3,0 sur 5 étoiles Could have cut half the book (at least) and it would have been fine

I used to love this series and now I kind of dread it! Of course I have to read every book to find out what happens at the end of the story, but it is getting to be a long slog for me personally. Nothing happens in this book until the end. And I'm currently reading book 8 and guess what? Nothing happens till the end (I've read 75% so far or something like that and things are just starting to get interesting). I'm thinking maybe I should just read the end of the 9th book. I thought there were only going to be 8, but no, there's another one coming, perhaps 2 or 3. I don't know and I'm starting not to care at this point.

It saddens me because I always looked forward to these books and now I'm scared to start reading one of them because it takes me a month to get through them. I like Geraldine, I really do, but I don't want to read chapters upon chapters of her POV, which is barely coherent and adds nothing to the overall story. Same with long suffering Seth, etc. The Seth/Caleb thing is too much. At this point the "romance", if you want to call it that, has been developing (I use this term for lack of a better word even though it doesn't really suit in this case) through 2 books and nothing has changed for the better or worse. It's taking up a lot of chapters and not moving anything along. I'm rooting for them, but good lord, this is just reader torture at this point. Anyway, I don't want to give away the farm but I will say that these later books need a dragon shifter editor, stat, to rip out half the pages of the books and set them on fire, never to be seen again.

I think these writers have put a ton of time and energy into this and they have imagined characters that we really came to love over the years, but a bigger book does not mean a better book and I am hoping they go back to mainly Darcy and Tory's POVs in the last book or books. If things keep meandering this way, I might have to say goodbye this series and make up what happens to Tory and Darcy in my head. Book 7 and Book 8 leave me feeling like I've wasted a lot of my time for not a lot of payoff.

3,0 sur 5 étoiles disappointing

I have loved this series so far
Unfortunately this book was overly long with tonnes of filler that was boring. Some characters are just getting irritating now
It was repetitive as well with the same conversations happening again and again and nothing else
Maybe they were trying to portray the Boredom of war but I don’t want to be bored reading a book and unfortunately I was.
The only saving Grace was the last 10/15% when something FINALLY happens
And some good chapters sprinkled in overall though I was disappointed and if it wasn’t the 7th book in a series I had loved to this point I would have DNFd it
I can only Hope the next book is better

3,0 sur 5 étoiles A huge disappointment

Okay. I think I’m done with the series. Yes there are still two more books to go, but this particular story was BORING and full of a whole bunch of side plots that I guess the authors wanted to tie up before granting us another battle at the end with a huge retreat where we feel like all hope is lost for our heroes.
Clearly we know everyone will regroup and happy endings for all.
My chief gripe about this book, it was about 85% filler, yes you can (and really should) just skip to the end. Mostly everything that we learned prior to the big unexpected battle was extremely predictable and it made me realize that a lot of the things the characters said had me scratching my head wondering how would they actually know any of these things that are prevalent in the mortal world.
Why would any of the Heirs know about cowboy stereotypes, Karens, or other mortal things if they’re all fae and rely on magic for just about everything? How were Atlas recordings and things of that nature survive/play out almost 30+ years after the fact? I’m guessing Atlas’s are devices that mimic smartphones but wouldn’t 30 years see tremendous improvements?

Lionel’s chapters seem pointless, you don’t actually need them to understand the plot. They don’t add to his character, they do introduce some tidbits of information that we otherwise wouldn’t know but I would trade than knowledge for all of his chapters because they’re skippable.

The battle scenes are drawn out and for some reason they just keep losing. I think the reason is more books.

Anyways, I want to see more happen, they’re really in the thick of it now not much more but completely losing the war can happen to them.

3,0 sur 5 étoiles I love this series, but this volume was a disappointment
Commenté aux États-Unis 🇺🇸 le 20 janvier 2023

As I said, I love this series. I give the previous volumes 5stars each. I can visualize this series more clearly than any other. Not going to reveal anything I would consider a spoiler. So don't fear.

But by far this volume is a disappointment. For some reason the writing takes a bit of a dive in this volume. In all the other volumes, I can clearly visualize and hear the characters. Their words and actions are authentic. But in this volume, they speak melodramatically. Saying things, they don't truly mean. Things that are completely outside of their established character.

There is a weird shift between the end of the previous volume and the beginning of this one. Only a short amount of time passes between them. Minutes. Hours. Yet it is like a switch flipped in some of the characters during that time. It feels unnatural given the gradual character growth and changes in previous volumes. More so given the short time period which is not fully written out.

A lot of my enjoyment of this volume was due to knowledge readers who also read their other series. Namely the one staring a lilac haired girl named Elise have. Some things just make more sense if you have read their other series.

There are some moments in this volume which do reach the quality level of previous volumes, but the quality is not consistent like in the previous volumes.

I am hoping the next volume lives up to the previous ones. That the characters feel authentic again. And stop being so unbelievably melodramatic.

I hope you the books and the authors keep writing.

Although the main storyline and ending of this book was good. It was also highly disappointing.

The side characters/stories detracted far too much. Important parts being lost. Like the sisters training and darcy’s progression.

Grus x 2 now and their insane language drove me nuts making me put the book down three times. And her progression went backwards from I’ll sleep with who I want to oh I have to marry Justin even thought I don’t want to cause I promised. When even her father says she doesn’t have to.

The Sofia triangle was badly done. From oh my boys I love them both but I can’t have both. Three seconds later oh wait they both want me after all.

Seth and Caleb need locking in a room together.

And the new shadow heir. All that build up for him to be killed straight away. Pointless.

3,0 sur 5 étoiles Conflicted!

I have enjoyed this series so far but I did struggle with this penultimate book.

I know it’s a long, dark story but I found myself a bit bored with it all. I had to force myself to continue reading as it was a bit blah and while there were a couple of instances of humour and joy, they were few and far between and didn’t move the story on at all.
There was hardly any balance with the good and the bad, and the bad stuff has gone on and on with little relief or hope!

There’s a LOT of filler in this book which I wouldn’t have minded, had it referenced the previous content - like what was the point of the zodiac guild? What was the point of the quest to find the gems other than a stupid hex being put on Seth? What about the 1st prophecy?
All of that was breezed over and it stalled the plot IMO.

I loved Geraldine in the first few books but her POV chapters were pointless and wow she became annoying!
The whole twins training thing was barely mentioned yet felt like it should be a huge thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m guessing that love has to be the answer to everything as it’s been drummed into us for practically the whole book - we understand how in love these lot are etc etc etc

Something else that really started to annoy me was the use of “as”. There was one sentence where it was used 3 times! There must be other ways to link a sentence together ladies!

I’ll read the final book just cos I’ve invested so much into this series but I really hope it wraps up well cos I currently feel like it’s just too dark for me.

This book was a good read but so much was left unanswered only to add more mystery to the mix. I was hoping to learn more about Lavinia and Lionel which still received very little development besides other characters POV of them.
The last prophecy is not really brought up, the curse was unnecessary and only adds more drama and toils for Lance which was also unnecessary.
Hoping the next book has less fluff. Overall happy with the series but very frustrated with this book

SPOILERS BELOW!!!!

MAN OH MAN. Had to take a long breather after finishing this book because it had me raging. If I wasn't reading on my kindle, I would have surely thrown the book at the wall. I'm torn between loving it and hating it, leaning towards hating it more though. But I'm going to leave an honest to god review because there were so many things I loved about it but also had issues with.

Darcy & Orion - I LOVED that we got to see more of their relationship in this book after everything that happened in the last. Their connection is so deep and can I say that their divine moment was just beautiful!! Had me feeling all gooey inside, only to rip that from me in the end. Darcys curse comes back to bite them and honestly, its really frustrating to see. I felt like the curse wasn't mentioned much during the book, and it was like Darcy was forgetting it even existed only for everything to come falling apart at the end. And the deal with the shadow princess? Come onnnnn. Haven't they had enough?

Tory & Darius- I'm still sobbing over this. Genuinely hurting like feeling SICK to my stomach and cannot function. I've been rooting for this couple to get their happy ending from the beginning, to get their mess together and they FINALLY do, only for THIS to happen. By the stars, this is where I'm so mad at the authors. This is not a character you kill off. And it makes me frustrated that I've spent HOURS AND DAYS reading this series for...this? Well, I really hope there is some way to bring him back or its another damn test of their fate and the stars gift Tory (that's a hard nudge to the authors).

Also, what happened with the stones? Orion rebuilding the Zodiac Guild? Felt like those were issues brought up in the beginning of the book but were never even dealt with. I know this was supposed to be the last book but it was the longest and yet, a lot of lose threads. And Lionel still freaking lives. Sigh. I'm genuinely tired and not sure if I'm going to bother reading the next book. No hate to the talented authors but many things to consider when writing the next one. Besides my thoughts and criticism, it was a good read and if you can handle being put through the wringer and stabbed in the heart multiple times then this book is for you.

This book was AGONY. 70% was not plot driven and instead was hours of endless fluff. All these characters are so jaded and have no communication skills. F that ending also.
