J'ai dévoré l'histoire de Matteo et de Gianna. J'ai adoré ces 2 personnages au tempérament fougueux.
"Bound by Hatred", c'est le 3eme opus après "Bound by Honor" (Aria et Luca) et "Bound by Duty" (Dante et Valentina).
Je l'ai lu tout de suite après "Bound By Duty" mais avant "Bound by Honor" car le synopsis sur cette héroïne rebelle et voulant échapper à un destin tout tracé m'a tout de suite intriguée.
Et je ne regrette absolument pas ma lecture...
Contrairement aux 2 premiers tomes, on a le point de vue des 2 protagonistes et du coup, on accroche plus vite à l'intrigue et aux personnages.
J'avais eu un peu de mal avec Aria au début. On n'avait que son point de vue mais elle était un peu en retrait.

L'histoire de "Bound by Hatred" peut se résumer ainsi: Matteo et Gianna appartiennent tous deux à 2 familles mafieuses rivales. Quand Gianna voit sa soeur Aria épouser contre son gré Luca, fils aîné de la famille rivale et un homme qu'elle ne connaît pas, elle s'est jurée de ne pas connaître le même sort. Elle aspire à vivre une vie normale, à être libre. Mais lorsque Matteo, le frère cadet de Luca pose les yeux sur Gianna, il se met en tête de l'épouser...Gianna éprouve certe du désir pour Matteo mais il incarne tout ce qu'elle déteste chez les hommes de sa famille. Elle repousse ses avances et fait tout pour annuler ce projet de mariage mais rien n'y fait. Les fiançailles ont lieu mais quelques mois avant le mariage, Gianna parvient à échapper à ses gardes et s'enfuit en Europe...

Étant moi même éprise de liberté, je me suis un peu reconnue dans le personnage de Gianna. Mais elle se rend compte que sa liberté a un prix, car elle est obligée de bouger d'endroits pour échapper à Matteo et aux hommes de son père. Elle ne peut donc pas vraiment tisser de liens et ne peut pas vivre normalement.
Gianna a un caractère bien trempé, j'ai aimé qu'elle tienne tête à Matteo. Elle est parfois naïve et vue comme quelqu'un d'egoiste mais elle veut juste vivre sa vie, de ne pas être enfermée dans une cage dorée. Elle sait que c'est ce qui l'attend si elle se marie avec Matteo.
Je suis tombée sous le charme de Matteo. Malgré son impulsivité, ses coups de folie (lorsqu'il tue brusquement un homme qui avait tenté d'agresser Gianna), malgré sa détermination à épouser Gianna, c'est un vrai charmeur et il prend vraiment soin de Gianna... on comprend qu'il l'aime vraiment...
Les scènes érotiques sont très bien écrites, très sensuelles, elles font bien vibrer.
J'ai adoré leurs réparties, toutes leurs scènes ainsi que les scènes entre les 2 frères quand Matteo fait une connerie, ^^ Luca est là pour essayer de l'aider... ou bien les moments entre les 2 soeurs.

Par contre, j'ai détesté Luca dans ce livre. Je l'ai trouvé dur avec Gianna.
Parce qu'elle ne se laisse pas faire, et aspire à être libre, elle est toute de suite cataloguée comme quelqu'un d'egoiste et qui fait souffrir Matteo... mais ce n'est pas comme si elle avait eu le choix. Elle est tiraillée entre ce qu'elle ressent pour Matteo, et son envie de vivre sa vie comme elle l'entend.
D'ailleurs, j'ai été un peu déçue par la fin, concernant Gianna et puis l'attitude de Luca.
Mais ça ne m'a pas gâché mon plaisir.
Et Matteo et Gianna me manquent déjà beaucoup...
C'est une romance que je relirai volontiers...
Genre: Romance pour adulte. Mais assez soft par rapport à la romance "dark", pas de BDSM.

I am officially OBSESSED with this series. I have to admit that I liked Bound by Hatred a bit less mostly because I didn't connect with Gianna that much. Yes, I liked her sass, but she was so stubborn and childish at times, ugh. However, Matteo. Oh my god, how I love him.

I genuinely cannot wait to read more about them all.

Birds of a feather stick together... Everything is said ! Gianna and Matteo are really alike : hotheaded, passionate and breakers of rules. Gianna can deny it but she fell for him at the first kiss !! Matteo is loyal, warm and funny. The most human hero from the three books. Probably because he's not a Capo so he doesn't need to keep the mask all the time. I really like to have his point of view. Maybe it's why he seems more human than Luca or Dante (?). We clearly know that he fell in love with Gianna and despite his selfishness try to do his best to make her happy. He's even ready to let her go... Really I have a big affection for him !
I'm just a little bit disappointed by the end of the book... Seems that for love, Gianna became all she hates (waiting for her husband, shopping, warming the bed...) In the next book, I really hope to find Gianna with a job or something like Valentina because if not, it's definitively not her ! She's not a trophy wife !^^ Love doesn't mean you have to betray yourself...

Gianna and Matteo are attracted to one another. Gianna hates the Mafia world she lives in and wants to make her own decisions. Matteo is a hunter and when he wants something he usually own it. He wants Gianna. The hardest thing in life is having to deal with feelings you don't understand. When you feel something that is initially everything you were against. The girl who runaway is being catch and forced to marry a handsome, crazy psychotic hunter. She hates that she have feelings for him. He hates that she wants nothing to do with him. Matteo is a lot deeper than his funny easygoing person he puts out. He really loves Gianna and wants to show her that they can be good together. After a lot of months trying to push him back, Gianna will have to face the reality of life. The Born in Blood series continues.

I have to admit this is not my favourite out of all the books but I still really enjoyed it. I couldn't related to the Gianna as much as I could with the other heroines therefore I had a hard time getting in the story. But once I was it was really nice to read. Gianna is a very hotheaded woman and she knows what she wants but also what she doesn't want. Mateo is hilarious, multiple times through the book he made me laugh. The do make a really nice couple because they have very similar personalities. The storytelling as always with Cora is amazing. She just has the best way to keep you captive from the first to the last moment. I do recommend !!!

This was Matteo and Gianna’s story we met both in previous books and it was obvious from the get-go that their road to happiness was not going to an easy one with lots of bumps in the road mostly because of Gianna.

Matteo had fixated on having her as his wife despite her objections and this being the mafia world Gianna being a woman has little control over her future.
She takes the law into her own hands and runs even knowing the consequences if she’s caught.
Naturally, Matteo gives chase she didn’t really stand a chance and she finds herself hauled back home and married anyway.

So I adored Matteo he’s one of a kind and a complete loose cannon. He’s protective and easygoing on the surface but underneath he’s just as brutal and ruthless as his brother maybe even more so because he wears a mask concealing his hidden monster.

He was patience personified with Gianna despite whatever she throws at him he only cares for her more because of it.
He likes her just the way she is and sees something in her that others don’t and he also doesn’t want her to change either.

I felt Gianna was being stubborn just for the sake of pride and did find her somewhat childish.
Her behaviour at times bordering on a tantrum and she has absolutely no sense of self-preservation and can even be a lot selfish.
As much as she professes to adore her sister it almost seems that at times she looks down on her for accepting her place in this world.

I personally think that shows more of a sense of maturity and consideration Aria thinks before she acts and considers how her actions will affect others with Gianna it’s all about her which sometimes made me dislike her a bit.
Her snarky attitude could sometimes get a bit much.

But despite that I did enjoy this mostly for Matteo he is what sold this for me I loved him in all his psychotic glory.
His protectiveness with Gianna despite her actions only sealed the deal for me.

As for Gianna’s parents what a waste of space her father is bloody awful and her mother is just so passive, it’s unreal it makes you wonder where Gianna got her backbone from it’s certainly not dear old mum that’s for sure.

Loved the character dynamics, but the pace let it down

Bound by Hatred is the third book in the Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles, an adult romance series that follows a different couple each time. This time was Matteo and Gianna's turn which I have been really looking forward to because I've always thought that they had such an interesting dynamic. I loved getting to see the way that the two characters bounce off of one another, and could not stop reading. We even got to see Matteo's POV as well as Gianna's which was extra special as I adore split POVs, especially in romance. The problem I had with the book, which resulted in it getting three stars rather than four, was that I felt the pace was really off. We see a lot of the first book from Matteo and Gianna's POVs which I would have cut completely as it was not needed here. The ending also felt a little rushed, as though the author wanted to keep toa particular page number, rather than exceeding it. Overall, I really enjoyed this one, despite the pacing, and know that I will look forward to re-reading it one day.

What I liked…

Gianna was amazing the fact that she left, even though she knew what it would mean, and tried to carve out a life for herself was impressive.

The sparks between Gianna and Matteo were great, you knew from previous books that there was some fiery chemistry between them but it was great to see it play out in this book.

How Matteo stuck up for Gianna through all the nasty comments and actions, I mean he could have maybe done more but the fact that he did try occasionally counts for something.

What I didn’t like…

Obviously the reaction from Gianna’s family and the things they said about her just because she wanted to be independent, then also how men subsequently treated her was disgusting, I know it’s probably true to how that kind of family would be but it’s still horrible to think that she had to suffer that kind of abuse because she wanted a free life.

Summary…

I was looking forward to this book and thankfully it didn’t disappoint, it kept up the action from book two and there was a lot of fire between Gianna and Matteo which meant I was hooked.

This was a slow burn romance story. There was so much that I disliked about Gianna Scuderi. Gianna was stubborn, childish, bitchy, stuck up and hated everything about her family life in the Mafia. You’d think that at 17 she would have realised that there was no way out other than death. Matteo Vitiello was a Made Man, had been for some years, even though still young, he was known as “The Blade”and was known to be unstable and had a temper in the New York Famiglia. Unfortunately for Gianna her constant dislike and bitchiness had caught his attention and he wanted her as his wife. An enjoyable story with some angst, some funny moments and lots of hot sexy scenes.

Being first introduced to Gianna, the rebellious younger sister of Aria, she captured my attention especially with the sexual-innuendo filled banter she had with Luca’s younger brother Matteo “The Shark” Vitiello. Having tempted fate and Matteo, she is promised to him in marriage despite her constant refusal and attempts to fight the bond.

In this book we get to see a completely different side to Matteo, where he is the one who tries his best to make Gianna happy and fall in love with him. He is fiercely protective but equally as loving and tender towards her, completely heart-warming and easily loveable. He is an easy-going guy with a hilarious sense of humour, his charismatic nature and impeccable looks helps him score with the ladies, but Gianna is left unbothered.

Whereas Gianna is stubborn and resentful as she simply wishes for a simple life with independence and freedom that she has never experienced growing up inside of a golden cage, she has an explosive personality which draws Matteo to her similar to how a moth is drawn to the flame. Where she was incredibly desperate for freedom from this dangerous world, she herself was unaware of when she fell in love with Matteo. He on the other had truly won my heart because of his determination of believing that Gianna would fall in love with him, enough to stay by his side. The strong chemistry between the two was undeniable no matter how stubborn they both were and the banter between them made my heart long for Gianna to fully accept him. Their love was passionate and fiery, like Gianna's willpower and Matteo's temper. Matteo was persistent in his pursuit of Gianna and left no stone unturned whilst searching for her after she escaped under the watchful eye of the bodyguards assigned to watch over her.

Her stubbornness and eagerness to escape the mob life prevents her from admitting her true feelings for Matteo until its nearly too late which leads to a long-awaited confession which I was desperate for as these two are perfect for each other. Gianna is starkly different from the other women we have been introduced to from this world as she does not wish to settle and make her marriage work, which can be frustrating to see at times as she constantly fights with Matteo even when things are goof between them, but she wouldn’t be her strong-willed self if she allowed sex and a nice apartment to sway her mindset overnight which is why I respect her character.

The fiery chemistry between these two throughout the book is electric and magnifying, the more they push each other the sexier and hotter the outcome is. This book redefines and highlights the best angsty fights and then makeup sex, I simple cannot get enough of Matteo and Gianna. This is the ultimate hate-to-love mafia story out there, filled with the right amount of drama, suspense and steaminess; another must read.
