4,0 sur 5 étoilesLoved it but..
Commenté en France 🇫🇷 le 24 octobre 2022
Loved the book ! Very well written and characters (there’s quite a few) are so endearing ! The love story, the war in the main characters life, being torn between all her dilemmas and having literally her own self being her worst enemy because, she just can’t stop thinking for others and never takes care of her self. Quite touching.

The but comes for the love interest. While I love it when a grumpy guy becomes a lover or even the quite sensible persona, I thought it was a little too much to be frank. There were moments where it was almost alarming and toxic.. the Neanderthal took sometimes over the cute level of grumpiness we all love.

**SPOILER**

Other but will be the end… yes I shed a tear but at the end, with a little recoil, it was just too packed up and too perfect… like everyhing, literally everything ended up like in a fairy tale and each of the problems got solved, many couples got created and don’t make me start on the house mariage kid combo that happened waaaay too fast. The fact that her husband is in the headset « if you want something I’ll make it happen, I’ll give it to you, you’ll get it » opposes the beginning of the book where the main character aspires to a life of independency and wants to be able to take care of her self. The book literally ends on the guy taking care of the girl in the most manly, sexist way possible and it was a little disappointing for me.

Other than that, good read !

I was I bit shocked not to read in the review that it had graphic sexual experiences, more so than the story its self. Ordered it for my 13 year old daughter. It should have a age warning on it.

Review : That book was really great! I was scared of the book's length but it went rather quickly so I'm happy! I love the grumpy x sunshine trope, so fine 👌🏻 (Knox is SO fine 👌🏻)! Overall, I really liked the book, and I want a book on Lucian & Sloane's story, that's it!

4,0 sur 5 étoiles imperfect but addictive
Commenté en France 🇫🇷 le 10 janvier 2023
Things we never got over is one of those imperfect books, with some aspects that irritate me, but which are nevertheless very addictive and that I devour.
To start with the positive, I loved the little town spirit where everyone takes care of everyone, defends their friends, helps a lot.
I fell for the heroine's niece (Naomi's niece), because despite a childhood without the attention and affection she deserved, she is courageous and strong, she is very mature while having deep down inside her needs of a girl her age, she manages to trust people she has just met. She is not an unimportant secondary character, she is really at the heart of the story and quickly takes a place in the lives of the protagonists. I was happy for her because she ended up having a real family who would do anything for her.
I loved most of the secondary characters: Naomi's parents and her perfect best friend, Knox's brother, his best friend, his grandmother, and his employees.
Naomi's story with her sister is well thought out, there is suspense, anger and twists. Her sister has disappeared and initially we don't know why, or where, or if she will return. We also wonder how she could have left her 11-year-old daughter behind. There are surprises in the revelations, even if the ending is a bit far-fetched.
Naomi needs attention, love, to be accepted as she really is. Her unequivocal decision to take care of her niece when she didn't even know she existed until then is just admirable. She immediately feels responsible, she puts her first, she wants to make her happy and give her everything she never had. Their relationship is wonderful.
My opinion on Knox is more mixed. He is protective, he likes to growl but does everything to help others. He's amazing with Naomi's niece. But he sometimes goes too far in his alpha side. Not to mention he quietly donates money to the library to hire Naomi. I like that the heroines are independent, autonomous and not that her man saves her with his fortune. Money shouldn't be the answer to everything, especially in a new couple.
Although I loved Knox employees, I found that sometimes they went too far. Few employers would tolerate this kind of behavior. In addition, women who have their period at the same time and who must be left alone because they become irritable... It's a bit cliché! When you're at work, you don't put your colleagues through your moods by telling them "shut up, I'm on my period".
Another concern: Knox goes too abruptly from "Naomi is great" to "I'm leaving Naomi". I can understand his reasoning, but the author presents it too abruptly.
And at the end, he doesn't grovel enough.
In short, an imperfect story but with nice touches of humor, a bit of suspense, two beautiful families, wonderful friends and the desire to know more about certain secondary characters.

Lucy Score is a new to me author and based upon the reviews of Things We Never Got Over (Knockemout #1) and all the hype, I purchased it. However, contrary to popular belief, I thought it was just okay. Again based upon the reviews, I was expecting something unique, outstanding or a plot twist and unfortunately, it never happened. I just felt like there was a void in some areas of the storyline and a lot of repetition. I truly loved Knox and Naomi, I thought they were great together and they had excellent chemistry (their sexy times were on fire!!) however, I couldn’t fully connect with their story.

This is a very long book which I usually don’t mind if it’s consistently keeping me engaged. This one dragged on, I was getting impatient because I really needed the flow of the story to move quicker and to get to the point. I will say that the witty banter between Knox and Naomi was on point, it was very entertaining and one of the best things about this book. Ms. Score also nailed it with the side characters who had laughable moments as well and they definitely made the book better. Around 70% and thereafter, it got much better, it was more enjoyable, I was invested, and I loved the tender, emotional and touching aspects. I also really appreciated that she had diverse characters in this book.

I’m on the fence as to whether or not I want to read Things We Hide From The Light which is Nash’s book. On one hand, I want to read his book out of curiosity and because I really like Nash but on the other hand, I don’t know that I can read another long book that isn’t going to consistently engage me. With that said, I would recommend giving Things We Never Got Over a chance especially since another reader may see it from a different perspective.

When Naomi flees her own wedding and reaches the town of Knockemount, she doesn’t expect to be robbed of her car, most of her cash, and have her eleven year old niece dumped on her all within the first hour of coming to her sister's aid. The problem is, her twin sister is the one who put her in this situation, including never mentioning the fact Naomi has a niece for the past eleven years.

The estranged sisters live a very different life. Where Naomi is the practical list maker, over-thinking, goody two shoes; her sister Tina is the exact opposite: running from the law, living a dangerous life, and abandoning her kid any chance she can get to make a quick illegal buck.

Knox, the town badass hunky Viking comes to her aid reluctantly-knowing a damsel in distress when he sees one. The man who swore off relationships all his life finds himself in a charade of one after what was supposed to be a one night stand with Naomi. He can’t seem to have enough of the woman, and finds himself questioning everything he’s ever lived by when it came to women.

The past of the two main characters come to light as we find out about Naomi’s reasons for fleeing her own wedding, becoming the real runaway bride, and why Knox doesn’t feel like he can stay in a fake relationship with the woman he has fallen for.

Although lengthy, I couldn’t help myself from wanting more and more of the delicious steamy sex scenes #lucyscore expertly provided us. The love/hate/love relationship between Naomi and Knox had me at the edge of my seat, waiting for them to finally confess their feelings to each other and rip one another’s clothes off.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Really great book about trauma and choosing love over fear! Book is too long though
Commenté aux États-Unis 🇺🇸 le 6 juillet 2022

The book gave me that sad, nostalgic feeling of "wow that was a really beautiful book."

1) The book is a beautiful story about overcoming trauma - specifically fears about falling in love. This happens for a lot of books (I'm thinking Ugly Love as another popular romance book). But really this book has realistic trauma situations and there are so many pages that you really see the characters change and unravel from their pain points. So by the end, I really understood the two main characters (there are alternating chapter POVs!). The author explained in the note at the end that some of her friends had some tragedies happen to them while she was writing this book, and that helped her realize this book would be about choosing to love even when you know it could hurt. It's definitely the message and theme of this book so it's super good in that way. This book doubles as a therapy session tbh. In the world of mental health/relationship psychology, I would highly recommend this book. You're basically watching an anxious-avoidant relationship both become more secure (hence the title of the book: Things We Never Got Over)

2) This book is too long. I'm really not kidding. The first 20 chapters should have been cut in half like at best. The author said in the author's note she did not know what the book would be about when she wrote it, I kinda see that still. It's just a lot of romance building and when I tell you the second half of the book is SOOO strong with all the conflict and juicy drama, the length of first half was not needed. Like not needed. As someone who reads a lot of scripts for shows/movies, I am a big fan that every word on a page as a writer should be earned, and so much of the beginning was truly boring to the plot. I am impressed by the original readers who kept on going and then gave the book high reviews. I truly just kept on reading because this book was talked about so much that I had to see the hype. In Hindsight, I would have read a summary online for the first half of the book and then skipped to chapter 21 and started reading the book from then on. Still would have been an over 300-page book to read.

3) This should be an exciting series! The author interweaves other characters' love lives so there will be more books in the future that let us see these other characters fall in love. I am so excited cause Lucy and Sloane brought the heat that sometimes I was more engaged in their bickering than in Noami and Knox's.

4) There's sunshine / grumpy love and then there's like good girl submissive energy / bad boy dominant energy love and this relationship is more the latter. Grumpy guy's usually aren't rude to the actual girl (they are more like thoughtful grumpies...like Adam Carlsen or Luke Danes). This guy at the beginning was just straight rude to the female lead. I was like now what the heck. And home girl had like no backbone to him, for 90% of this book. Like he straight disrespected her many times so I wasn't really into him as a character. I just have a distate for men treating women like garbage but then buying them gifts and so its supposed to be okay? (um no.) until of course then in the end I got more proud of him over time, but to me he's definitely a guy where he's not really my type. (But for those who read the book, I'm probably more of a girl like Sloane.) So yes just a heads up for readers, it's more of the good girl / bad boy chemistry.

5) LOTS of relationship psychology and psycho-analyzing. Sometimes I liked it, other times I felt that the author copied and pasted therapy quotes online and put them into the book. As in it was very generic quotes about choosing love over fear. This book is full of a lot of emotionally unintelligent grown adults being told things they should have learned in their 20s. How have both of the leads not worked through their relationship patterns by now or been told them before? These are conversations people usually have in their 20s, but it might just be a generational thing that people are learning how to heal later. But just a heads up that characters are being told advice that seemed very young to hear for their age. They easily could have been in their 20s in terms of their behavior.

Overall:

Really great book about trauma and choosing love over fear! Way too long of a book, really strong second half, and would highly recommend it if you like good girl/bad boy love tropes or like relationship psychology since there is a lot of relationship psycho-analyzing that the characters do with each other.

The town had it's own personality. From Knox, Nash and Liza J, to the bikers and barbers to the library patrons, each person played a part in giving the town personality. Naomi is a character I can emphasize with. She has spent her whole life doing what she thought she had to do to make people love her and be proud. And this town helps her realize that SHE needs to live for herself. Knox was completely Oscar the Grouch and fighting feelings. Seeing his backstory, it is understandable why he fights so hard, but it hurt Naomi and my heart hurt during these interactions. Waylay was awesome. She was adorable and I loved that she and Naomi become their family and their rocks. Overall this was a very enjoyable book!

Physical Appearance: 2/5
Book/Actual story: 5/5

I love the book and it came in great condition. . . but idk if it's supposed to smell like a porta potty, I thought maybe they were trying to make it smell like daisies??? I'm sure it will fade with time but for the mean time in misting rose water over it 🤧

Anyways I love the book and the dynamic between the niece and Aunt, I have read this book in all seasons and it hits EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I definitely recommend this book! It is 18+ so . . . just mind that if you're conservative.

Side note: I have read this previously on Kindle Unlimited twice, so I got myself a physical copy.

This is the kind of book I was looking to read. It was a nice break from the book series I'm reading through. This book was literally LOL funny and it made my family members give me weary looks as I binge-read it/listen to it in two days. The characters were funny, although sometimes some of Naomi's insecurities were a bit annoying and seem to clash with the facade that she of all people wouldn't be scared of someone like Knox it was still a good storyline. The only reason I am giving it a 4-star rating is that for me it contained too much foul language and cursing. I feel we could have gotten as much feel for these characters without all the explicits IMO.

This book had things I both liked and disliked about it. I'm still giving it a 4 star, because I thought the dialogue was cute at times, it had an adorable kid AND a cute dog, and I liked the little town feel of the place along with some of the townsfolk and other characters thrown in.
Knox was tolerable at best and too bossy and grumpy for almost the entire book. HOW can you be so full of misery when you have won 11 million dollars?! The reason why he's so against a lasting relationship comes to us later, but yeah, still not enough to be so dang grumpy about. No one gets out of this life without losing loved ones and at over 40 he should have realized that by now and learned how to move on.
Naomi and Knox appear way too old to be so childish at times. The plot itself with the good twin/bad twin thing was a little of a stretch, but I still found the book entertaining for some odd reason.
