I like the Walsh series books. It’s comforting how they all find their HEAs after their awful childhood.
The only thing I’m not a fan of is that I feel that sometimes there is too much of an ellipse or blur around said childhood. I know it’s a choice of the author and not laziness or lack of depth but it feels like it to me while reading. It’s the same with the whole series and that’s why I like it but don’t love it.

Shannon and Will were much more fun than I would have thought they were gong to be. Many laugh out loud moments!!

I enjoyed the fact that this wasn't your typical romance formula. While yes there was the meet up, early stages, rough patch and make up, it was done in a way that was quite different.

Shannon is incredibly feisty and Will has a drive and patience to impress anyone, not to mention some very creepy commando tactics!! But these two are just what the other needs, someone who won't back down but also knows how to step back when necessary. Loved the limes, LOL.

All the text message strings were amazing, the ones between Shannon and Will had some great one liners, but also the message strings between Shannon and her brother Patrick DURING meeting had me cracking up.

Loving this series. The seem to be getting better with each one. Now back to Sam and Tiel in the next book.

Shannon and Will. Two individuals that are used to giving orders and busting ass. The thing that I love the most about this couple is that they are so freaking similar and you would think with personalities like theirs it wouldn’t work. But it does. It so very much does in the funniest, sexiest, dirtiest & sweetest ways. Will is more than willing and capable to take on the Independent and ball-busting Shannon Walsh. I love them together

I laughed a lot with this book. The entire Walsh family is a ton of fun to hang around but the text messages between Shannon & Will are my favorite. I would also love to take a moment to thank Kate Canterbary for adding this element to the book, it brought modern realism to the story. Text messaging is a big part of relationships these days and can be pretty damn sexy and sweet. Shannon and Will prove it.

There was a part around 57% that I thought for sure the big fall out was going to happen. You know, that part of the story the rips apart the couple you just invested a few hours into getting them together. The part that makes me hurt as much as the characters do and then puts my heart back together. I was preparing myself for it. Expecting it, but it never really happened with Will and Shannon. That is not to say they had some issues to overcome but it wasn’t a deep pit of despair fall. It was a mature not-really-sure-where-this-is-going-but-I-know-where-I-want-it-to-go sort of deal.

The Cornerstone is the second book in The Walshes series that I have read, but officially the fourth book of the series. There are four total {so far} and I can tell you right now that I will be reading the others. Now, I am a rebel and have not been reading them in order. I started with The Space Between, which is Patrick and Andy’s story and the second book of the series. Each book in the series is a stand alone, they just have connecting characters. I think the next couple I read about is going to be Sam and Tiel in Necessary Restorations. A lot of Sam and Tiel’s story happens in the background of The Cornerstone and I am really interested in knowing their full story.

It takes real talent and skill to create a series that book after book just keeps getting better and better.

After the death of her mother at a young age, and left with an alcoholic father, Shannon Walsh had no choice but to become the cornerstone of her family, that one brick that holds the rest together.

Smart, strong-willed and as tough as nails, Shannon is a force to be reckoned with. She runs her life, her family and their business with complete dedication and a serious set of balls.

So what kind of man could possibly keep up with the fiery redhead and get her to submit?

Will is a big, sexy Navy Seal who is back in the US to attend the wedding of his sister Lauren. For those of you who haven’t read book one in the Walsh series, Underneath It All, Lauren is getting married to Matt Walsh, Shannon’s brother. At the wedding Will and Shannon are forced together where insults are thrown and sparks fly. It all leads to a wild night with multiple orgasms and lots of broken hotel room furniture.

When one night isn’t enough, Shannon and Will begin a secret “relationship” away from their families. But even beyond the amazing sex and chemistry things between them are not without its problems. Shannon inability to give up control, conflict between the Walsh sibling and Will’s time away at work with the Seals all add drama and conflict that provides depth and balance to the story.

Well written and entertaining, The Cornerstone really had everything I wanted from Shannon’s book. The insults and witty quips had me smiling throughout the entire book. The power struggle between Shannon and Will was just as much of a turn on as the actual sex. It was all so deliciously wonderful. My ultimate porn would be to grab a tub of popcorn, sit back and watch the verbal sarcasm fly. And the texting! I laughed out loud, I got a little hot and I fell even further into smiley-happy-adorable-love with this fictional couple.

If you haven’t checked out this series you seriously need to get on it right now. I adore the Walsh family and I can’t wait for more from Kate Canterbary.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles The Most Complex and Emotional Story Of The Series

Ms. Canterbary is a good writer and a good storyteller. There are some editing gaffes in her books, and some out of sequence glitches that a competent editor should have caught. But outside of those few mistakes, her stories read well.

I enjoyed the psychological complexity of The Cornerstone (such a great title). Her brothers were not using Shannon because they were lazy but because of the survival skills they'd developed dealing with their dysfunctional family all these years. For all intents and purposes, Shannon had been their mother. It's not any easy job to just abandon simply because someone has matured. And because the majority of the family are males, there wasn't a lot of Dr. Phil moments to discuss their changing roles.

And, that's why there are romance novels that we devour. We read how these men, who allowed Shannon to keep her role in their family, meet their women and accept the changes that come with it. They weren't purposefully mean, just carelessly unobservant.

Will was exactly what Shannon needed, a strong take charge man, secure in his own skin, who would be able to recognize her role, accept her boundaries and take care of her. He was right when he said he needed to be invited into her world; she'd never tolerate anything else.

The hot and heavy sex...? Some people are going to like it, some aren't. Some well see it as abusive and some won't. Our experiences mold our perceptions. I felt it was hot and appropriate. That's my opinion. It's not something I'm going to shove down anyone else's throats.

The writing was tight, despite some gaffes, the characters do come alive for me, and the dialogues all ring authentic. I wasn't delighted having to re-read parts from book 3, but I understood the reason for it.

I'm excited to continue reading this talented author.

I liked Shannon and Will's story. You get a better understanding of their family dynamic. Gotta say, this is the last 9f the Halsted family member and I really like their story. Parents did a great job on their children. We know that the Walsh comes from a broken family to put mildly so we understand why they are the way they are but also it doesn't excuse their behavior. Shannon is a little too much but has great intentions. I like that you see growth in her throughout the story. With Will and Shannon both strong headed/mind, it was nice finding compromise and middle ground between the two. Good story.

The texting in the book is quite confusing at times... It is written without any indentation (often without punctuation, too), only with the name of the person who typed at the beginning of each new line with a colon. The next person who texts has their name on the left, on a new line, but again with no indentation. If the texting was only a few words, this would be fine. However, some of it is several sentences or lines, none of which is indented, & sometimes this goes on for entire pages (& at times entire chapters) at a time. It becomes easy to get lost as to who said what or who is speaking here...

The first part of the book (set in the past) was quite interesting. The second part of the book wasn’t as engaging.

Sometimes Shannon seemed a bit too annoying for me... She refused to talk to Will for days at a time (despite how he was living with her), & she even yelled at her assistant for not having spare underwear at work, just because she was in a bad mood & needed to let some frustration out. Will was also annoying, as he refused to answer any basic question she asked him (& he doesn’t even share the fact that he was hurt in his last deployment). They would both get into arguments (sometimes they threw things at each other) instead of talking. Yet sometimes they would sleep together. It seemed quite immature, really.

Their big declaration of love was after Shannon found out Will had been hiding a lot from her, as much as she had, which in itself was strange.

I did love the proposal, though, which mentioned citrus throwing...

I loved this story about Shannon. So much of her past resonated with me. Finding Will, a navy seal with his inherent strength and goodness was exactly what she needed. Sharing a past is life changing, you need to find the right one to help you grow and be stronger. Yes, great understanding here. Thank you Kate.

The Cornerstone is my favourite so far in the Walsh series. Shannon and Will had such great chemistry, banter, and so much snarkiness between them. I knew these 2 were going to get their HEA, but there were moments in The Cornerstone that had me a little anxious as to whether it was really going to happen for them.

Will is also my favourite guy so far in the series. He's a take charge kind of guy, and he also didn't give up on Shannon, even when she made it hard for him. She was his person, and he was determined to make her see that. The epilogue was SO sweet, Shannon's history was deeper than I was expecting, so to see her happy, content, completely in love and settled was awesome. As usual the 2 narrators for this series were once again fab.

4.0-4.5 stars and a big THANKS to reader friend Michelle whose review for this bk had me 1-clicking this series. So glad I started with this family in bk 1 to allow this squabbling, loving, close knit, dysfunctional family the time to grow on me and become fully invested in this series.

Snippy, controlling little Shannon wasn't my favorite, it took a little too long for her to thaw out her feelings for Will that we could all tell were just below the surface. However, the little tidbit the author let slip about her past was a surprising gut punch and I had to cut her some slack.

Absolutely adored Will, he's perfect for Shannon. And while I'm thankful I started this series with 4 bks released I'm not so happy that this bk ended with its HFN ending hanging out there with me anxiously waiting for more Will/Shannon. Couldn't the author have given us the outcome of 2 more freaking months?!? Sigh, we'll just need that bk 5 pretty damn quick. Can't wait, guessing it's Erin and Nick's turn although it's goofy Riley's bk I'm most looking forward to.
