Suite de Caraval qui m’avait deja plonge dans ce monde féerique et énigmatique, ca fait longtemps qu'un livre ne m’avait autant enthousiasme.

I still cannot get over how good this book is first time around i loved it, second time around it's for sure one of my all time favourites! Tella is just such a fantastic character she's seriously such a brave and determined character and I couldn't get enough of her story, and the fact that the fates are in here too just made this all the more fantastic and slightly sinister.

I really loved Caraval even more upon re-read but everything about Legendary is just so much more, more magical, more mysterious, more dangerous and much more is at stake. I love Tella and Dante and I cannot wait to see how this will all end and I'm so intrigued to see more of the fates as they can only get more wicked. Beautifully written with a captivating story, this was just such a magical read.

After blitzing Caraval I needed to continue this series, and Legendary was just as amazingly awesome. It had drama, action, romance, intrigue and mystery and not to mention magic! It was everything a fantasy book lover craves.

The story focuses on Tella, and how she is searching for her mother. She enters another Caraval game, however rumours suggest that this time it may not just be a game of performance, but a game with real affects. With everything to play for including her life, Tella needs to be bold and make some tough decisions.

This book series is just incredible and it keeps on getting better! I cannot get enough of this fictional world and all of the characters that come with it. It is extremely well written, with lots of unexpected twists, and I am extremely excited to read Finale.

This series is perfect for all those who love fantasy books and want to read something that is pure escapism. You are guaranteed to get completely hooked and addicted.

I don’t want to say too much as I do not want to spoil or ruin this series for anyone, but give them a go!

Well I don't know what to believe anymore! Caraval was amazing and full of such wonder and magic but Legendary has stepped up a level into oblivion. Who knows what's actually real?

I loved how this book explored Caraval through Tella's eyes as she played the game this time instead, so different from her sister and compared to the Tella we saw in Caraval. The introduction of a new character, Jacks, was absolutely brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed reading his interactions with Tella. I didn't know what to make of Dante in this book and I still don't know.

I feel like I'm lost in a cloud of Caraval confusion and don't know who to trust anymore, but I'm so excited to read the third and final book and hopefully get some answers! It was great to get more of a back story on the two sisters and learn more about their mother.

It was exciting to read and I love the twists and turns the story took - pure spirit of Caraval!

The Caraval trilogy is quickly becoming my favourite book series ever. Full of magic, romance and plot twists, this trilogy ticks every box for me.

The second of the series was just as easy to read as the first book. I actually loved reading this book from Tella's perspective rather than Scarlett's. I definitely find Tella a more interesting and endearing character than Scar, who I found to be annoying and reliant and a definite "damsel in distress" which I'm not a fan of.

I loved exploring Tella and Dante's growing relationship even though it started off a bit possessive and toxic. By the end of the book I was fully rooting for them to be together forever and I'm not afraid to admit that I am now in love with Dante.

The plot of the book was quite similar to Caraval so you did kind of know what was going to happen, but that didn't stop me absolutely loving this book.

Magical, exciting, and a worthy sequel

This was one of my most eagerly awaited books of the year, and it didn't disappoint. The action in 'Legendary' picks up immediately where it's predecessor, 'Caraval', left off. You do need to read them in order, so go back and start with 'Caraval' if you've not already. It can be difficult to replicate the success of a book like 'Caraval', which was full of magic and wonder and a joy to read. But Garber has managed to continue the story just as strongly as she began it.

This book is told from the perspective of Tella Dragma ('Caraval' was from the perspective of her sister, Scarlett). I didn't like Tella very much in 'Caraval', and initially I felt frustrated that she was the point of view character and wanted to hear about Scarlett instead, however Tella quickly grew on me. She turns out to be a more complex and engaging character than her depiction in the first novel suggests. As in 'Caraval' there is a strong romance subplot that is well written and helps push the story along and keep the reader emotionally engaged. Readers needn't worry, Scarlett is still an important character and her storyline moves along too.

The plot once again revolves around 'Caraval' - a magical game run by the mysterious magician Legend. A special game has been organised for the Empress's birthday. Tella joins the game, but for her the stakes are much, much higher than the other players. Both her own life, and that of the mother who vanished seven years earlier, are at stake. There's also a bigger threat to the world at large in the form of the 'fates', powerful and malign beings who were defeated hundreds of years ago, but now are trying to return. The introduction of this storyline is clever and moves the story on from being just about a single game, giving it a bigger context which is essential for enabling the series to continue without becoming samey.

It's a great read, thoroughly enjoyable, with a gripping plot, likeable characters and a real sense of magic. It reminds me of the 'Night Circus' which had a similar way of creating a world of wonder that you don't often get to touch once you reach adulthood. There's plenty of excitement, emotion and twists and turns. It is a worthy successor to 'Caraval', and I cannot wait for the final book of the series.

My Review: I picked Legendary up immediately after I finished Caraval. I didn't even wait a day! I had loved Caraval so much that I simply couldn't wait to devour Legendary and see what happened next for the sisters, Scarlett and Donatella.

I was a bit surprised when I realised that the focus shifted to Donatella, and not Scarlett in the opening of the book. I was expecting to see Scarlett continue the journey and I found this a little jarring at first.

Once the story began to unfold though, I was intrigued by Jacks and Dante - both seemed delectable and devious. I wanted to find out more!

Tella's story is a similar rollercoaster of magic, mystery and Caraval-style deceit. Jacks and Dante make for an interesting dilemma for Tella, and there are some heated moments with both that do leave you liking both male characters.

Whilst reading this I had a 'forced break' as I had left my copy at work in the student library and had to wait several days before I could pick it up again. This dampened the experience a little for me, as I was just at a 'good bit' and all of the anticipation and tension had been allowed to ebb away. I wish that hadn't happened 😞.

I thought that Garber's ending was fabulous and has left me thirsty for the next instalment in this series. My thoughts about Legend are particularly exciting!

This was a 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read for me!

A Perfect and Magical Fantasy

In all honestly, Legendary can probably be read without reading the first in the series – as it’s a different sister’s perspective and Garber explains the events of the first book throughout – but please do not take that as an excuse because both are spectacular and magical.

Legendary shows us Donatella’s perspective as, this time round, she’s the one playing Legend’s infamous game. I adored her part in the ending to Caraval, when we had a glimpse into just how smart and brave she is, so I’m grateful that the whole book is from her point of view. She’s definitely one of the most interesting, multi-faceted characters I’ve read too – not quite good, but definitely not bad.

The whole story centres on Tella needing to win Caraval in order to find her long-lost mother. We see more of one of Legend’s players, Dante, as he’s trying to help Tella throughout. First up, we’re told from the beginning that it’s not just a game anymore, and a lot of additional lore is added into the mix (including another main character, which I’ll get to soon). But Dante. Dante is a smirking, tattooed, mysterious and funny character and his times with Tella were either heartbreaking adorable or the funniest parts of the book (I quite like Dante, in case that isn’t obvious).

Now, for the newbie, we’re introduced to Jacks who’s basically a cold-hearted, power hungry heir to the Elantine Empire. He’s definitely the villainous type, but at the same time I couldn’t help but like him a little? His head-to-heads with Tella were quick and sometimes also quite funny. There’s so much depth to his character too, Garber did a marvellous job at introducing him in the sequel but having him be as strong of a character as other main characters.

We don’t see as much of Scarlett and Julian in the book owing to the change in POV, but the bits we did see were pretty interesting. I probably would have missed them a lot but I loved Tella’s character, and I guess I got so engrossed in her side of the story that I didn’t really wonder about them as much. Scarlett develops a little through the book, she’s much braver following the events of Caraval and a part of me felt super proud of her by the end of Legendary.

When I read Caraval, I was excited for Legendary… but I didn’t imagine I’d love it even more than Caraval. And yet… here I am. I can’t wait for Finale.

She loved it. Caraval was my fave book so lent it to her so it was then her fave. So i bought legendary for her xmas and she loved it. I was hoping she'd maybe lend me it but keeps forgetting to bring it back from uni with her. She has finished it and loves it and cant wait for the next one. She doesnt lie either so if she didn't love it or was disapointed she'd be brutally honest so im definately looking forward to reading it myself. I think im just going to have to buy my own copy.

I was so excited to finally read the sequel to Caraval and it really did not disappoint!
At first I was skeptical when I found out that it wasn’t going to be in Scarlett’s point of view but Donatella’s as I found Tella quite immature in Caraval. But that is what is so great about Stephanie Garber, she is extremely good at her characterisations and making you believe what the character is feeling!
Reading it in Tella’s voice and seeing it from her point of view really justified her as a character! She is extremely fierce and a lot more clever than Scarlett thinks she is! Oh I loved this book, though I do think the clues were a lot easier to spot in this book than in Caraval! I guessed who Legendary was pretty quickly in this one and I was right, whereas when I was guessing in Caraval I was completely wrong!
Can not wait for the next instalment in this world! Absolutely love the clever writing of Garber and how she keeps you guessing!
