I very much liked this first book in the series. The companionship is hilarious, but I believe came about because of something nefarious I will certainly learn about along the way of the series. Emily could certainly have dreamt of a more romantic beginning for her love life, but what the heck! As a writer you have to see the hole thing and pack it nicely so that everything comes together eventually at the end. And I also believe that Godric really fell in love because of a butterfly long before the abduction, lol. What shall I say? I am a believer…

This is the best book I have read in ages. It has an exciting plot, great hero's and heroines and so much going on. A n historical romance too, just too perfect for words. Would recommend this book to anyone. The author is extremely talented.

Silly, 18yr old orphan, Emily, lives with her stupid, wastrel uncle, in relative poverty. Her parents drowned at sea, after being financially ruined by evil Mr Blankenship. My B did this because he never got the chance to marry Emily's mother! He, also, financially ruined her uncle, who will get his debts cleared of he lets Mr B marry and sexually abuse Emily. Luckily, or not, Emily's uncle had stolen money from Godric, who is 30+ and is tall, handsome, well-endowed and very, very wealthy. Godric, and the other members of the League of Rogues, think that it is a good idea to abduct, drug and ruin Emily (?). As her uncle has no money, I don't know what this is meant to achieve. Once Emily is safely (?) imprisoned on his estate, good girl (?) Emily agrees to sleep every night in Godric's bed, with him! By night 2 he's carrying out sex acts on her. She enjoys it so much that she tells him that she loves him and allows him to take her virginity! After a week, he starts to think that he is in love with the beautiful and willing teenager. Mr B pays a thug to abduct her for himself. He, also, pays Godric's ex-mistress, Mirabelle, to go to Godric's estate and find out of Emily is there (he had, previously, visited himself but she was hidden away). She warns Emily that Mr B is sending a small army to kill Godric and his pals and take her back, to abuse her. Mirabelle wants Emily to run away, so that she can move back in. Jonathan, Godric's gardener/footman/valet/secret half-brother, agrees to help Emily escape. They get caught in a rainstorm and he books them into a hotel. He thinks that it is all role play and that Emily wants him as her 'bit on the side', the same as Mirabelle did. Godric bursts in and, instead of telling, a soaked, Emily that he loves her, he knocks out Jonathan and has violent sex, with her, then, tells her that she's served her purpose! Then, he takes her back to his estate. He, eventually, makes the unilateral decision that, as they love each other, he will take her back to London and marry her. Will she say 'Yes'? Will she get abducted, again? Will she EVER believe that HE loves HER - because she didn't rush her decision (?). Will the villains live to tell the tale? Will Emily and the hapless, macho Rogues all live? Who is the real control freak in this couple? Will you care by the end? 🤔 Even puppy, Penelope, changes from a puppy to an adult in one week! So, fasten your seatbelts because anything can happen! Even people rising from the dead! Can people REALLY suffer life-threatening threatening injuries and get married/ go off on honeymoon the next day?

I initially gave up on this book at 5% because the hero is completely and utterly vile - he may have grown up under the cane of a deranged and abusive father, but that gives him absolutely NO excuse to behave as he does. I persisted because I couldn't believe the author would continue in the same vein for the whole book. But she did...

Godric kidnaps Emily because her uncle and guardian has defaulted on a debt. Godric and his four friends (the 'League of Rogues') take her from a diverted hackney carriage, drug her, feel her up, drug her again, and then she's installed in the room next to his at his mansion.

Of course Emily is feisty, intelligent, brave, speaks five languages and is brilliant at everything, and all of the rogues adore her, and she begins to thaw their cold and stony hearts, Godric's especially. Good for her...what do you mean, I'm being sarcastic?

For once, the happy ever after ruined this book for me. The heavy overtones of rape fantasy, Stockholm syndrome and women-don't-know-their-own-minds which define this book range from unsettling to revolting. Considering Emily is a paragon in all ways (see above), she should have kicked poor, broken Godric in the nuts and left him at any opportunity. However, she's so brainwashed that she even lets him anger-screw her up against a door without protest (just as well, he was so angry he'd forbidden her to speak at that point) and it was beyond her wildest dreams...

The one star is for good no typos, and because I'm not allowed to score zero. This book is chauvinistic beyond description, peopled with Manly Men and Strong Women Who Just Need a Manly Man, and a plot so overdone it's long past Gothic.

I really enjoyed the book itself unfortunately I found the illustration very off-putting. It rather ruined the imagination of it for me each time one of the pictures would pop up, it took me a while to get back into the book after each one. Would be a much better book if they were removed. If they were not in it I'd have likely rated it a 5

I absolutely loved this, each of the league of Rogues have their own quirky personalities and you call a little in love with each of them,
Emily a very sweet, innocent girl and Godric, is an absolute Rogue, he was never loved after his mother died and treats all women badly with no exception. These are the main characters in this story, the League kidnap Emily because her uncle owes Godric money. And that's when it all begins, everything you want in a story is in this I could not put it down, I laughed and cried, I need to buy second book in series now. A MUST READ

This was a disgusting story, as well as a stupid one. There are definite shades of Stockholm Syndrome here - and how the "Hero"s friends could go along with his kidnap plot when they are all supposed to be gentlemen beggars belief.
I know the top echelons of society in the early 19th century could do more or less as they pleased, but that is no reason for a modern writer to portray it as a love story.
I just hope nobody as young and naïve as the heroine reads this and thinks it "romantic"
