(I do love this part, but don’t put it in your bio, it’s just a comment...)
Bonne lecture et carpe diem.
Sincèrement vôtre

Grey feels like a completely different character. The previous series, Death by daybreak, was filled with brilliant storytelling and characters that I became fully committed to. I thought Grey was an interesting choice to keep going with, but she's completely ruined him for me here. None of his actions make sense.
In fact, I didn't care for any of the characters, which really shocked me because one of the main reasons I am such a fan of Stunich is her ability to create people who feel real to me. Everyone here felt like a stereotype. We barely touched on anyone's history, I don't know why anyone thinks the way they do or again, acts the way they do. I couldn't tell you what anyone's motivations are here and there is barely a plot.
The dub con read more like non con. I kept reading, waiting for more emotion and intent to be introduced to these scenes but they were none and I found myself skimming them the more I read. The darkness doesn't bother me, but do it well.
I think I can vaguely see what she was trying to do, but she forgot to make us care. There's no sympathy to any of the characters. Grey could have been a wonderful opportunity, a dark soul/gentleman, someone who has to learn to trust again, fix a broken heart and find his equal. Instead, she seems to have turned him into some sort of childish, whining monster. The heroine Peyton is by far her weakest lead and I could not tell you a thing about her except that she reads fairytales. That's it.
Stunich writes some wonderful books that I will continue to reread and recommend. I will give the next book in this series a chance in the hope that this was just a misstep, but otherwise it's a no from me.

But isn’t that the point?
I mean, this man was betrayed by his family, forced to endure torture at the hands of rivals, forced to fall in love with someone who he could never have a life with, repeatedly told that he was the “throwaway prince” and had a very traumatic beginning to his life.
However, I’m not naive to think that this should excuse any of his outrageous transgressions now. And believe me they are heinous! BUT, I came into this story knowing it was going to be dark! Stunich is not one to write all sweetness and light.
And that’s why I love her!
This book is as depraved as it is sensual and half of my mind is fighting the sickening scenes I read, whilst the other half is loving being turned on. What a conundrum my emotional state has been.
The only downside is the cliffhanger. I didn’t realise (my stupidity) that it was a series and until around the 70% mark kept thinking it was a standalone. Gutted the next book isn’t out. But I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next instalment with bated breath!

What a deliciously dark story that captivates my dark heart. The opening to this book instantly pulls you into this world and Grey is a mystery for sure. 😍
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 …𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 …𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧 …
The story is unlike anything I've read, delicious and unbelievably dark with triggers. Grey is a misunderstood guy who morals are showcased as wrong but ultimately isn't understanding his true self.
I loved the suprise MM scenes and the confliction Peyton feels, she's innocent and feels what is happening is wrong but in the same breath she is salivating for more.
The story is unfolding and i will be diving straight into book 2!

5 stars - less than a day to read because I cannot put it down. I only give 5 stars if it has managed to engage extra emotions from me - extreme lol moments or real teary moments etc. A 5 stars book tends to have me raging about cliff hangers and (legally and not creepily) stalking the author for release dates.
4 stars - 2 days to read or less. A book that I have quite enjoyed reading, feisty MC and some racy scenes with thier romantic interest. I would definitely follow a series and author for 4 star books.
3 stars - takes around 2/3 days to read, usually because I have become distracted and less engaged in some sections but by the end the end I have enjoyed the overall story and would read any sequels.
1/2 stars not given, as I have usually returned it without finishing as I'm not engaged. .

I will read the next one to see where it goes.
