She was sassy and relatable, just asking for a chance after so much bad luck in her life. Maxx was as grumpy as you could get but still caring and warm with her.
They made for a cute couple with a lot of chemistry and entertaining banter. I also liked the side characters and what they are building together.
An easy, fun, funny and enjoyable read that made me smile.
Bonus point for keeping the outside drama and angst to a low level !

Charly is in a bit of a dire situation. Her roommate scarpered with her rent, most of her cash, & a fair few of her possessions. Leaving Charly to deal with their sexual miscreant of a landlord. Then she’s fired & the dire situation becomes untenable. Charly decides she needs a change, to get away & sort her life out. So, she answers the ad.
One case of mistaken identity later she finds herself resident in the backroom of grumpy mechanic’s shop. ‘Girl Friday anyone!’.
Maxx & Charly have suffered loss in their lives both physical & emotional and are for all intents and purposes alone in the world. Where Charly positive outlook kept her moving forward; Maxx got mired and his life developed into a state of disarray. The house, the shop & life in general overwhelmed him. All Maxx wants to do is restore bikes & live a simple life on his own. But will a certain girl Friday see fit to make that happen for him?
This story has a good mix of angst, banter, romance & humour. Charly is sassy with a fabulous turn of phrase to her vocabulary “gosh darn it”, “easy peasy” & my personal favourite “chapping my ass”, with an easy-going outlook to life. Maxx, on the other hand, is grumpy with a serious, old fashioned outlook on life, picked up from his dad which has endured. When I say old fashioned I don’t mean ‘a woman’s place is in the home’ old fashioned I mean caring, respectful and well mannered.
From their first meeting, Maxx & Charly felt like a good fit, even though Maxx took some convincing. The persuasion however is the best bit.

Anyway, Red/Charly is down on her luck and with a creepy landlord she takes on job offer where she meets Maxx... But she's met Maxx before... 😍
This leads to a grumpy, employer\employee wanting one another but with Grumpy Maxx in denial as he too has been hurt...
I'll be honest I thought the ending would be different, based on Maxx trust issues with money etc I thought he would accuse Red of something, she'd leave and he would realise his mistake, chase her down and grovel... And confess his love. BUT NO
The ending was much sweeter in my opinion ... Maxx truly showed his love and caring side - I loved it.
I will be reading book 2

I found my self unable to stop reading for long, (the family pets _did_ get fed) and was chortling, chuckling and laughing out loud frequently, all with the great character descriptions, perky interactions and without the serious undertones of the story being lost in the meantime. A great balance and heartily recommended.
Off to start Stefano’s story now !
