Rating : 4 ⭐.
Review : My 2nd attempt at reading Emily Henry's novels...and this one was quit good!! I didn't like Beach Read at all, the FMC being too self-centered, the "ennemies to lovers" non existent and I made it half the book only to stop because the FMC never stopped talking about her dad! Although I do feel like family is an important topic in EH novels. Book Lovers also brings out the family topic with Nora & Libby's mom being the core of their special sisterly relationship! Strangely enough I wasn't even looking for romance here! Yes, I liked the MMC : Charlie is such a sweet & lovely guy, you cannot hate him, but the FMC was so fascinating and charismatic that all I wanted to know is how this whole small-town trip would affect her!

Bravo. Très beau livre.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Pleasant novel
Commenté en France 🇫🇷 le 22 juillet 2022
I liked Book Lovers even if, for me, there are too many lengths.
It's quite ironic by the way when you know that the protagonists work in publishing and give excellent advice to improve the stories of their clients.
Nora passes for a shark, an icy tyrant with everyone, who lives only for her work, however, despite the efforts of the author, we immediately feel that this is not true. Her chaotic emotional past is interesting, her family past captivating, her professional experience enriching. I liked that she was strong and vulnerable at the same time, I liked what was inside her, her deep fears and her love for her sister.
But she never made me feel like a shark.
Her family history is very touching but perhaps takes up a little too much space in the story. I had a hard time at first understanding how her sister could leave her two daughters behind while she went on vacation for a whole month. Of course, we discover the real reasons towards the end but it bothered me during my reading. Over the pages we learn more about our protagonists, drop by drop, in an intelligent way. We understand that Nora has communication problems with her sister, that she has always put her sister before her own needs, first and foremost. We also discover Charlie, our hero, little by little. It is quickly apparent that he adores Nora and that behind his grumpy facet, there is a sensitive man who has his own worries. I loved his family. I loved him, really. On the other hand, was it really necessary for Nora to have a date with another man?
I loved their passion for their work and the parallel with the book they are working on. I loved that for once, the heroes assume they prefer to live in the big city rather than in the countryside. I liked the story itself.
In short, a pleasant novel to read, with beautiful characters, a well orchestrated story, a nice writing, but with some lengths.

EMILY HENRY STA DIVENTANDO UNA CERTEZZA.
E' IL TERZO LIBRO CHE LEGGO DOPO BEACH READ E PEOPLE WE MEET ON VACATION.

OVVIAMENTE NO.

Charlie.
Ah ragazzi lo adoro.
L'editor più voluto di New York.
Impenetrabile.
Dedito al lavoro.
Nascosto dietro muri e muri.
Perché è tornato in città? Sembra totalmente fuori posto, come Nora d'altronde.

AMATO.

TEMPLE DE LA RENOMMEE
5,0 sur 5 étoiles A STRONG NARRATIVE - 4.5 STARS

'Book Lovers' is a story about accepting yourself, even though you know you're not perfect and may even be dragging some heavy baggage along. It also delves into family dynamics and personal struggles. Set in both New York and a small North Carolina town, it's a book of contrasts, as well.
MC, Nora is the product of an earlier life of poverty and instability. Add to the mix - her mother was a dreamer. Later in life, Nora has become a hard-nosed workaholic. As a New York literary agent, she is trying to establish a secure lifestyle and wears an outer crust for protection. She’s also a chronic fixer, especially regarding her younger sister, who she feels protective of and responsible for. She worries - is she enough, in all aspects of her life. Importantly, BL is also a story of love and that includes romance. There are certainly sizzling moments, but there are tender ones, too. Nora delves deeply into why she is attracted to executive editor Charlie, and it's touching how she becomes his champion and visa versa. Charlie is an ideal 'book' lover who says and does all the right things, plus despite his hard outer layer, he's vulnerable, too.
Emily Henry is a talented writer and makes acute observations of human interactions:
"That’s the thing about women. There’s no good way to be one. Wear your emotions on your sleeve and you’re hysterical. Keep them tucked away where your boyfriend doesn’t have to tend to them and you’re a heartless bitch."
And:
"When I look up, Charlie isn’t watching me so much as reading me, his eyes traveling back and forth over my face like he can translate each line and shadow into words. Like he can see me scrambling for a segue."
The author also gives readers a realistic view of life in this trope - no one can expect to 'have it all' and each of us has to accept compromises, at times.
"Yes, you have lost something, but maybe, someday, you’ll find something too."
There are moments in the book, however, when I feel Ms Henry is so introspective that I have difficulty following her train of thought. Rereading some passages and getting accustomed to her unique style helps to clarify things. The snappy dialogue is definitely a plus, however, BL contains text messages, plus Nora and Charlie's editing segments. These aren't clearly set out to distinguish from BL's narrative - that's a little confusing, at times.
Overall BL, is a solid read. I wavered between 4 and 5 stars, so I've settled on 4.5. Well worth purchasing for those who enjoy this genre.

The Blonde Likes Books
5,0 sur 5 étoiles So much more than just a romance novel

500/5 stars! I loved this book SO much. I went in expecting a fun enemies to lovers rom-com, but knowing it was an Emily Henry novel, I should have known it would be so much more than that. It’s a story about love and loss, and the way those things can shape who you are and who you choose to become. I laughed a lot, and I also cried. It really pulled out a lot of emotions for me!

I don’t want to give away much about the plot because it’s so poignant and nuances that I don’t think I could do it justice. What I will say is that I laughed out loud SEVERAL times! The banter between Nora and Charlie was so perfect, and was totally my sense of humor. The tension between them lit up the page, and I was dying for them to let down their walls and really SEE each other. When it finally happened? Perfection.

Book Lovers is also set in the book industry, which I loved. Nora is a literary agent, and Charlie is an editor, so reading the discussions they had about publishing, editing, references to tropes, and working on books was really cool.

I really enjoyed the fact that Nora was portrayed as a career woman who focused on her career to the detriment of her personal relationships. It’s not something you usually see in romance books - these women are often made out to be the villain. It was an interesting change of pace and we really got to learn who Nora was at her core as the story progressed.

Last but not least, I loved that we really got to see Charlie and Nora’s feeling for each other change. I’m so many romance books the discussions about life and about getting to know each other are skipped in favor of spicy scenes (which I have no problem with) but while they do a great job at displaying the chemistry between characters, the reader doesn’t always see what ELSE drives the relationship. We are often told how connected they are, but those conversations take place off page so frequently that it was really nice to read so many actual conversations about real life things between them. It made their relationship feel believable and realistic.

All in all, I recommend this book to pretty much anyone. While it is a romance, as I mentioned before, it’s so much more. It deals with grief, family, feelings of loneliness and not belonging, and how people cope with those things, in addition to being a love story. Definitely a new favorite for me!

"Maybe love shouldn't be built on a foundation of compromises, but maybe it can't exist without them either. Not the kind that forces two people into shapes they don't fit in, but the kind that loosens their grips, always leaves room to grow.Compromises that say, there will be a you-shaped space in my heart, and if your shape changes, I will adapt
No matter where we go, our love will stretch out to hold us, and that makes me feel like...like everything will be okay"

I don't even know where to start with this book! but let me just say two things-
1)I bow to the queen of witty and captivating contemporary romance books, I will read your grocery list, your 3yr old to-do list or a detailed recipe on how to broil Asparagus to perfection.I will read anything and everything you shall write.
2)Emily Henry's books are truly soul food, they penetrate deep inside your skin and settle down in your soul

ALL THE STARS IN THE SKY!
_________________________________

Book Lovers is one of my most anticipated releases this year, after being moved by Beach Read and how PWMOV spoke to me, I thought I am ready for her new book, ehh naah I wasn’t prepared for the onslaught-she blew it out of the park once again with this charming blue book which is filled with larger than life emotions. Emily Henry has the knack to cater a book for a wide set of audience but somehow can make it personal to each and everyone of her readers, I believe everyone has something or the other within themselves that they can relate to her books with.

Book Lovers felt like a witty, heartfelt love letter to life filled with hard to talk about emotions, day to day relationship struggles, familial bonds and deeply rooted anxiety that can stem out of loss and grief. There were moments I laughed so much that my insides were in stitches and then there were endearing moments that made me heart ache with joy, this once again is a very quotable book like her other books.

It follows Nora, a literary agent who is a city girl through and through and holds life by it reigns trying to have everything under control. Nora's character is a personification of a strong woman who wants everything and has the capability to take it,but what lies under that brave facade goes deeper than she could ever anticipate, her life revolves around her younger sister Libby to whom she is more of a mother than a sister. Nora's fear of losing makes her overprotective at times so when Libby and Nora feel like they are drifting apart, they decide to go on a vacation to spend time together, a lot of things boils to the surface during their time in a small quaint town in North Carolina, which Nora will have to tackle head on. Nora's character will be quite relatable to people who have hard time sorting their emotions and talking about them, I absolutely adored her character growth

Nora and Libby's struggles and sibling rivalry is true to real life and complex because of the way they grew up and varying perspectives they have on life, I love how their relationship wasn't turned into something hurtful or ugly. It was authentic and refreshing how their characters develop and how their love for each other changes them into better people, if you have a sister yourself I dare you not to cry while you read their beautiful relationship

The unexpected twist Nora's doesn't anticipate while going on this "trip of a lifetime" is having to see the ever charming albeit snarky Charlie Lastra, her work nemesis which later ensues a fiery banter and sizzling chemistry between these two true enemies.Nora and Charlie's banter is a chef's kiss, they have so many witty word volley's that will make you guffaw and make you forget that you are reading, my heart is so full while I read the precious moments between them.I also had to say this is probably the "spiciest" of all Emily Henry books could go on spice level with few open door scenes. Here is one of my favorite quote-

"Be my shark Stephens". "Already was",I say. "Always have been".
"I love you", he says again.
"I love you too". I don't have to force it past a knot or through the vise of a tight throat. Its simply the truth, and it breathes out of me, a wisp of smoke, a sigh, another floating blossom on a current carrying billions of them.
"I know",he says. "I can read you like a book".

What to expect
-Heartfelt belly laughs as a result of witty/hilarious writing
-A story of two siblings that tugs at your heart strings
-A strong woman's love letter to life in NYC
- Endearing moments that will make your soul content
-A beautiful love story between two characters who can be easily misunderstood
- Deep discussions on big foot erotica ;)

Do yourself a favor and get lost in this book!

PS- That epilogue tho…

This is my favorite read of 2023 so far, I loved it so much.
‘He’s mine, and I’m his. It doesn’t matter what the last page says.’

Nora and Charlie’s banter and chemistry is amazing. When their annoyed tones as a result from their less than stellar first meeting slowly turn to subtle flirting to outright dancing around a summer fling and being pleased with themselves for getting the reactions out of the other that they wanted? I was screaming, dancing, happy crying.

Nora’s sister Libby created a checklist for the month of their vacation. Crazy little things to unwind and do something different. For awhile, Nora was working through the list with Libby because she felt that’s what her sister wanted and she wanted to always be there for her sister. At one point, she was truly enjoying her time in Sunshine Falls, and Charlie was a big part of that.

The confessions were equally heart warming and heart wrenching. They know it’s just a summer fling, don’t you dare say goodbye.

“A week ago, I liked you so much I would have wanted to try to make this work. But now I think I might love you too much for that.”
“Of course I love you, Nora. If I loved you any less, I’d be trying to convince you that you could be happy here. You have no idea how badly I wish I could be enough.”
“If anyone could be enough, I think it might be you.” — and I was crying.

I knew they’d work something out and be together again, all they had to do was follow their heart.
