The story is good but it's disappointing not to have the ending in the book you've just bought when you expect it.
This is way, way beyond the normal confines of this genre. It rivals the writing of Anais Nin, but written a century later. I don’t think I have ever read a book as powerfully erotic before - so much so that it had my teeth chattering! Absolutely phenomenal.
Please Arnica, don’t kill this off. Please have the patience to develop the characters and the story beyond a sketch. You are mining a wide seam of gold here and writing something for the ages. Take the time to really make the most of it.
This book started off really well with Zoe coming clean to Josh about events in the previous book. Fortunately Josh had figured out most of it and it fell in with his kink. However, at the end of this book Zoe reverts to her former ways. I wonder what Josh has figured out this time?
And we never get any insight into Randy’s character other than what Zoe surmises. One wonders what really is crawling through his mind. Plus, thus far we have no insight into his divorce. I’m curious as to the skeletons that are behind the divorce (sorry - I’m writing this on Halloween).
I’d like to know what others think. Zoe is a thrill seeker and is in part motivated by satisfying Josh’s fantasies, plus her own. Randy is on the track of degrading Zoe and often refers to her as a filthy wh*re, or some variation thereof. This doesn’t add to the story for me.
Zoe is an explorer and is up for everything Randy has thrown at her. For me this is a woman exploring her sexuality. It doesn’t enhance the story to hear her being degraded, although thus far she hasn’t commented or even seemed to notice. Does this affect women differently than men, or is it all personal choice? I’d appreciate your comments.
Arnica Butler has so successfully portrayed characters who have lost perspective in service of lust that the end of this second installment seems to promise something more sinister than the mildly kinky activity hinted at in store for Zoe at the end of this book. Perhaps the word punishment has not lost all its original import?
Like the previous book this one is a brilliant piece of writing which had me so engrossed I barely had time to hydrate and nourish myself until I had read it from start to finish, with what might've been quiet but perverse desperation.
Had it been a film I would have been annoyingly warning the oblivious young couple of impending doom at the top of my voice ! Could Alicia be the sole beacon of sanity in this thrilling book? Am I suffering from hysteria? Is it all in my mind
I repeat, a worthy contender for some literary prize or other, preferably prestigious!
