Needed Warner POV and more time with both power couples. It felt slow and drawn out with still a lot of holes and questions left open. Not nearly as good of story as books 1-5

Diese Reihe liegt mir am Herzen. Vor ein paar Jahren noch als Trilogie geplant; nun als Hexalogie beendet (plus 3 Novellen mit Kurzgeschichten). Hört sich nach einer Menge an und mag anfangs etwas abschreckend wirken, doch Tahereh Mafis Schreibstil ist so packend und angenehm, dass ich die Bücher selbst auf Englisch in kurzer Zeit beende. Auch wenn dieses Finale an manchen Stellen seine Mängel hat, so konnte es mich dennoch unterhalten.

Das Cover: Alle Cover der Reihe (außer: Believe Me) können mich überzeugen. Auch dieses Auge mit spitzen, goldenen Applikationen vor einem grauen, wolkenverhangenen Himmel ist ein absoluter Hingucker.

Die Handlung: Ella (vorher Juliette) weiß endlich, wofür ihre ehemalige Identität geschaffen wurde, und muss immer noch lernen, mit diesen Informationen umzugehen. Die Vergangenheit scheint sie einzuholen und als dann auch noch eine neue Bedrohung auf sie und ihre Gruppe zukommt, scheint die Welt völlig aus den Fugen zu geraten…

Meine Meinung: Anfangs haben mich die eher gemischteren Meinungen zum Finale etwas eingeschüchtert. „Defy Me“ hat für mich an manchen Stellen bereits etwas seltsame Wege eingeschlagen und ich musste mich mit den überwältigenden Eindrücken aus dem vorherigen Band gewöhnen. Wo letzterer noch leicht unkoordiniert auf mich wirkte, so konnte ich hier schnell feststellen, dass „Imagine Me“ deutlich harmonischer und logischer daherkommt. Hier wird ein enormer Spannungsbogen aufgebaut, der mich ab der zweiten Hälfte komplett mitgerissen hat. Doch das Ende ließ mich ein wenig enttäuscht zurück. Viele wichtige Handlungsstränge wurden völlig außer Acht gelassen und manche Enden nicht fertig geknüpft. Dafür, dass hier das offizielle Ende beworben wurde, war es mir zu offen. Zum Glück hat die Autorin zusätzlich eine Novelle herausgebracht, die zeitlich nach diesem Band spielt! Letztendlich hat mich die Geschichte gut unterhalten können, aber den Charme von Band 3 konnte es zum Beispiel in keiner Weise einfangen.

Die Charaktere: Juliette, Juliette…aber eigentlich Ella. Ja, auch ich tat mich schwer mit dem Namenswechsel. Aber mein eigentliches Problem liegt nicht bei letzterem: Ich habe das Gefühl, dass ich unsere Protagonistin nach Band 3 verloren habe. Ewig hatte ich keinen Draht zu ihr aufbauen können, bis sie mir in „Ignite Me“ mit ihrer starken Entwicklung sehr zusagte. Doch danach wurde sie immer eindimensionaler und irgendwie blieb sie mir immer etwas fremd. Dafür rettete Kenji die gesamte Reihe. Ohne ihn wäre der Unterhaltungsfaktor völlig verloren gegangen und ich habe mich gefreut, dass ihm eine immer wichtigere Rolle zugeschrieben wurde. Besonders seine Freundschaft mit Warner war mein persönliches Highlight. Die beiden sind schon längst beste Freunde, nur wollen sie es sich nicht eingestehen. Am meisten begeistern konnte mich jedoch Nazeera, von welcher wir jedoch viel zu wenig gesehen haben in diesem Band. Ihre toughe, aber gleichzeitig geheimnisvolle Art hat eine zusätzliche Dynamik erzeugt und ich würde sie nicht missen wollen.

Fazit: Kein herausragendes Ende, aber dennoch unterhaltsam. Allein für die poetischen Kapitel aus Juliettes Sicht lohnt sich dieser Band schon. Insgesamt gab es für mich jedoch genug Luft nach oben, auf der anderen Seite hat mir gefallen, dass die Liebesgeschichte in diesem Band eine nicht allzu große Rolle einnahm – das hatte mich in den vorherigen zwei Bänden teilweise etwas von der eigentlichen Problematik abgelenkt. Ich kann die Reihe nur empfehlen, auch wenn die letzten zwei Bände nicht mehr ganz an die anderen vier Bücher herankommen. Nun bin ich gespannt auf die letzte Novelle!

Wie im Titel erwähnt ist es beschädigt angekommen. Mehrere Dellen und auch ein Riss. Klebespuren am Cover gab es auch. Ich hab es sofort zurück geschickt und es mir woanders gekauft.
Der Inhalt vom Buch war aber sehr gut. Was ich schade finde ist aber, dass Aarons Sichtweise erst im Epilog vorkommt.

Not sure how I feel about this ending to be honest. It started out decent and then just so quickly everything resolved itself? I really wanted more and it just felt very anticlimactic. At least Aaron got a pov because I missed being in his head. I can't believe that's it though. It feels like something was missing. I'm kinda sad it's over now but I really did expect more from the ending.

This was NOT my favorite book out of the series. Honestly, I like this story better as a trilogy. However, I do love the way she writes and I still read this book fairly quickly. There was A LOT happening in this book. Almost too much? I understand she needed to up the stakes, but I liked the first three books and who Juliette was, where she came from and her purpose etc back then. This twist that happened in the fourth or fifth book with Juliette having a sister and there being a ton of other things that we didn't know about... I felt like it was a reach; a stretch that didn't need to be.

There's a quote for artist that says, 'Art is never done. You have to abandon it.' Perhaps this story should have been done after the third.

The thing I liked least about this book was that Juliette didn't play a driving force in the plot. In fact, she was hardly in it at all. I found this frustrating.

Kenji (Who i love), did most of the story telling. And while I love him, I count on him for the comic relief, the best friend, etc. It was strange with him taking the lead on this book. I agree with previous reviews that this book felt rushed. It felt like there were holes.

And then James had a little role in the book and Adam might as well not have been there at all. And he came in at the very end as a completely changed person... A total 180. It felt rushed. Trying to tie up loose ends quickly. We don't know how he feels about Juliette or about how her and Warners relationship changes in this book. (I think he would have some feelings toward it. And I'd like to know James reaction as well...)

And then of course theres Warner. I disliked the fact that he was a horrible person without Juliette. I mean Kenji was broken up about her being in trouble and gave in to the unknowns from time to time, but his character didn't revert back to three books ago... Like may aspects of this book, it was a little unrealistic; a little over dramatic.

Lastly, Warners Dad not being able to die and how he kept coming back from the dead... I could have done without that. It was such a trumpet moment in the third book when 'J' killed him and it felt like it took away from that.

Anyways. sorry to be a downer about this book. I'm still processing. Ill leave with this: I will forever read Taherehs' books. She's still a wonderful writer and story teller. This one just wan't my favorite.

I love this series as a whole and the slow burn/ destined fate of Juliette and Warner. But this final book felt a little dragged out and I would’ve liked more loose ends tied up. More finality of what happened with all of the children of the supreme commanders, more depth of Kenji and Nazeera’s story and more of Juliette and Warner post re-establishment fall. I just didn’t feel that in this final book. I kept reading not because I couldn’t wait to get to the next page but because I was waiting to get more story. I would still recommend this series to others though.

I absolutely love love love this book series! its my favorite one yet! So when i saw this book i was excited and happy to buy it. I got it in the mail yesterday and what i found was it looked used and old. The back cover was bent and had a crease on the back and the spine was all warn out. it kind of disapointed me a little bit. so i would give this a 6/10 quality review...

So in the end I did not enjoy this reboot of the series quite as much - there was just something about the Warnette will they/won't they angst in the original trilogy - but I still had a fun time with these characters. Although I will also say this book had an extra star removed for no Warner POV, a feral Warner perspective would have been iconic to read about.
