Remarquable série

C'est le deuxième (sur 4... car il y a 4 cavaliers de l'apocalypse) de cette série.

Le premier tome portait sur Pestilence, le cavalier semant la maladie (horrible et mortelle) sur son passage. Ce tome était extrêmement émouvant et plutôt subtil pour de la romance.

Le deuxième tome est dédié à War, le cavalier semant le chaos (mortel) sur son passage. On quitte les Etats-Unis pour Israël, avec Myriam, une femme issue de l'union d'un musulman et d'une juive, une femme très déterminée, très courageuse. C'est sanglant, avec exécutions sommaires, viols (à la fois beaucoup et très peu évoqués), tortures (idem, à la fois beaucoup et très peu évoqués). On ne peut pas dire pour autant que ce soit édulcoré. J'ai trouvé l'histoire plus invraisemblable, plus difficile à accepter (comment une femme peut-elle aimer, sans le connaître autrement qu'à travers ses actions guerrières, un homme cherchant à semer la mort sur son passage, systématiquement) et moins émouvant.

Mais c'est très bien écrit, très bien rythmé (les 500 pages sont nécessaires pour décrire l'évolution des deux personnages principaux).

Je recommande fortement! Et je suis prête à suivre Famine, le cavalier semant la faim (mortelle) sur son passage.

I waited so long for this book and it was worth the wait. It is SUCH an intense read, and Ioved it. Quite gruesome at times, but the characters evolution was very well written

Oh my god, thank you for that book. I started reading this morning, it's now midnight and I'm crying. I spent the whole day reading and it was amazing. I am well and truly addicted to this series wow.

If there’s one thing Miriam has learned, it’s that love and war cannot co-exist. And soe she must make the ultimate choice: surrender to War and watch human-kind fall, or sacrifice everything and stop him.

Going by the cover ‘War’ looks much more up my street.
Plot reads like previous – War arrives to end the human world and falls for one of the very humans he must destroy. Gets a bit angsty and then he realises that he can’t go on without her!

So far – Miriam has been taken from New Jerusalem by War who recognises her as his wife. Miriam can understand the archaic language that War speaks to her even though she doesn’t know how and she herself is unable to speak it.

The two love each other which is a nice development. Again our female main character is determined to save humanity and our inhuman horseman is devoutly following his orders from on-high.

Beware the pregnancy trope. I expected it from earlier in the book as the FMC referred to the fact that she had little sexual experience as the risk of pregnancy was too great.

While I enjoyed this book, it’s not really my thing.

I mean obviously I am going to read the next two of the series cause my OCD demands that I read the full lot but really… it’s a repetitive trope but I do enjoy the authors prose and story so that redeems is slightly in my eyes.

Another brilliant book in the series. Again it's a delicate balance between romance, philosophy and faith. While Pestilence was quite naive regarding humans, War is all about humans and understand their costumes and behaviour as can be seen by the steamy sexy scenes in the book. Sadly in this book 95% of it did not like the Heroine (Miriam) at all, she was very deceitful, not even cunning, just deceitful and a twit, not a very nice trait for a heroine, she did redeem herself though towards the end. War on the other hand was wonderful, focused, driven, loyal passionate, loving and truthful, he was so good that you can kinda understand his logic, I'm not a religious person but even I think sometimes that humanity does not deserve to survive, we are killing other species and we think earth belongs to us (really???)
Couple of minor gripes:
1. Book is waaayy too long, 15 hours if you listen, it could have been 3 hours less (not the steamy bits of course 😁) would still be great.
2. I know the book exist in a future with The Four Horsemen but was not happy with changing Israel's name to New- Palestine, just no!!
Other than that it's so good which is why the 5 stars!!

I've tried reading Rhapsodic by this author but couldn't get into it. However, I saw a teaser from this one, so thought to give it a try.

First of all, it's not a genre I read often. Can't remember the last time I read a dystopian novel. Thing is, it's a bit... odd. Maybe it's the writing style - really repetitive - or the theme & plot. Don't know, but it got on my nerves many times and I always ended up switching to a different book.

I managed to finish it, so kudos to me.

Second, it's too darn long. Way too long. So many things could have been left behind, in the first draft. Truly. As I said, repetitive. War finds Miriam, takes her because she's his wife - still not clear where he got that from, apparently it's a scar she has - and from then on, many, many, MANY pages of how they go from one city to another, settle into camps all the time, murder people, while Miriam is plotting to run away. Oh and she does a time or ten.

I guess I liked Miriam. She knew War wasn't a good guy - hello, Horseman of the Apocalypse - and she opposed his insane idea of them being married. Now War... oh, I really don't know what to say about him, except that I liked him for the last ten pages or so. I didn't dislike him before, I just felt nothing toward him.

But I do know that this is the first and last book I'll be reading by this author - many of my friends like her style, not for me - and I wish I would have gone with the sample first. Oh well.

2.5 stars.

I was waiting for this book for ages after reading pestilence. I loved the first book and couldn't wait for this one. It was a really good read. The tension between the main characters was really hot as were the intimate scenes. I would have loved to have read some more detailed intimate scenes between them! Some parts were a bit difficult to read but then again the book is obviously about war and battle. I will certainly be continuing this series and cant wait for the next book!

I was sceptical about this one at first, two new protagonists had me slightly disappointed. I was completely engrossed once I got past the first chapter, it starts in a different part of the world which I loved. War's story was absolutely terrifying and moving at the same time. The main character Miriam was a very well written, and to be fair perfectly balanced woman. The first book will always be my favourite, but this one was still definitely just as good. Of course some parts of this book had me cringing and wretching, without spoiling it let's just say I'll never look at meat the same way. If you're looking for end of the world, explosive and exciting. This is a must read, but be prepared for the fact that this is about one of the four horsemen. It can feel violent at times, but considering the storyline it's to be expected.
