Great story line ideas but writing style odd

The story line and characters were really appealing but the writing felt very two-dimensional and superficial. It lacked any emotional depth (and I agree the proof reading and editing was lacking)

Connor and Ellery and their individual personal complexities could have made for a really gripping read that lasted well over three books but it just didn't happen. Aspects of their characters were mentioned but not explored in any great depth. Events were often written as 'they went there, did that and went home' without any exploration of impacts on each other, feelings, ramifications etc. The ending was positively rushed - the passage of months within a few pages? Even other side characters flitted in and out with little character development.

The fact that book 2 is a rehash of the same story from Connor's perspective would have been disappointing if it hadn't actually been a better read than book 1, at least initially, giving more exploration of feelings and thoughts, but unfortunately even that tailed off by half way through.

A good idea story and likeable characters for sure but the author's writing style for a storyline of this sort intended as a trilogy needs a heck of a lot of development if readers aren't to feel that they've eaten a fresh-air sandwich at the end; empty and still hungry.

Read through on holiday, so fairly speedy read.
I found it good in parts, but annoying in other areas.
The way that Elle and Connor kept walking in and out of each others lives.
The way that one minute he has told her he has sworn off women/relationships forever, the next they are pronouncing unrequited love to each other, and Elle telling him that he is her forever.
It feels like the author threw everything into this book, so many topics covered, that only the kitchen sink was missing.
Honestly, it does mirror similar books of this genre, I will still get the sequel though!

Really wanted to like this book especially based on the reviews but it just didn't hit the mark for me. Potentially a really good story but the writing didn't flow conversations felt wooden, immature and without the natural flow making it difficult to really buy into the characters, plot or story. There were times i was cringing whilst reading conversations, the writing just tried too hard to sound remotely realistic and i really didn't fall in love with the selfish drama queen Ellery. I agree with other reviews the story was emotional but that was due to the subject matter rather than the content.

I read a lot but really sorry to say I have struggled to finish this, however i would try another book by this author in the future as the story was there so hope after this first book the delivery will only get better.

This was a good book with a nice storyline. It had a few bits I felt were pointless like him sleeping around all the time with his crazy rules which was only mention once.

Elle I found was a hard character to like as I thought no body would act the way she does. Con nor was mainly just a prick, who was insensitive and unique didn't feel as though his secret was that dramatic.

Teens would the the simplicity of this book, cause it is not that well written.

Another tortured billionaire redeemed by love story.
This also featured a sassy, independent female with her own issues.
From the blurb I was expecting to love this but I'm afraid I didn't connect with the characters and the writing style jarred with me - it felt kind of stilted and awkward.
I see from the reviews that I'm in the minority and plenty of people loved this, but it just didn't work for me.
Abigail Barnette's The Girlfriend deals with this topic more sensitively and plausibly I think - perhaps if I hadn't read that first I'd have a different view, but I couldn't help comparing the two books as I was reading and this fell short in every way.

From a story point of view, I really enjoyed this book, it made me smile and cry (a lot). I liked the characters, others have given negative reviews about the heroine being bratty and selfish but isn't that what some people are like in reality?

There were quite a lot of mistakes from a grammar and phrasing point of view but the worst thing for me was the ending...... it was so rushed and there could have been a lot more explanation there.

Will I read the others, possibly although the ending has put me off somewhat. There are worse ways to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon though.

I have a very mixed feelings about this book. First it was annoying me that on every page (literally) someone was rolling their eyes. Then the book was quite interesting and I really enjoyed it. And all of a sudden the main characters started behaving like some crazy idiots and the story got annoying again. The book was all right but I have deleted it from my kindle and won't be coming back to it.

This is my first ever book review, and the reason I felt compelled to write it was not because I did not enjoy the book, however I felt there was a great deal of 'borrowing' from other books that I have recently read; like Gabriel's Inferno which creeps in within chapters 4 - 6 and there are echoes of the Edge of Never. I was disappointed that the potential dominant male character turns out to be a damp squib. Having said this I felt compelled to read to the end, and being sentimental shed a tear along the way, but really a reversed vasectomy and cancer treatment that works in an epilogue need I say more.....

After reading the Shades of Grey books,Stark trilogy and working my way through the Crossfire Series I'd come to expect similar in this book. I'm sad to say it failed to meet expectations. Don't get me wrong it certainly held much promise but lacked depth and is written in such a basic rushed way. I found its style very immature and the descriptive writing rushed and at times I felt I was reading one of my Daughters English essays. I never say never and each to their own but I sadly won't be recommending this book to others.

I only got into this book when I passed the half way mark. There was no chemistry between Ellery and Conor up to this point but I kept reading because I was intrigued to see if sparks would ever fly, but they didn't. The main characters were believable enough, full of anger and always presuming stuff about the other person. The main thing that dragged the book down was the language....it was very flat and lifeless; it was like reading a list of things Ellery did every day.
I think the novel is overpriced for what it is.
