I purchased this one right after receiving the author’s newsletter without knowing what it was about other than the fact that it was book two in The Walker Brothers series and also because I'm a big fan of J. S. Scott's work. I have loved the first installment telling the story of Trace and this one was just as amazing. This book is a sexy and well-written romance about reformed player Sebastian Walker and junior attorney in the legal department at Walker Enterprises, Paige Rutledge.
Heartbroken and lost after losing his father and his new step-mother in a tragic plane crash that also left his youngest brother Dane horribly scared, Sebastian filled his life with sex, booze and weed. One past that earned him a bad reputation. A reputation of a professional partier, a player. Over a year ago Sebastian had moved to Denver from Texas and joined his elder brother Trace at Walker Industry, leaving his playboy days and frivolous life behind. Since he’d partnered in Walker, Sebastian has been fully committed to his job, trying to carve out his place in the company and wanting to become a valuable asset to the conglomerate. Not a single woman has pulled his interest away from business, until Paige. He’s immediately intrigued by her spunky attitude and mysterious demeanor, and something about her touches Sebastian in ways he's never experienced. Soon, Paige becomes a woman who consumed all his thoughts, a woman who makes protective and primitive instincts he didn't know he had flare to life inside him. He’s then determined to chase, to conquer her and to overcome the obstacles between them to be the man she deserves.
When Paige ends up in the same elevator as Sebastian on her first day at work, she deliberately doesn’t acknowledge his presence despite his blatant lustful interest and her unexpected and surprising physical reaction to him. Paige had dealt with things a woman should never have to deal with in a lifetime. She’d made it a habit to keep everything, every emotion well concealed. She’s a cautious, driven, nerdy woman, determined to climb the ladder. She has a plan, and she has every intention of making sure her life went according to schedule. And as a newbie in Sebastian’s company, she doesn’t want to mess that up. Paige’s also aware of his bad reputation and she has her reasons to hate wealthy and powerful men. But Sebastian’s relentless pursuit is difficult to ignore as the desire inside her she didn’t know she was capable of. Sebastian is nothing like she expected and her attraction to him was getting harder to deny by the day. No longer able to resist, Paige will quickly realize that Sebastian might be exactely what she needs and more importantly the one who can help her fight ghosts from her tragic past and move forward once and for all.
As always, this author never disappoints. J.S. Scott is a master at true romance with easy characters to cheer on. There is angst from the past, but the story focuses on the internal development of the main characters more than outside forces attacking to keep them apart. There is just enough edge to this story to keep you immersed in the book whilst also making it an easy read. I recommend this delicious book and series to anyone looking for a sweet, hot and very sexy read and all the elements you want in a romance. Can't wait for Dane's story.
