Toujours intéressant

. L’intrigue présente toujours un certain suspens à cause du très méchant Gregory et bien que l’on sache d’avance comment cela va se terminer. Cependant, j’ai trouvé qu’il y avait beaucoup de longueurs dans ce volume-ci et, par moments, j’avais hâte de le terminer.

A fantastic continuation to Maxim & Lennix’s story .

With book one ending on a cliffhanger for Lennix the dangerous situation continues through to the first part of the second book . I don’t think I’m giving a spoiler to say that it has a positive outcome ........or does it ? As there is the suggestion that ‘the fly in the ointment’ is still around so it’s only a matter of time before it re- emerges . Maxim is giving Owen his big brother his full support as expected Owen decides to run for president of the USA. All things seem to be going well for everyone but after an important function it turns out that Owen is in the wrong place at the wrong time and it leads to a catastrophic tragedy . As with book one there’s a lot going on in this one as well , it’s a massive emotional rollercoaster ride that instead of stopping for you to get off it just keeps on going taking you on a continual emotional ride of your life loop . There’s a lot of sadness ( yes I cried ) which in turn leads Maxim to take his life in a totally different direction ,but with the ghost from the past getting nearer can Maxim keep his beloved Nix safe ? . It has a superb ending with the added bonus of a cheeky little epilogue that can be downloaded and that Just’s puts the cherry on top of the cake. 😍😍

Again, there’s such depth to this book it’s hard to write a review without outlining a lot of the plot details. Spoiler alert!

The author takes us straight back into the action. Lennix has been kidnapped while completing a charity immunisation project in Costa Rica. The tension is piled on in the opening chapters and I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough.

Maxim organises a rescue and gets her back, but one of the kidnappers is still on the loose. Back in DC he does the lovable possessive and protective boyfriend thing, which, of course, Lennix finds stifling. In the meantime, the readers waits in anticipation, because it’s just a matter of time before the kidnappers strike again.

Lennix throws herself back into her job. She wants to keep their relationship secret because she’s running his brother’s presidential campaign. They try to make the relationship work despite both their hectic schedules. On top of it all, she’s suffering from PTSD, despite her positive outlook. I can’t help feeling that all those things combined are going to break them. Plus, I’m on tenterhooks waiting for Maxim’s dad to be revealed at the bad guy pulling the strings.

On a side note, there’s some really hot and steamy scenes between Lennix and Maxim. The plot, the characters, the tension, and the steam, all gel to make this a great read.

By half-way, the reader is nice and settled in, things are going well, then boom! Maxim’s brother is killed in a car bomb. Yep, the kidnapper is back and seeking revenge. First they lie low for a bit, then Maxim decides to run for president. Lennix wants to run the campaign, but enforces her strict rule of no sleeping with the candidates. (Sarcastic me: Hmmm, this will go well.)To avoid scandal they have to keep their hands off each other for a year.

They get outed, of course, and then Lennix has to decide if she is willing to make the necessary sacrifices that will enable them to be together, especially if he becomes the president:
“But will I have the chance to do something no one who looks like me has ever done before? And with a man I love more than everything else? A man who loves me the same way?”(Me: Just go for it!)

After all the angst and tension, the story ends with partial closure, leaving the reader to fill in the gaps. It’s little frustrating, but also a good ploy by the author. (I know there is a third book about a secondary character.) This book is well-written, balancing the political plot line and romance perfectly. The story covers a variety of issues: family, personal sacrifice, cultural values and privilege.

This is better than the first book, because there’s no need for the drawn out timeline and backstory. The tension is there from the start, both in the romance and the overall story. The way the plot played out in the first book led me to be on tenterhooks throughout this one. I was waiting for something to happen that would break them, but their dedication to each other in this book makes them unbreakable in the face of everything that hits them.

I can’t recommend this duet highly enough. Both books had me cheering, shouting in frustration, and on the verge of tears at various points. Spoiler alert: Maxim’s dad is not the bad guy, but it was a good red herring.

An exhilarating read

The second part of this duet is just as good as the first. I was drawn in from the first page and couldn’t put this book down. It, like ‘The Kingmaker’, was beautifully written and depicts a stunningly thought out and explored romance. Maxim and Lennix share a love which is highly addictive to the reader, they are each other’s perfect companion and solace in the challenges they face. The conclusion to their story took a few twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting but the action and suspense it introduced to the plot was just as engrossing as the romance element. This duet tackles and brings to light some difficult and very important topics resulting in a romance story that is so much more than just that. I really enjoyed both ‘The Kingmaker’ and ‘The Rebel King’, Maxim and Lennix are one of my favourite couples of the year so far and their story is one which isn’t easily forgotten.

You know when you start a book of Kennedy’s you are going to go on a journey, there will be bumps in the road, sometimes hills or mountains you have to scale to come out of the other side, not always in one piece. But somehow you know when you get to the end you will be whole again....almost.

But somehow it will leave a imprint on your heart.

This series was a journey for the mind and soul.

You could feel the passion lying beneath every single word, Kennedy it just awe inspiring.

The second book in the The KingMaker Series was everything we wanted and so much more. The research which must have gone into making this book, to ensure facts were....facts, speaks for itself.

This is a book of self discovery as much as self preservation, for more than one character.

Lennix is like an amazon warrior, set out to ensure the history of her Native American people does not get decimated.

Maxim the King of his own destiny, wants nothing more than to ensure Lennix gets where she needs to be.....however this was always going to be a struggle of the heart and minds of two very strong and stubborn people.

This truly was an amazing read and a journey that had many twists, some shocking and heartbreaking.

But this couldn’t have been the story it was without them.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒆𝒃𝒆𝒍 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈 quite simply is outstanding and ensured that this Duet is my top read of 2019. The trajectory of the story from the first chapter of THE KINGMAKER to the last page of THE REBEL KING is awe inspiring. Thematic layers depicting so very much in terms of thought and feeling and pivotal moments that shape the narrative and attack the reading heart. There is strength and power in the main protagonists and their life story and I have so much respect for their journey together which, as a complete entity, is utterly stunning.
