Book physical size is too small for comfortable reading.

The content of this book is priceless. It is truly a masterclass in UX design and processes and provides a rich toolset derived from the author's years of experience in some of the leading UX shops on the planet.

However, the physical size of the book makes it uncomfortable to read the copy, and close to impossible to decipher the illustrations. I don't have vision issues - but many illustrations have type at around 5 point size and sometimes smaller. My hypothesis is the book was intended for a larger format but printed smaller for financial reasons.

I am returning the printed copy and buying the printed + electronic copy from Rosenfeld media directly so that I can read it on a large screen.

Also, I recommend finding and watching the author's talks - Leah is a polished speaker and generously shares her tools and approaches.

This book was EXACTLY what myself and my organization needed. I can't believe I found it recommended on Tiktok! I'm currently the only UX designer in a small start-up minded company and me, my product owner team, and the rest of the company are committed to making our internal programs easier for our sale and operations people to use.

I admit, I was feeling quite daunted and having intense Imposter Syndrome at this role at first. I was constantly questioning whether I was doing the right things, making the right meetings, involving the right people and analytics tools. I'm only on chapter 4 of this book and it has undeniably confirmed that I in fact, am on the right path! It's been a huge relief, and I cannot wait to have my PO team read it!

Like it says within, it's a great book for a more seasoned UX designer like myself, and also for people more new to the process (my company and team). I feel so lucky to have found the perfect tool all in one to teach UX to all I work with.

I just started a new role where I’m the only designer in the team. As a newbie this has been daunting but this book has honestly helped me with my methodologies and knowledge. It’s like a UX Bible, I strongly recommend for newbies like myself

Extrem hilfreich.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles If you only do one thing.....
Commenté aux États-Unis 🇺🇸 le 23 avril 2018

UX, while less new than many thing, is still a field where it feels really hard to grasp the basic concepts and get a good overview of what the field has to offer. This can be incredibly frustrating for newbies getting into the field (I fall in the first category), experienced UX designers attempting to get others onboard, and UX skeptics who don't understand the value or resources needed for the field.

As someone who wanted to get a better idea of the field for a career change, I was looking for a book that would provide a comprehensive overview of the UX field, especially since many places don't have an established UX system. For me, the User Experience Team of One was exactly the resource I was looking for. It provided and overview of the field, ways to advance personally and professionally, and most important - it also talked about how to advocate within your role if you are the sole UX Designer in an organization.

The main chapters which talk about design, research, and testing methodologies among other topics, also provide helpful tips for remote workers, ways that you can bring your coworkers into the UX design process, and a "if you only do one thing" section for the time-pressed professional.

I took off one star due to the fact that the book unfortunately is very small, leading to many of the images being incredibly tiny and hard to read. It makes a nice, light book for my train ride, but hard to read in practice.

Overall, if you only do one thing when trying to get an overview of UX.... read this book.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles The best book, ever.

Now I won’t lie, I am starting off in the field of UX and am in the process of finalizing my first iteration of my portfolio. With some tools under my belt from school, and this book, I feel confident to start at a new job.

What I love about this book is that it is laid out like a cook book full of recipes, except this one tells you WHEN and WHY you should do each UX method, in a easily-glanceable couple pages.

I know for a fact I will keep this book wherever I go when I become employed. Junior or senior, I think anyone can benefit from this book - even those just gaining interest in UX. With so many methods and terminology, this book has it all in one place, easily accessible for anyone.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Great resource for wannabe UX designers!
Commenté aux États-Unis 🇺🇸 le 2 novembre 2013

I mean "wannabe" in the best possible way...This book is perfect for web and interface designers, developers, project managers who feel drawn to UX design -- anyone who knows deep down they need to be designing from a user-centric point of view and needs to bring the rest of the team a long.

The book can be read cover to cover, or dipped into as-needed to grab useful methods. For each method the author describes the best context to use it in, what the process is, how long it should take, etc. The methods are generally informal, and are sometimes lighter-weight versions of methods that might be used in larger organizations with well-established UX processes (such as "proto-personas" rather than fully-formed user personas).

One shortcoming of this book is the lack of methods related to information architecture. I expected to see card sorting or card sorting "lite" or something to help plan navigation and information hierarchy.

Besides that omission though, this is an excellent resource, which I plan to rely on heavily in my first UX design project.

Please look up my full review on the Web Designers' Review of Books if you're interested.

Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

This book has some sterling advice, clearly based on real experiences and provides practical solutions to the aspiring UX practitioner, as well as the more experienced professional.

Personally I found the practical tools the most helpful out of any book I've come across. Being able to apply good user experience techniques fits hand in hand with understanding the theories so having some real templates, guides and tools to get others involved in the process of user experience design is incredibly helpful.

Alongside the theories and tools, this book finally provides guidance and advice on getting others involved in the user experience process. These ideas and guides don't just apply if you're working on your own as a freelancer or contractor but work equally well if you're the only person in a team or organisation that seems user experience as something to care about.

Whether you're someone interested in learning more about user experience or already a practicing professional in the field, I highly recommend you get a copy of this book. It's worth more than it's weight in gold.
