears.

My favorite books to read are those that are a combination of smart, sexy and funny. Yet again, Ms. Canterbary hits a home run on all three fronts.

Whether you’re new to the Walsh Series or a die-hard fan like I am, Read. This. Book.

I was not going to read this one because Tiel just annoys me but I wanted to make sure Sam got his happy ending and that he was being treated equally and fairly since Tiel likes to make her own unfair rules. She did redeem herself, she finally has grown in this story and can play nice with everyone now that she does not have a chip on her shoulder and took it out on anyone who has family. Really love the family dynamics of the Walsh and Halsted siblings.

First off, I would like to point out that the previous 4 books of the Walsh Series are a necessity before reading Restored. You’ll be glad you did.
Ms. Canterbary’s writing is truly special. Each page is witty, smart, laugh out loud funny. I often think to myself that it’s like reading an extended email from that one girlfriend from college. You know- the one that you can say the dirtiest stuff to and she just gets it…and she’s not a judge-y judger, because she thinks you’re awesome. It’s that friend that held our hand through our “promiscuous” phase. The one that every time you talk to her, you are so grateful there is someone else in the world who is just as subversive and irreverent as you are, gets your pop culture references, and understands that you paid your power bill late to score a Tory Burch tote…because you needed it. It’s so much fun.
That being said, I have become attached to The Walsh family’s cast of characters. Their roles within their ever over achieving careers, the romances with the one who completes the story, the self-discoveries through childhoods not entirely unlike our own, their aesthetically pleasing surroundings (The exposed beams, Shannon’s bowl that holds the fruit is Waterford, Sam’s suit is Prada and that just makes me happy…whatever), navigating the relationships they have to each other, and the space they occupy in the world. Ms. Canterbary has a way of weaving the intricacies of intimacy, both romantic and platonic, that allows the reader to experience the discovery in real time and just feel. Unique and genuine, the stories move along organically. So much so, that I turn off the progress thingy on my Kindle so I don’t catch the sads at 75%.
I received an ARC, through luck and being on the Facebook group at the right times to sign up…I was totally psyched. However, I didn’t know what to expect from Restored. At one time, I figured we’d run into the next Walsh and his or her story; and that’s okay, I’m pumped for the next one (not specific- #SaveRiley). But, the author let fans be aware (on her various and hilarious posts on social media) that this wasn’t that. What it is is a window into the love an author has for her characters, and that author’s understanding that her readers love them too.
And so, this book is the project manager’s update on the current projects, our characters coming through demolition, and the rebuild, to the ultimate in sustainability, engineering, and design…Restored. So, go read all the books, 1-4, and then get Restored. If you are already Walsh familiar, enjoy. It’s a 5-star continuation of the family we love so much. Thanks, Kate Canterbary.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles My faith in "sequels" has been RESTORED!

Sam and Tiel have more to say in "Restored," The Walsh Series Book 5. A lot more, to be exact.

To be honest, I wasn't quite sure how happy I was going to be when I first learned that Book 5 of this incredibly realistic and wonderfully written series was going to be about a repeat couple (in case you didn't know, "Necessary Restorations," aka Book 3, was also about Sam and Tiel), rather than visit someone else in the family that hasn't received any love yet. Let me say this: my qualms were squashed as soon as I started reading.

Maybe it's just me, but each time I read one of the books in The Walsh Series, I fall in love with those characters and say "Okay, these ones are my favorite," until I read the next book and I fall in love all over again. Regardless, right now, Sam and Tiel have inched their way back to the top of my favorite couple.

This installment does not skimp on anything that Kate Canterbary is known for. There's plenty of sass, steam, secrets, and sexy times.

Don't be fooled, though. If you've read the first book about Sam and Tiel, then you'll know to expect some rough road for these two. Nothing is perfect but Sam vows to make Tiel happy in his own perfect way. She belongs to him and he'll go to the ends of the earth to make sure she knows how much he loves her.

And this book has everything. There's a wedding, secrets, big reveals, family drama, happiness, sadness, and even a bit with a dog. I don't like writing spoilers and I refuse to do it now. While reading this book I found myself laughing, smiling, trying to prolong my progress because it was written so beautifully that I never wanted it to end. The realness that Kate is able to captivate in her books is unmatched. At one point, my heart was breaking into a million pieces and I was desperately trying to wipe away my tears so I could finish. I felt a certain part of this book on such a personal level and I could relate, sympathize with the characters, and I felt every single emotion they were going through.

Definitely pick yourself up a copy of this book. This series can be read all as stand alone novels, but why do that? They're great alone, but better when read in consecutive order. I'm never disappointed with anything by Ms. Canterbary and I know you won't be either if you enjoy quality writing, depth of characters, researched subject matter, and incredible sexy times.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles All bow down to Kate Canterbary

I was extremely lucky to receive an Arc copy of this book. Here is my honest review.

All bow down to Kate Canterbary, the master of storytelling, the master of kick ass writing. If I was being pushed out of a frankly too tiny plane onto a desert island to spend the rest of my days wearing skirts made of leaves and drinking Coconut milk and could only take one book series with me, I would choose the Walsh series hands down. Notice I said series, not book. Choosing one out of the now five Walsh books would be like picking your favourite child, chocolate bar or spa treatment.

Although Sam and Tiel were always my favourites I was questioning why Kate chose to extend their journey rather than introduce a lesser-known Walsh (such as Erin) as the focus of her next book. Now I know why. Now I fully understand. Their journey simply hadn't finished.

Sam is my husband in many ways and this book talked personally in my ear, whispering forgotten memories. I was rooting for them so much. I read this book in one sitting because I had to know what happened and that's the mark of fantastic story telling. Kate’s books are like watching an Argentine tango, intricately executed, a feast for the senses and pure sex on a stick. They are also funny. They are heartfelt. They speak to so many. This is my book; it mirrors parts of my journey. How could I not connect with it so fully when I was already pretty damn connected to these books?

Kate’s characters are like a real family to me.

Teeny tiny hint of a SPOILER!!!!
I need to mention the genius of Another big event happening in the elevator after meeting Sam there originally. I was crying ugly face sobs at this nugget of brilliantness. This book just seemed to connect them as a family even more. Tiel has successfully navigated her way through her issues and Will is a firm fixture. It was beautifully executed. I didn’t think I could love them anymore but I’m at that stage where I’m really jealous not to be part of their family!
SPOILER FINISHED - YOU ARE SAFE TO RESUME READING!

I'm still recovering from the genius writing, humour, emotional connection and down right amazingness of this book (I’m making up words. Is that even a word? Brilliantness, amazingness…I don’t care, amazingness covers it)

Losing a night’s sleep was totally worth it…

But Kate? I’m sorry I need Erin’s story quickly followed by Riley. Never stop. Take your time, but never stop. Thank you.

It was a long, cold winter awaiting the latest in the Walsh Series, but it was WELL worth the wait. Once again, Kate Canterbary delivered and delivered hard. This author writes with an honesty so few others possess and an honesty that ever fewer can compare to. I had the privilege of receiving an ARC copy of "Restored" by Kate Canterbary, and as you can image, this was the closest I've ever come to winning the lottery. After 4 hours and 1 Kindle re-charge, I promptly burst out into happy tears while feeling the dopey fan-girl smile plastered on my face. I re-read the next day.
The characters in this series are far from cookie-cutter, they are real. They are vivid and honest, and do not fit into any kind of mold. Their issues are real. They are not outlandish; they encounter tragedy, love, friendship, etc., but without any of the overly dramatic flair that we have continued to see in the past. Kate Canterbary has allowed her readers to become voyeurs into their universe (aka "The Walshery") and it is a world that her readers are happy to be a part of.
The plot in "Restored" was deep, complex and woven more intricately than the previous novels. This was only fitting as we were revisiting our main characters (Sam and Teil) for the second time, as well as getting an update on the rest of the Walsh Clan. Sam and Teil; or as I like to call them, "Steil" may have the spotlight in Restored, there is no doubt that this is an ensemble cast. This story takes you through the timelines, and overlaps flawlessly without missing a beat. Readers get to see two fantastic aspects of this novel: we knew a wedding took place. Now we get to see the details of HOW they got there and what their Happily Ever After means to them. The answers were both delicious and satisfying. Frankly, this is Kate Canterbary's best work to date. This series has found a terrific stride and the bar has been set.
My favorite parts? Getting a deeper dive into the mystery of Erin Walsh and the long, ongoing feud with her sister. We also get to see a more mature evolution in our dear Riley (I've always had a soft spot for this kid, he's the ultimate book boyfriend in the making.) Every appearance of his pre-heats every oven in the room :)
December cannot come fast enough for me so I can read the next installment of my favorite fictionally family.

I was so excited to learn we were getting more Sam and Tiel and I have to say, Restored has captured my heart. The Walshes are one of my favorite literary families. They are big, loud, and love giving each other hell on a regular basis. This series gets better and better with each book, and every time I read the newest one, I think this is my favorite. This book was amazing on so many levels; least of all was reconnecting with two of my favorite characters and their boisterous family.

“Tiel. I want to be married to you. I want to be yours, and I want you as mine. This is about us, and nothing else. Please, sweetheart, let’s pick a date, and then we focus on the important things, like honeymoon destinations and what to name our kids.”

In this book, we get a more mature Sam and Tiel. They are a solid unit now, and are committed to working on their issues together. It was refreshing to see how these two took on the obstacles they are faced with, including the challenges of getting married and starting a family. While they both still harbor insecurities, communication helps them avoid unnecessary drama. There is nothing forced in their relationship, everything between these two feels organic. The way Sam and Tiel love each other is beautiful.

“I get to keep you, I thought, and pressure swelled in my chest as I realized, for the millionth time, that this man belonged to me. He was going to be my husband, the father of my babies, the one I grew old and most likely senile with, the one meant all for me.”

I loved how the Walsh siblings support one another, it’s truly inspiring. You can see the growth this family has made from the first book. Kate’s writing is incredible, her witty dialogue and hilarious banter had me laughing out loud throughout the book. The emotion she pours onto the page grabbed me right from the start. There is humor, sadness, and struggle, all adding up to one incredible story.

“I want to give you everything, anything. My family, my name, my children, my everything. Take it all. Take me, and let me give you everything they couldn’t.”

This is not a standalone. The book’s timeline corresponds in part with The Cornerstone, and there are plenty of spoilers for the previous books, so I recommend reading the series in order.
