Biographie de l'auteur
Alexis Fleming, 38, grew up in Kilmarnock and studied geography at Strathclyde University. She has worked as an animal rights campaigner and in 2013 she started a charity called Pounds for Poundies to help rescue unclaimed dogs from being put down which raised £10K in its first week. She's a committed vegan and, as well as the hospice, she also runs the Karass Sanctuary where she cares for neglected and terminally ill farm animals, many of which have been saved from the slaughterhouse.
Alexis's story has been covered by ITV, the BBC and has featured in The Sun and the Guardian. A short documentary called Crannog about the hospice premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and has been shown around the world. It was recently shortlisted for 'outstanding non-fiction short film' and is up for an award in New York this month (February 2020).
Last year Alexis was featured in BBC Three's 'Amazing Humans' series and a clip of her went viral.

I was really looking forward to read it, not only to support the wonderful Maggie Fleming Animal Hospice, which I've been knowing for about 4 years, but also because it's a real story, a heartfelt one.
It's as joyful as life can be, and as excruciating as death always is.
It's an incredible adventure, superbly well written.
It's intense, hilarious, bittersweet, wise, painful, exciting and honest.
I read it in a weekend as it was extremely fluid, and basically you can't keep but immerse yourself in it. And it's all worth it, from the first to the last page (lovely pictures included!).
Alexis is an amazing person, not only for founding the hospice while fighting for her own life, but also for being brave enough to lay bare her personal story, her struggles, her fears, and her mistakes. Because the hospice wouldn't exist without her personal journey.
It all takes one person's dream and determination to make the world a better place for many many souls.
If you're (or you know) an animal lover/advocate or on the contrary a person who doesn't know much about animals, a caregiver, a person with a cronic disease, a person struggling with mental health, a person who enjoys reading true stories... To all these people I would 100% recommend this book.
No life is too small, whether human or non-human, no matter how short it could be.
Love, care and company are the only things that truly counts, for everyone. Unfortunately, many animals have the opportunity to know what friendship is only for one day, the last day of their life.
Thank you, Alexis.
With a natural talent for writing, Alexis and her book will leave you with a restored faith in humanity. There are good people out there, and one of them wrote No Life Too Small.
I totally recommend purchasing the audio book as well and listening to it afterwards. The animal sound clips in between chapters are just perfect, and listening to all the conversations out loud will leave you smiling. Especially K the dog's noises.
The book and audio book should have a place in everyone's collection. Absolutely amazing.
