this was a good book ,it was a factual murder case in germany ,not recent, i dont want to give the story away ,the only reason i wpuldnt buy it again is because ,it was,nt long enough ,so if you like your murder mysteries short ,this is the book for you

When his teen-age daughter dies mysteriously while living with her mother and her new step-father in Germany, Andre Bamberski is shocked and seems to be the only one willing to ask questions and seek answers. This father soon grows suspicious of the step-father, Dieter Krombach, and what follows is a personal and stead-fast quest for justice, despite being twarted at almost every move, either by Krombach himself, or by governments and police, whether knowingly or unknowingly.

This kindle single recounts Bamberski's search for justice and his admitted obsession with Krombach which spanned from Kalinka's death in 1982 to only just recently when Krombach was brought to trial in October, 2011. It's amazing this father's determination and will to see Kalinka rest at peace and to have his own mind finally rest easy. The burden this man carried was an ungiving weight but he never unshouldered it.

I can only imagine how it must feel to lose a child under any circumstance, but to think that child may have been taken from you by someone else's wrong-doing would eat away at you everyday. To know that the person who caused her death lives free and without impunity would drive a soul to desperate acts, I'm sure. From my own perspective, I don't know how Bamberski kept from doing something completely vengeful and very final. I don't know if I could have resisted, given what subsequent investigation revealed. To my mind, Bamberski was remarkably controlled.

This is a thought-provoking read, leading me to ask myself just what would I do if I thought that my only daughter had been murdered? How long would I pursue justice, and would I really do anything differently than this father did? It made me consider my own moral compass and just what would I do in order to bring to justice the man I held responsible. While I know we have laws for a reason, I do happen to believe that sometimes something that is right is not necessarily what is legal. And this single begs the question that if Bamberski had not done something 'wrong' to get to a right, would Krombach be where he is today?

At just over 400 kindle locations, this is a quick read that held my interest thoughout. The writing here is tight and precise, documenting it all, but it's more that just a bare reporting of facts about a true crime story. There is a sense of emotion to it all, of pain, frustration and despair. What really could have been a lost cause turned out to be a long-delayed but deserved win for a young girl silenced and unable to tell her story. And it's very much a story worth listening to.

I would have done exactly as Bamberski did - go to the ends of the earth and back to resolve my daughter's death. I have no children but surely there isn't a person on earth that would not identify with this heartbreaking story. You will find yourself screaming at the governments involved in this story. You will feel Bamberski's pain and driving force. To think about the timeframe involved with ensuing events from the moment this child died is horrifying. Highest of kudos to Hammer for this spellbinding story. Thank God there are those out there investigating and documenting and reporting on their findings. One can only imagine the untold stories of real life tragedies. And to think as of the writing of this story there was still no complete closure in the courts. Our solace must be that Bamberski believes in his heart that Kalinka followed every step of his heartache, and that she somehow has given him some "signs" that she is OK and that he did everything right.

As parents we often watch our children drive off with friends or leave on a vacation and we hope and pray that they remain safe while out of our watch. We look at our kids and say, "I don't know what I would do if anything happened to you." This is one man's story of how he faced that awful situation and then fought for decades to bring justice for Kalinka.

It's a shocking tale and unimaginable that these circumstances could have actually happened. Reading this story will help you appreciate all the of people out in the world who fight hard for the truth. And keep fighting after everyone else tells them to give up. And then fight even harder when all odds are against them. It will also make you hug your kids a little tighter.

Very interesting look into a father's dedication to bring his daughter's killer to justice, even after it literally consumes more than half his life.

The single is well-written and easy to read, has a compelling story line and a fast pace.

Honestly, the only complaint I could possibly have here, and the reason I did not give it more stars was the fact that the story itself really begs for so much more than a single.

Both men in this story are fascinating and led interesting lives long before their paths crossed. After Kalinka is murdered, the story AGAIN begs for so much more detail about what both of these men did in the interim between Kalinka's death and what was a modicum of justice for this young murdered girl, whom you never really get to know much about.

It was more like reading a great Newsweek story or fully fledged NYT story, not a bad thing, but it left me wanting so much more.

The Kalinka Affair is a heartfelt story of a father's quest to hunt down his daughter's killer and bring him to justice! His unconditional love for her nearly brings him to his knees as he spends years trying to find him and loses everything that he had earned to find justice for his beloved Kalinka. His devotion to her is the fuel that drives him to hunt down her killer. One marvels at his strength, endurance and perseverance to continue on despite losing everything.

Kindle single, very quick read. Story of a father who never relents on getting his daughter's step-father, a narcissistic physician, convicted of her murder. That it took three decades to get justice for Kalinka is unpardonable. This physician was the worst of the worst, he drugged and molested other young girls and women over decades. Some of these girls and women were his patients. Shameful!!!

The story was emotional with details, but as with all such events, there is always that element of doubt. The author wanted to show the father of the murdered girl story. If there were interview with the accused and now convicted person, it did not say. What would a jury say today?
