Childhood friends, well Kennedy was Jillians best friend, Jackson's sister. They've never admitted that they've harboured feelings for each other, and never crossed that line.
Kennedy's been blaming herself for the death of her best friend and wishing it was her that died.
Jackson blames Kennedy for his sister's death, and also wishes it was Kennedy that died that night.
Now Kennedy is at Blackthorn, Jackson is going to make her pay anyway he sees fit. But first he's got to squash his remaining feelings that he once had for her.
Jackson was once a good, kind hearted guy, now, not so much, he's a jerk towards women, one nights only, drinks until he forgets. He's full of rage and anger.
Kennedy used to have friends, centre of attention, out going. Now, she keeps her head down, goes to class, doesn't go out, stay in her apartment, going through the motions, surviving, not living.
Having no idea that Jackson would be at Blackthorn, thinking he'd be elsewhere. Knowing that Jillian's death was her fault, but in a way Jackson was at fault too, if he was there everything would have been alright.
Feeling that there's no pain she's alreading feeling, he can do his best to scare her. She's already falling down that rabbit hole. And go forget that Jackson was once her everything.
The only thing that takes her interest is creative writing and how Jillian used to love it.
Kennedy's parents are a piece of work.
Her father is more or less disgusted with her, since that night. Her mother does love her, and she loves her, but she doesn't stick up for her where her husband is concerned.
They're both suffering the same pain.
But Kennedy has secrets.
How will Jackson react to them?
Will they heal each other?
Or will Jackson just tear Kennedy apart until she's more of a shell than she already is?
For a darker read in this series it's such an emotional read. Quite the page turner.
