Lily LeBlanc isn’t versed in the art of casual sex, but after seven years in an on-again, off-again relationship, she’s definitely willing to give it a shot. And who better to try it with than her best friend’s boyfriend’s best friend? What could possibly go wrong?
NHL player, Randy Ballistic, lives up to his last name on the ice and in the bedroom. His best friend and teammate has recently given up the puck bunnies and traded them in for a real girlfriend. And she just happens to have a seriously feisty, extra-hot best friend on the rebound. Randy’s more than happy to be Lily’s spring board back into the dating scene.
But casual sex is only casual until those pesky things called emotions get involved. Once that happens, someone’s bound to get pucked over.

The plot line in one line: After Lily breaks up with her long-term, loser boyfriend, she and ice hockey player Randy embark on a sex-only relationship but develop feelings for one another.
The good and the bad: To cut to the chase, I imagine this is a book that young adults will enjoy but for us “middle aged” readers it’s lacking romance and emotion.
When I bought this book, I didn’t realise it was aimed at young adults but this quickly became apparent because of how much sex (and drinking) there is in it. Randy and Lily have a lot - A LOT - of incredible, perfect, out of this world sex, even getting through a large box of condoms in one night (*snort of derision*); and when she’s not doing it with Randy, Lily and her friends are talking about sex, almost obsessively (and even though one of the guys they are talking about is brother to one of the women in the friendship group).
I can imagine if I was in my early 20s, like the characters, I’d probably enjoy this aspect of the book, but as a reader in her 30s, I am into a bit more sexual tension, and I like my hot sex served with a side of emotion and a good dollop of back story.
At first the “screwing” was fine and I get that Randy and Lily are meant to have a casual thing going on, so there is not going to be a lot of emotion at the outset, but by the midway mark I was a bit bored with all the bonking. There was a dearth of scenes in which we see Randy and Lily actually connecting emotionally - ie, falling in love.
(Side note: A number of the sex scenes take place in bathrooms because Randy walks in on her - why does Lily never lock the door when she goes into one to shave her minge/use the loo? The one time she does lock the door, Randy still gets in - with no explanation how! And don’t get me started on the laundry room that has a lock, on the inside, that still doesn’t prevent entry!)
I was also not a fan of the romanticised unprotected sex scene: even dipping your wick halfway without a condom puts you at risk of diseases - and Randy is a well-know “man slut” - so I didn’t like how Hunting made out that going bare back was some overwhelming urge the characters could hardly resist and that Randy was somehow saving the day by pulling out when he “only” went halfway in. Later, when Lily contemplates going bare back with Randy again, it’s a little troubling that she starts justifying it in her own mind by noting “he hasn’t had sex with anyone else in a long time” - erm, some sexually transmitted diseases can live in the body for years!
Last thing about the nookie: I was amused by the first reference to the clitoris as a “marble”/“magic marble” and to Lily’s genitalia as the “Vagina Emporium” but after the umpteenth such reference, I felt like the author badly needed to get a thesaurus out.
Sex aside, I felt that time which could have been spent showing how Randy and Lily were developing feelings for each other was instead wasted on describing her friends and their boyfriends - which in itself was a confusing blend of best mates, siblings and step siblings - presumably to sell in the rest of the books in this series. (Side note: Lily’s friend Violet is obnoxious - I loathed her frequent, scene-dominating appearances.)
All this being said, I did find the book was otherwise written in an engaging style, and I did read it to the end (albeit I skimmed the final 20%). For that reason, I would read another Hunting novel ONLY IF it is aimed at an older audience.
That’s really it. That’s all.
Nah for real though: I wanted to read the rest of the books in this companion novel series to get glimpses of Violet and Alex from Book 1 because I thought I just loved them so much......BUT THEN LILY AND RANDY CAME AND BLEW THEN OUT THE RUNNING.
Firstly Lily is a badass, she is so strong and independent and tenacious and is just a breath of fresh air. She’s also slightly quirky which I’m coming to realise is a Helena Hunting trait and I love the characters for it.
Randy is a big muscular softie who when you get past the exterior is actually really vulnerable and had ALL THESE FEELINGS. He’s also got a good head on his shoulders and is kind and sweet and quite smart.
Seeing their relationship develop from FWB to realising they’re in love with each other: BEAUTIFUL, ICONIC, *chefs kiss*
Honestly if I could have 10 more books of just Randy and Lily I would 😭😭🥺🥺🥰🥰
Definitely rated 18 🔥🔥🔥
I laughed out loud, I shed a few tears, I developed wet panties and I simply fell in love with all things Randy and Lily....
Ms Hunting once again as used her words to draw me in and make me feel.... this was one hot, sexy, sweet ride which has left me needing more of Randy and Lily already.....
I already miss their sizzling hot chemistry, love for bathrooms and vagina prisons....
I simply can not wait to see what Helena Hunting gives next but I already know it will be a hot funny ride.... each book just keeps getting better and better ....
This is Randy and Lily's story, I think I fell in love with Randy as much as I did Alex, he is super hot and sensitive. Lusty and gorgeous and has a man bun and a beard- that did it for me !!! Lily is feisty and funny and has that same endearing something about her that Violet has. Randy and Lily's relationship starts off as just fun, a mean to a satisfying end sexual wise. The electric attraction between them is off the charts smoking hot and the more they get to know each other, the more attracted they become to each other and yet the more complicated life becomes for them both.
Talking about Violet we get more of her in this book than Pucked Up, and I for one am so grateful to meet up with my favourite bestie again. She is at her funniest and some of the one liners in the book are hilarious to the point I was laughing so hard- tears were running down my face, I couldn't see to read !!!
The girls night in chapters are some of the best and funniest I have ever read and I have to applaud Helena Hunting for this. She has a special talent I endear to and will always love.
I can't recommend this book enough, it is not to be missed along with the rest of this wonderful amazing series !!!
