I enjoyed this book overall as a read. The storyline is good, and it tells a different type of story regarding Persephone and Hades. That's all I really liked about it.

There are a few grammatical errors, like missing commas and worlds in the wrong place. For example, the sentence will say her instead of him—only minor things. But if things like that bug you, then this is probably not the read for you.

The next thing is the whole take of it being a retelling of Persephone and Hades. The author could have called the two characters John and Jane, and you wouldn't know it was a retelling. The only things that do tell you are the names of the characters and the map of Olympus. The author makes slight references to the story of Persephone and Hades, e.g. pomegranates, Persephone only staying for the winter, the one reference to her being the queen of the underworld and Hades being shunned. But there is no fantasy within this book. THey're not gods with godly powers; they're humans with godlike names. That's it.

This not having the fantasy element took something away from this for me, and it made me question the point of having the whole Greek Gods element in the first place. The author should have just made up her own world because once you take the Greek mythology out of the book, it is just a romance book. That thought was the only thing that got me through the book. I had to think of it as not a retelling because it wasn't. It took all the danger and the premise of why Hades and Persephone were forbidden and why it was so strange for Hades to fall for someone like Persephone. It took all that out. I get the author was probably trying to make it her own, but she could have just made her own original story with her own original characters and ideas; after all, 70% of the book was that.

A good retelling for Hades and Persephone is A Touch of Darkness.

The deal these two make is quite simple - Persephone will belong to Hades for 3 months, which will also help him avenge the man who killed his parents. And belong to him she does - in every sense of the word and boy was it HOT HOT HOT
.
Let me tell you Katee could re write the entire Greek Mythology and I would read it. If this has been on your radar at all, this is your sign to read it

Plot non-existent and overshadowed by constant passionless sex scenes

I really wanted to like this book as I love mythology retelling. I don't want to be mean and destroy the author verbally, because I appreciate the amount of hard work that goes into writing a book. So as short as the title of my review, the actual review will be. This book didn't live up to the hype, which might just be my personal opinion. It was an awkwardly quick turn of events that led to a lot of sex scenes. It felt like it tried too hard to be 50 Shades of Gray. Both MCs weren't intriguing enough for me unfortunately. But hey, if you fancy a quick, spicy read, which by all means there is a time and place for it, this might be for you.

Persephone Dimitriou is tired of her life in the City of Olympus. She is disgusted by the trading of people, services and mayhem displayed by the power-hungry ruling Thirteen. Especially as her mother Demeter, who she once trusted, has become one of them. She has a plan - when she comes of age and receives her inheritance she will leave the city and search for a life outside the confines of backstabbing and murder in Olympus. When her mother springs a surprise betrothal to Zeus on her to become the new Hera, Persephone must take drastic action. Zeus is rumoured to have killed his previous wives and treats everyone like pawns and she wants no part in that life.

Without man options, she flees across the River Styx to the Lower City. She seeks refuge from Hades who has been shrouded in rumour and myth. But Hades is very real. In exchange for his protection, Persphone agrees to bind herself to him. In return, Hades will use her to seek his revenge on Zeus for the murder of his family and deliver payback that was years in the making.

The more time they spend together the harder it is for Hades to resist his need for Persephone and for Persephone to suppress the awakening of her darker sexual fantasies. As the pair's desire grows stronger, Hades is willing to risk all-out war to keep his city safe and the woman he craves at his side. Meanwhile, Persephone must make hard decisions about what she is willing to do to protect her sisters and the man she is falling in love with.

🌟🌟🌟🌟. Phew, that was hot. The chemistry and banter between Hades and Persphone are hot and heavy from the beginning. I loved how Hades' darker instincts manifest themselves in his creative and seductive sexuality as well as his restraint on his violent physical impulses while showing his caring and protective personality in his loyalty and treatment of his people. Persephone is smart, adventurous and determined. I like that she held her own against the Thirteen including challenging Hades and not cowering to Zeus or her mother. Overall a sexy, delicious and action-packed story.

A stunning Hades & Persephone retelling. It’s has some of my favourite themes & tropes: Fake Dating, Forbidden Romance and of course the perfect modern twist to one of the greatest love stories ever told.

This book is thrilling, dark, gritty; sexy, fun and full of sizzling chemistry. The romance was breathtaking! There’s lots of steamy scenes but it was all plot driven and written skilfully rather than for the sake of including smutt to please readers. There’s a nice balance of sexual tension and emotional connection between Hades and Persephone. I felt the connection between them both from the very start and became enraptured by their unique and strong personalities and beautiful relationship.

I found it refreshing how a lot of the characters were casually queer (including the two MCs). There’s also pan/bisexual characters and an asexual character. And what I loved was that all the characters were well developed and likeable (even the antagonists and morally grey ones). I also really liked all the subtle allusions to Greek mythology and the way in which the writer brought it all into a very believable modern setting.
