The witness-protection program has given me the fresh start of which I've always dreamed. A new home. A new name. A new life. For the first time in 10 years, it feels like I can breathe again.
But the cost of freedom is more than I bargained for. I put my foster father behind bars. It doesn't matter that he deserved it. What matters is that he's powerful, manipulative, and now, he wants me dead.
I can feel someone watching me. I know my time is running out. The only other person who cares if I live or die is a masked stranger. So I'm putting my life in the vigilante's hands - and maybe a piece of my heart along with it. Even though I'm worried that he's just as dangerous as the man I sent to prison.

The bones of the story are great. It captivates you and keeps you turning the pages. You just want to know what happened to Summer/Sadie and are rooting for a reunion with Miles.
Then it starts to get all a bit too unbelievable and far fetched. But even putting that aside I felt myself becoming frustrated with how long it seemed to be taking to get any real clues or answers as to where everything was heading.
You get to the end of the book at about 90% and are left on a real cliff hanger. I love a good cliff hanger but on this occassion I was left with a real dilemmer as to whether to risk buying the 2nd book. At this point £5 seems a lot and another £5 for the third installment again seems a lot.
I have taken the leap so I guess we'll see if it was worth it.

The author has a knack of drawing you in from the start. The hints at Summers past make you want to find out what happened and you aren’t disappointed. Not only to to read what happens to the young woman, but the emotional strain comes across perfectly. Who to trust, who not to trust, makes you, as a reader question everything. Who is the man behind the mask? I’m not giving any spoilers.
Character growth is portrayed well. Summer needs to adapt to a new environment and the author brings out all the doubts she has. The fears come across well as she ends up in turmoil. In fact, I couldn’t help feeling the the girl. A sign, I find, of a good author.
Pace is good, descriptions kept to the point. And told in one POV.
All in all, this is an easy read. A fantastic plot which keeps you hooked, yet, you don’t have to concentrate to hard.
Yes,there is a cliff-hanger, but I found myself so enthralled I had to buy the other two in the series. And can’t wait to co plate summer’s journey. I feel I’ll miss her once finished.
This is one I’d give a lot more than 5 stars too if I could. All done Ivy.

The story is ultimately about Summer and Miles who we learn at the beginning are childhood best friends, until tragedy strikes. Summer’s life unravels. She loses contact with Miles. The story picks up when Summer is 18 starting university and we begin to find out how life has treated her and get to witness the massive repercussions that follow. Her fresh start doesn’t last long and her traumatic past starts to catch up with her.
Much as I didn’t want to buy all 3 books, I found myself drawn into the mystery and really needed to know the ending although I admit I felt it was a bit unrealistic in places. However the many twists and turns kept me on my toes; every time I thought I’d worked something out, I found that i was wrong! Whilst I did start to piece some things together towards the end, there were still some unexpected surprises.
