But that doesn’t mean Shaw won’t.
She’s living in my house, always with me, always under my control.
The more I push her, the more she pushes back.
She’s peeling away my secrets, one by one. And I’m tempting her to do things she never thought she’d do…
Shaw won’t stop hunting her.
When the time comes to act, will Mara be ready?
The Lark Notes:
I was so pleased how many women identified with Mara’s character - with her sensory issues and history of trauma. It sounds crazy to call this an “inspirational story of murder”, but at the end of part two, I hope you will indeed feel inspired by Mara’s journey. — Sophie
"There Is No Devil” is the second half of the Sinners Duet. Reader be warned: this is a dark and steamy serial killer romance that may be triggering to some.

These books are a little difficult for me to rate and review. I'm not 100% sure I know how I feel about them.
First off...I love serial killer/psycho books. LOVE them. And dark books are my jam. So no problems here with anything like that.
These are my first books by the author. I was, at first, a little surprised with how much "tell vs show" there was. Feelings weren't always clear, and in the beginning, I had a hard time connecting with the characters.
But then, seemingly out of nowhere, I found myself drawn into the story. As I haven't read any of Sophie's other books, I'm not sure if this is her normal writing style, or if it was written this way to immerse the reader into the mindsets of the characters. (If it's the second one, she's some kind of genius.)
I found myself getting caught up in their story, and when I began book 2, I was even more so. I abandoned housework and other responsibilities to keep reading, and when the story was done, I found myself in this predicament.
Just how exactly do I feel about this duet? 🤷🏼♀️
There were a couple of discrepancies between book 1 and 2. Just because of my black little heart, I would have loved to see more killings and more blood. For a book with an MMC that's a serial killer, I was wanting more. This is also a slow burn duet, and I didn't find it overly spicy.
But...but. Those are small complaints, really more due to my personal preferences. And authors cannot please everyone.
So, it's 4 stars from me...because at the end of the day, although I was left wanting more, I could not put the books down, and I'm glad I read them. I have the feeling I'll be falling down the psychopath rabbit hole now. Gimme.

This book carries on from the first one and perfectly shows the development of Mara and Cole. I think the character development for the MC’s is fantastic and the dynamic between them is incredible. Even though Cole is a sociopath with very strong selfish attributes, he never once stops worshiping the ground that Mara walks on. And I think that’s why this book is so fricking good- you can’t help but swoon over the way Cole is towards Mara and how he builds her into a stronger and better version of herself. It is also amazing to see how Mara changes Cole and shows him love is something to treasure.
This book is honestly everything I wanted from Mara and Cole. It is perfect and went in the right and only direction I could see it going; one filled with so many bumps and turns, shocks and thrills, and lots of suspense. After all, it wouldn’t be a good serial killer romance without suspense.
This book is jam-packed with amazing qualities:
- The storyline is perfection
- The suspense is thrilling
- The steam is incredible
- And the violence adds to the danger...
What’s not to love?
I can’t wait to see what troupes Sophie tackles next, as she has proven that she is amazing no matter the theme of her books. It could be mafia or serial killer romance, her books will still be absolutely amazing.
I don’t think this review does the book justice, but I hope it convinces you to read this series.

SPICE:🌶🌶🌶🌶

Everything has changed for Mara and she is adjusting well. She didn't expect what is happening with her and Cole and she is embracing every second of it. Mara is a very strong, independent and she thought she was broken until Cole came into her life and made it all different.
Cole is very smart and he doesn't like things that he cant control and he will do anything in his power to keep her safe even kill for her. Cole is a very dark and twisted human being who also has another serial killer on his tail with Alastor and these two people are about to go head to head and we will see who the smarter of them is.
I loved how this author written these characters and how she brought them all to life beautifully and once I started reading them I couldn't stop. This author is very creative and they way that this story comes together in this conclusion is amazing. It is full of obsession and mind twist and the crime element is great, it has very dark moments and is a thriller written so great it came to life on the pages. This story flows and has a great pace to it and gripped me all the way through, you will love reading about Mara and Cole and what is hiding in the shadows. I highly recommend reading these books its truly an awesome duet and I cant wait to read more from her in the future.

After the intense events of book 1, there was bound to be drama ahead to wrap all the lose ends up in a tight bow. And while there was plenty of intrigue and emotional turmoil to get though, this book somehow felt lighter.
Gone was the unapproachable and removed mind of Cole and in its place was more humanity and feeling as he’s changed by Mara. Oh course he still has a meticulous mind and his need for vengeance/to right perceived wrongs in the most brutal way is still alive and kicking. But we see his emotional range and understanding develop throughout this in a really compelling way.
Mara remains a super interesting female lead to me. Her sensory issues are still mentioned in this book though maybe not as much as book 1, it’s clear any time we are in her POV how uniquely she experiences the world and processes things. It’s fascinating - though being the woman that snares a serial killer, she was always going to be so.
There were some quotes about sharing life and not being alone that really hit hard. And some great expressions of life lessons learned.
I adored this duet. It was so different to other things I’ve read that it was mesmerising in its entertainment and depth of feeling. Will definitely be continuing with Sophie’s other books!
