No sorcery to dislike this book. There are some good fantasy ideas but for the rest it remains quite predictable. You won 't have the ending also, have to continue reading the series.

Very good book. It gives a good and questionning insight of what might have been European societies in the Middle Ages (in term of liberties). The woman character is really captivating by her enthusiasm and warmth. I strongly recomand this reading. It is a good entertaining book. It might change some aspects of your attitude. Nonetheless you might not be really startling by the way the story unfolds. But I find the predictability cheerful.

Well written, intriguing story. Likeable characters - even the ‘baddies’ are likeable enough that you hope they will eventually see the light…. Nice exploration of the best and worst of being human from the innocent but analytical perspective of the heroine who has ‘arrived’ fully formed but without the experience of growing up or the exposure to environment that shapes others. Also a grand adventure with spying, battles and magic! Romance but no overly descriptive scenes. I enjoyed the book very much. This works as a standalone but I believe there is a second volume.

Opinion:
This book was a kindle freebie so of course I had to give it a try – I have to confess I have now purchased the Volume 2.
I didn’t think I’d end up giving 4 stars to this book – I didn’t want to enjoy it as much as I did, it felt like a guilty pleasure! A book with such creative world building and concepts could be so MUCH more (My hopes are in the sequel – to explore all which has been missed ).

The Plot
The beginning was what hooked me! Before I knew it, I was reading incessantly, page after page. Even amongst the cliches, I think the element ‘suspense’ was worked to the perfect degree to make you feel curious about what could happen next.
On the other hand, I was terribly disappointed with the development of the plot in the last chapters and specially the ending.

The Characters
My favourite character was the antagonist (I am pretty sure this was not the authors’ intention!). Augusta, to me, appeared to be pretty rational in her fears and even if part of her was motivated by jealousy, well, this is a human emotion too! She seemed to be the most genuine and real character of them all. Her motives were pretty clear too, unlike the others. And she remains loyal to her beliefs even if those are controversial.
My least favourite character was Blaise (oops this was supposed to be the main character!). I admire his values and how far he is willing to go to benefit the peasants but at some point, he does seem to lose track of his objectives. He needs to set his priorities urgently: Saving his people, saving Gala, entering the Spell Realm? Is he serious about making a change in the world and seek a solution for the unfair differences of his society OR is he just a mad scientist obsessed with his creation?
There are some aspects about Gala that make her interesting (not necessarily likeable!) – most of the time she is nothing more than a selfish and careless young girl. – not suitable to whatever romance she’s thrown into.

Favourite points
The world building, the magical concepts, how easy it is to get into the magical world created by the authors unlike many fantasy books.

What’s missing for me
Less cliches, More descriptions, More character depth & development.

This is a very intricate, well developed and a somewhat fun read.

We meet Blaze who is a highly skilled Sorcerer and he is trying to bring magic to everyone in the world not just the select group. In this land there are three classes of people, the Sorcerers at the very top, the soldiers who guard the sorcerers, and then there is the common folk. Blaze believes that magic should be available to everyone so he sets about to make this happen. What he didn't expect was to create a "woman"! He names her Gala after his mother and there is no denying that there is going to be some romance between them.

I loved how the story intermingles with the other characters, Gala was brilliant and I just loved her view on the world, Augusta who is Blaze ex fiancée was just written in perfect the way to annoy you but still love her character in a way.

The story got me hooked even though I wasnt really sure what to expect, and I loved the magical world that Zales has created and for all I am not one to read much of this genre it was definitely a brilliant read and I cant wait to read volume 2!

As soon as I started reading this book I could not put it down. In this book (spoiler alert there is another book plus a third yet to come) the sorcerer Blaise creates a self aware spell (essentially an artifical intelligence) with unforeseen consequencies. Not only did i enjoy the story but i liked the way it was told through several characters so that you get to understand their motives for their actions.
I enjoyed the book so much that i immediately bought and read the second book. Just waiting on the third to be released.

Well written and an enjoyable story. It seems like a teen story of magic and romance but nevertheless I thought it was very good.

It is not the fantasy fiction that I usually read but if you like an easy going pleasant reading experience then this is a good choice.
