From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book four in her Blood and Ash series.
From the desperation of golden crowns…
Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.
And born of mortal flesh…
Nothing will stop Poppy from freeing her King and destroying everything the Blood Crown stands for. With the strength of the Primal of Life’s guards behind her, and the support of the wolven, Poppy must convince the Atlantian generals to make war her way—because there can be no retreat this time. Not if she has any hope of building a future where both kingdoms can reside in peace.
A great primal power rises…
Together, Poppy and Casteel must embrace traditions old and new to safeguard those they hold dear—to protect those who cannot defend themselves. But war is only the beginning. Ancient primal powers have already stirred, revealing the horror of what began eons ago. To end what the Blood Queen has begun, Poppy might have to become what she has been prophesied to be—what she fears the most.
As the Harbinger of Death and Destruction.

More action, plot, angst, character development and romance.
I still have issues with some of the writing but really enjoyed the direction it took.
With Casteel captured by the Blood Queen, Poppy has only one goal in mind: get him out. The Queen is ruthless and dangerous as well as cunning. Ready to destroy everything standing between her and Casteel, she and the wolven have to convince the Atlantian generals to join them in the war. that could bring peace to both kingdoms. Between the prophecy at the center of which Poppy stands and the danger that surrounds her on all sides, she will have to fight for her life to save the ones she loves.
I am in awe of this series, as you probably know, and this one blew my mind. If the third book felt a bit less compelling, this one was the best one yet in my opinion. From the very beginning, I was completely hooked and I couldn't put it down. I loved that we got some chapters with Casteel's POV as well - I love him SO MUCH. Poppy is just incredible. She's fierce, strong and incredibly inspiring in a way. She always does her best to do what's right AND get her way, even when everyone wants her to lose her mind. She's truly amazing and following her story is compelling. Her friendship with Kieran is gold, I love the scenes they had together in this one. The new characters (and Easter eggs for ASITE) made me smile. It was action-packed and rather fast-paced, with some high level spice that had me blushing and gasping at times (I loved it so MUCH!). But it was also darker than before, and the revelations we got about the past and the future and everything in between were truly fascinating, some I never saw coming. The end had me on my knees because of how intense it was and JLA's writing truly speaks to me and is completely addictive. Please get me the sequel now!
I highly recommend this series for fans of fantasy romance with a great plot and an intricate world.

Save yourself money and time and heartache. Drop this series, drop this author, don't even pick this up.

I can not believe how much time I put into this series, and I can never get it back.

Lamentavelmente desastroso!

The War of Two Queens is the fourth book in the From Blood and Ash series and one of my favourite book series. This has been my most anticipated release of 2022.
There will be spoilers ahead, so if you haven't read it yet, scroll on 😂
I really loved this book, and think I experienced every emotion under the sun whilst reading it. The writing has vastly improved from Crown of Gilded Bones and so much happens plot wise.
So many questions were answered, questions I've had since the first book! The additional information surrounding Sera, Nyktos, Malec and Kolis have made me so excited for the sequel of A Shadow in the Ember.
I enjoyed the development of Poppy's power, she acknowledges how much she has changed and what is still yet to change and that both scares and empowers her. Change is a long process, not usually immediate so I enjoyed seeing her with her new abilities.
Whilst the secondary characters (Emil, Netta, Delano) did not show up much, it was worth it when they did. Every moment was savoured. I had my doubts about Emil in the previous installment but this book made me fall in love with him.
"Go get our King, my Queen." *Swoon*
Whilst the secondary characters tool a step back it enabled us to see the relationship between Kieran and Pops develop...and I loved every word of it. There were some moments of pure fluff and it was emotional to see the raw dynamics of them change. Kieran who is usually so calm, has his emotional moments and it was lovely to see his vulnerable side.
Now, I've seen so many negative reviews about the Joining and people leaving negative reviews without finishing the book. I actually enjoyed the connection between the three and thought it was written beautifully, not concentrating on one more than another.
If it wasn't your cup of tea, fair enough but to attack/shame/threaten an author, as I've seen many YOUNG readers and some older do...is appalling. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
This is Jen's story and she obviously had an idea of where the story was going when she started it. I didn't feel as if any part was fanservice, she has put little nods to the group before but small tidbits that do not alter the plot. To shame her over her story is vile.
Finally, the last chapters were an emotional rollercoaster. DELANO...really Jen?! I had a minor heart attack which I still haven't gotten over. I loved the ending, finally Isbitch is dead and we saw Nektas😍🙌 but Kolis has been introduced and I enjoyed seeing the world of flesh and fire meet the blood and ash world!

I feel like this book was very much in keeping with book 3, our 2 mc are separated with one held captive. The difference being a dual pov in this book. If you didn't like book 3 you probably won't like this and visa versa. Personally I like 1 and 2 the most and the spin off, and then these are ok. I think that's because the romance was the big seller in this series and now that is resolved and you have more attempt at plot and less character driven I'm not sure it works as well.
I did feel it was overly long and the story didn't pick up until the captive plot was resolved, but part of that is just a personal dislike of that kind of story being dragged out. If a character is kidnapped/captive/in mortal peril I need to be resolved quickly as I do a it to tense to enjoy.
That said, when it did get going I really enjoyed it. I would like to see more from other characters, but I will be reading the next book. Malik and Millie are a highlight and may fill the void that is created when the tension goes when the pairing of the mc happens.

The War of Two Queens was an epic continuation of The Blood and Ash Series! The pages are filled with love, friendship, war, death and so much more, this book was impossible to put down. I devoured the book so quickly. The series continued to unfold in a way that was not only intricate but has me so invested and wowed at how Jen can tie everything together in a way that makes my head explode! And each character own my heart in their own special ways. With twists, turns and epic reveals you will be glues to this book from start to finish!
From the start you are consumed with happiness and worry; I was so excited to read Cas's POV and experience his thoughts and feelings but with the end of the last book you know he is not in a good spot. It hurt to see him go through something so horrible again and I wanted to become stabby for him. I was so anxious reading his chapters and was just waiting for Poppy's and Cas's reunion. The things he would do for love, for Poppy and his friends was just everything. You could feel emotions right of the page, bur even going though the worst he would preserve and have hope and determination.
Poppy was dealing with a lot throughout the book; her husband sacrificing himself, the revelations about her family and bloodline, and dealing with her powers but she tried to remained strong and determined, I loved her for it. you could feel her pain at moments, the trials she had to go through and the horrible heart wrenching lessons she learned kept giving me all the emotions. During the book Poppy's heart wasn't whole. For the first time in a while she was separated from Cas and she ached for Cas. For knowing the horror that he must be going through. I'm so glad she has Kieran by her side, and how he helped her through everything. Their relationship really grew in this book and he had her back without any hesitation.
Even through the sadness of some parts, there was also so many moments that made me laugh and smile. I loved the side characters so much, especially Reaver, Delano, Netta. We got a better look into what type of people they are and I loved! I would not be okay with anything happening to any of them. They added the lightness that was needed in the moments of darkness. I loved having Reaver and the Drakens, they added to the story. I loved the different places we went too, and seeing Poppy become the queen that we wanted to see her as. I loved her growth in this book, and how she became even more of a badass. And even though it was sad Cas wasn't there I liked that she was able to do it on her own and find herself on her own.
The plot was filled with more twists and turns that were shocking and just made everything click into place. There was some great badass moments with Poppy and her army. The title of the book really lived up to the story, and the last few chapters caused me to have my heart in my throat with shock, happiness and my mind blown. I was on the edge of my seat with this book. You will meet new characters, learn new information, and have your mind blown again and again. and once you finish I will guarantee you will be sitting there for at least ten minutes trying to process everything and also wish you had the next book immediately. And while this story is within the From Blood and Ash Series, the ties into A Shadow in the Ember and it's story. I defiantly feel like there will be some sort of crossover with the books with how the stories are intwining. It is a must read before you dive into this book, and will help understand plot points again.
Jen continues to wow me with each book in this series and the rest of the series is defiantly going to be epic! A lot of questions were answered, there was great scenes and epic battles and I couldn't be happier! Jen's books always take you on a wild ride and you will not be disappointed with this book!
