cute enemies to lovers story

It's a cute enemies to lovers story. The problem is that you know that they will end up in bed together, so I kept searching for signs. The beginning was a little slow, maybe because it's written at the first person from the heroin point of view. Once I was into the story, I kept on reading to see when she would understand that Josh was in love with her. That part was enjoyable, but once they finally get in the sack, I was a tiny disappointed. It's not that I need very detailed hot scenes, but her banter about how good he made her feel was much too long and trying too hard to avoid being explicit. Without spoiling the end, it was a pity that I figured out that part long before the end. Nevertheless, I think this story could be a charming movie rom-com.

This book is easy to read but I found the story not very insteresting.
It's easy to know how it will end and the isn't lot of suspense
I'm sure that I won't even remember the story in a few months....

The Hating Game, by Sally Thorne, was a book I wanted to read based on all the hype it has received. However, it quickly became a prime example of why you should not always believe the hype.

I found the characters of Josh and Lucy to be immature, irritating and their actions somewhat creepy. I struggled to warm to either character, and the moments I did were fleeting. I found the narrative of Lucy to be particularly annoying.

The storyline has many red flags and examples of a toxic relationship. Yet, it is all passed off as some kind of twisted game in the name of love.

I enjoyed the last third of the book most, once the story seemed to pick up some pace, and their relationship matured ever-so-slightly.

I guess I just found the book to be quite cringy and unrelatable. Lucy and Josh are supposed to be successful, intelligent, fully-grown adults, and their behaviour does not correlate to this.

I wouldn’t say that I hated the book, but it was definitely not one for me.

Boring and no story

I tried to read this before and gave up at 30% because it was really silly and most importantly, there was no story. I saw a review where someone raved about this book so I decided to give it another go. This time I made it to the end (just) but - there was still no story. Yes, there were funny moments but where was the plot?

You could guess the very few events that did happen, the revelations (not really very much at all) and the outcome coming a mile off but the supposedly big driver of the plot as to whether she got the job, we never find out. And it was all building to something happening at the strawberry farm which then never happened.

I agree with other reviewers that the sex scenes went on too long, that the descriptions were super repetitive, that his fit body made it sound as if the heroine was objectifying him continually. I found it way too long, boring, and I had to force myself to finish it. Lucy was very irritating and read like a teenager instead of a professional grown woman. She was clingy and childish and I could not believe that a man like Josh would find her attractive when she was going around sniffing his chest hair or whatever it was. And do they get paid for doing nothing at a publishing company? I found it hard to understand what Lucy and Josh actually did in the office all day other than stare at each other.

I'm not sure what I think about the writing. I agree with another reviewer who said it was hard to work out who was speaking at times as there were few dialogue tags and it was formatted in such a way as to make it unclear. Some of the descriptions and similes made me scratch my head because they were a bit odd. The descriptions didn't give me the feeling that I'm sure the author was going for. I came away with the impression that Lucy was just weird - hanging off him like a two year old, sniffing his suit in the sunlight, and loving the smell of his sweat etc.

Not sure why everyone was raving about this book because it was so long winded that by the end, I was desperate for it to finish.

Not the new Sophie Kinsella

The description says Sophie Kinsella and it is far from that. It seemed more like a knock off Fifty Shades.

I only made it 30% before I stopped reading. I'm sure this kind of book has it's appeal, but it wasn't what I fancied reading today.

I didn't connect to any of the characters. It very rare I leave a book unfinished but it just wasn't that interesting and no one was very likeable.

This definitely is an overhyped book. I almost thought I was reading something else, because I just dint find it funny,rather immature. Definitely not worth it, glad I paid only 99p for it. It's actually two beautiful neurotic people fall in love. The guy is every woman’s version of the perfect man & doesn’t resemble any man you’ll ever meet in real life. Also how many ways can you describe short? Read this book to find the thousand ways to keep reiterating the heroine is petite, as if it’s some terminal disease & not just height.🙄 Oh and , constant thoughts about Joshua’s ‘masculine architecture’. Disappointed

Incredibly Overhyped.

This book is incredibly over hyped and over rated in my opinion.
There's no hate , it's more like a work rivalry - then the last couple of chapters are sickly sweet.
I read a few reviews that said there was too much sex or that it was too smutty - not sure what they have been reading, there was a couple of kissing paragraphs and one very boring, vanilla sex couple of paragraphs.
I have given two stars because I did finish reading it but that may be because I'm not at work at the moment and have a bit more time on my hands.

A book that by the end, I was willing it to end.
Entirely predictable, no part of the story was a revelation, and the main character Lucy is incredibly annoying.
The snippets of conversation during the sex scenes read like they've been written by a teenager.
I'm aware the 'games' are what the story is supposedly based around, but the constant mention of them becomes very tired, very quickly.

I felt like losing myself in a nice light romance and having read some of the amazing reviews for this book, it sounded perfect. How wrong I was, it started off badly and just turned into an overly long and boring 'Mills and Boon' type romance. Pages and pages of her lusting after his beautiful body, with nothing really to stop them getting together anyway. I struggled on until the end, sure that there had to be more to it, but sadly no, what a waste of my time. Don't bother!

I started off really enjoying this book, it sets up the characters well for the perfect love-to-hate romance. It then becomes apparent the author can’t build any suspense and suddenly the book becomes just constant thoughts about Joshua’s ‘masculine architecture’. There seems no reason they can’t be together or any problem they have to overcome, so reading pages after pages about how much she wants him is starting to get grating. I feel like there is potential with this book, but I wouldn’t recommend investing time into it.

Meh, I do not get the hype of this book at all. I hated the constant physical descriptions of both parties “I’m so small and cute and small and weak” and the guy is like “I’m so tall and muscular and kindly and did I mention tall”. The characters annoyed me but I would still read it if I were on vacation and they had it in the shelf.

I can't understand why this book is so over rated. This book was highly recommended so I gave it a shot. What an utter bore and so over rated. Its boring, silly and not even funny. Pity!
