'A truly adorable, heart-warming, swoon-worthy love story' Beth O'Leary, bestselling author of The Flatshare
Distraction (n): Something that turns your attention away from something you want to concentrate on. See: Teddy Prescott.
______________________________
Ruthie Midona is twenty-four (going on ninety-four) and fully committed to her job at a luxury retirement village. Keeping herself busy caring for the eccentric residents means that Ruthie can safely ignore her own life - what little there is of it.
Teddy Prescott is practically allergic to a hard day's work. When he rocks up as the retirement village's newest employee, Ruthie is less than impressed. The last thing she needs is a distraction as irritating (and handsome) as this selfish rich kid. Lucky for Ruthie, her favourite pair of mischievous residents need a new assistant to torture... so she hands over Teddy, ready for them to send him running.
Except Teddy may be about to surprise her - not just by surviving the old women's antics, but by charming Ruthie so much, she starts to remember that there's more to life than work... Could Teddy be far more than simply an unwelcome distraction?

Review : Honestly Sally Thorne is such a good rom-com author !! 99 Percent Mine was meh but The Hating Game was SO great, and THIS ONE is as good!! But who will win my heart : Joshua Templeman or Teddy Prescott ?? No one knows...(except Sally Thorne maybe...).
I'm a fan of sally thorne, already have read the other 2 books.
And well I spent a good time reading this one and a big applause to this author who have a good talent for writing ^.^
Her characters are original, their particular appearance hides a past, a story, mysteries that we are delighted to discover.
Ruthie is a sweetheart, she spends her time working and taking care of others while totally forgetting herself. Under her granny look hides an injured, guilty and complexed young woman. She loves without restraint and without asking for anything in return, the happiness of others comes before her own. Despite everything, thanks to her new colleagues, she will learn to assert herself, to get out of her comfort zone, to fight for what she wants. I especially liked her friend who creates a multi-step "method" to turn the little chick into a swan.
Teddy is covered in tattoos, very tall, very muscular, he has long hair ... the opposite of Ruthie. Behind the tattoos hides the heart of a little boy who only dreams of being loved. Teddy is simply adorable, charming, funny, caring, persevering ... He does not judge others with prejudices but with his heart. Yes he makes a small mistake when he meets Ruth, but he has extenuating circumstances and he is the first to accept and love our heroine as she is.
Ruth and Teddy become neighbors and friends, feelings naturally evolve and their love quickly becomes evident. He seduces her with humor and pretty sincere phrases, phrases that made me melt. She seduces him by offering him what he has always been looking for.
Even though she is afraid that her feelings will not be shared, she does not hide them. Even though he's not sure she's ready for him, he honestly tells her what he thinks and wants. I loved all this sincerity and their game of seduction on this tone of humor.
Among the secondary characters, there are two elderly ladies, wealthy retirees who live in Providence, two women full of energy, intelligent and imaginative. One of them likes to play with her employees, she makes them do different wacky tasks to test them and have fun. These two ladies made me laugh a lot but also moved me.
Another particularity of this novel : the presence of unique endangered turtles that Ruthie gathers to give them care and refuge. A wonderful idea that gives the story even more charm. Just like she does with these turtles, Ruthie welcomes Teddy into her home, she takes care of him, gives him love. Teddy learns to do the same.
Both evolve over the pages, not only do they discover true love but they also learn to be confident in themselves. They also realize that when you really love someone you let them stand on their own if they need it to be happy. The proof of ultimate love. They learn the right balance between giving and taking.
The end of this book is like the whole story: adorable, touching, magical, full of love.
This novel is a real success. Thank you Sally Thorne for all these beautiful emotions, for making me dream, for bringing sweetness to this world.

I procrastinated starting this book on release day because I wanted to savour the feeling of still having it to read. I knew once I started it, I'd inhale every word, but I'm also not someone who can wait once something is released.
The plot is simple. Ruthie is 25 going on 125 and works at a retirement village. For the first time ever, she has people her own age on-site - Mel the temp, and Teddy, the new owner's son who can't quite get past his reputation as a charming rascal. While they work on making Ruthie feel 25 for once, Renata and Aggie, 91 and 89 respectively, steal every scene they're in as chief trouble makers at Providence retirement village. Cue: a warm hug of a book that is full of cute. I can't recommend it enough if you like even a sniff of a romance book. It's a 10/10.

Ruthie meets Theo, a chance meeting at a petrol station and they both make a terrible first impression on each other. They don't realise that they will have a chance to make perhaps a better second impression.
So I am normally a psychological thriller reader however I needed a break with something light and funny and this ticked both boxes completely. By just 4% in I was out loud laughing, this has never happened to me before when reading a book! I loved Ruthie and Theodore and I loved what they each brought out in each other, add in the bubbly Melanie and the crazy but brilliant Parlonis and a few turtles and boy the story is just excellent!
This book was wonderfully delightful and a brilliant escape from reality, I loved every page and I guess you could say I experienced dazzlification ;-)
Highly recommended, read it and you won't be disappointed.

I’m a bit of a sucker for a romantic reality show - (think Love is Blind, Married at First Sight Australia 💖) and I’d say a warm, cosy rom com novel with a gentle, lighthearted storyline is definitely one of my guilty pleasures. Does this make me a hopeless romantic? Possibly…
This book follows a similar concept as The Hating Game - two seemingly mismatched singles thrown together in unusually high stakes circumstances. I devoured this novel on one cosy Sunday. Is it the best book I’ll read this year? No. Will I remember this book in a few weeks time? No… but that’s okay! It was comforting, happy little read and I’m more than happy to continue on this rom com journey.

Ruthie and Teddy are too cute. There is one thread of this story that I do with had had a slightly longer and more satisfying conclusion, but it didn’t stop me loving this book! Also loved the Parlonis!
