He was awarded a Purple Heart for his wounds, and also received a Combat Infantryman's Badge. This was a really lovely story, second chance love with a sweet happy-go-lucky girl and a sensitive but tough man.

I loved Katie and Devin, they were just so right for each other, both making some very wrong decision n their lives although not at the same time.

We meet them briefly as 18 year old sweethearts, with both their lives about to change forever.

We meet back up with them 10 years later, when Katie wakes up from a fatal accident, she survives but finds out she lost her papa. A very heartbreaking time.

So her therapist encourages to write as penpals to a serving soldier.

Fate put Dev's name on that list and Katie is thrown into turmoil, she still carries a torch for him, but he walked away 10 years earlier and she had not heard from him once.

She takes time to work out her true feelings whilst grieving her dad, but she is a very angry lady holding onto so much hate.

Her first letter hers her Soldier everything she has been holding onto for 10 years, just wanting closure, when she gets a heck of a lot more than she bargained for. I loved watching her grow and open herself up to the new feelings she is having. Including taking back her life, she has been in a state of unfeeling, blocking everything out.

We re-meet Devin, as a Soldier and learn that he made a huge mistake 10 years earlier, we learn about the man he grew up to be. Still sensitive but hardened up to the hurt from his Mom, and what he has witnessed at war.

He replied to Katie, and you begin to see them both beginning to live again, breaking down walls as they work through 10 years of the hate, love ad hardships they have both endured.

I loved how they both tried to keep things as neutral as they could, even though they both failed!

The heart knows who and what it wants. You just have to give into its demands and go with it. I am so glad they both took a chance.

Their love had been put away, only temporarily, but when they both opened back up - Awe it was truly beautiful - there was collateral damage, but true love always wins out.

I really loved Maggie, she was a real hoot and so glad Dev had Nav in his life, such good friends.

This was a really happy to goodness love story, based on real life and real life situations, we get to understand life as a deployed Soldier a little, that is a hard life and full RESPECT to all serving personnel. I am affiliated with sending Morale boxes to men and women serving our Country, actually I have supported/adopted US and UK soldiers. I love sending 'Hugs' to the guys, letting them know they are thought about by people other than their friends and families. Sorry I digressed....

This was a roller coaster, my emotions were all over the place and you both bashed my heart open, but you did put it back together, piece by piece.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, Goodness knows how hard it was to write. I am really glad you collaborated ! We got two very different versions of their truths.

This book has completely blown me away! My emotions were fired by the end of the book, and I loved every minute of it! I laughed, I cried, I gasped and I sighed. KL and BT have created a masterpiece and I would love it if there's another another book created by them. This book incorporates the horror of war and the love of two soul-mates in such a beautiful way that'll stay with you for life. This book is my forever sort of book, and I am so glad that I read it!

Katie is a woman who has dealt with heartbreak in her 27 years of life. She is selfless, emotional and warm-hearted. The grief that Katie goes through is heart-wrenching and I could feel her pain as well as her anger. How would you cope knowing the one man who loved you unconditionally is gone? Her journey throughout the process was wonderful to read, but also lightened your heart and wanted her to have the best in life! She deserved the man of her dreams, but does she get him? You have to read to find out!
Devin (love his name) is a young man who has seen things no young child and young man should ever see. Even after all of his horrors, he is a strong, kind and dedicated man, and he carries these features through to his army persona. Reading about his time in the army really put it into perspective, as BT and KL wrote those scenes in such a realistic and enlightening way that makes you wish that no-one had to fight in it. I cried over the scenes that were written, and that made the book even more memorable and the forever kind of book.

This book was written wonderfully, made me continue reading no matter what and will stay with me. I will be recommending this book to anyone and everyone as needs to read this book. BT's debut as an author is amazing and I cannot wait to read more from him. KL has such a beautiful writing style that keeps you engaged and transport you into the book. This book deserved more than 5 stars and I will be raving for a while about A Lover's Lament!

It's very difficult for me to put into words just how much I loved this story and I don't think anything I do say will truly give it the justice it deserves.
What Urruela and Grayson has produced together is story so full of emotion it pulls you in from the start and refuses to release you from its grasp. You wouldn't have guessed that 2 authors wrote this. It was blended perfectly.

Being a military wife, I connected with Katie a lot and understood all the anguish and worry she had during Devin's deployment. The letters, emails and phone calls (no matter how short) were the most anticipated, beautiful and lifesaving things to happen and I seen myself reflecting on the time my husband was deployed and how much I looked forward to them. They made me smile, laugh and cry.

A truly beautiful story of love, loss, hope and everything happens for a reason. A brilliantly written story that will knock you on your ass and leave you in tears but so, so happy at the same time.

oh boy! this beautiful, heart breaking story has you from the first few words. you just don't want to put it down until the end, you just have to know what happens and even though you may have some guesses to what might you still keep reading. its intense, powerful, traumatic, sad. the combat scenes are so real you feel the tiredness, the boredom, the fear, the hatred and the heat. it makes you want to stop any other military going to these places and going through any of this, stop any one else being shot, blown up, killed, injured or being taken hostage. I read with my heart in my throat, tears running down my face, praying for Devin and Katie, and the other men in his squad knowing that maybe not all would come home. I want to say so much more but don't want to spoil the book for others, so please if you look at reviews before buying a book give this a try. I cant see that anyone wouldn't love it as much as I did, it really brings it to life what these brave men and women go through fighting for us, our countries. what its like for families to have to carry on at home while they are away. there is just so much in here, so many issues that they face both together and apart. well done K L Grayson and B T Urruela for this amazing outstanding story, thankyou for writing it and a massive thankyou to B T and others like him that serve our countries

This book just owned me from the start. A beautiful and heart felt story.
Katie and Devin were childhood sweethearts then they separated and never saw each other for years.
Devin became a Soilder and Katie got back in touch with him. Under some extreme circumstances, they found each other again.
Anyway they've never stopped loving each other and anyone could tell the feelings they had were still as strong.
There relationship really moved me. It showed real love can stand the test of time.
Some of Devins parts really got to me, they were so real the way they were written was brutally honest and I felt we got an insight to what a Soilders life is really like. It's ugly and hard. The bonds these guys forge is real and strong. They are a family.
I loved the interaction, how they try to keep each other's spirts up, under the worst of situations.
This book will stay with me, it's emotionally charged and even though there are some tragedies, War isn't pretty let's be honest. There's also humour and beauty too.
I just love Katie and Devin they are just perfect for each other.
I loved this book so much. I'd recommend anyone to give this Story a try. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I did.
