She obtained a degree in Communication at the University of Potchefstroom and followed a diverse career path in journalism, public relations, advertising, communication, and brand marketing. Her writing has always been an integral part of her professions.

When she moved to Chile with her French husband, she started writing full-time. She has been publishing novels and short stories since 2011.

Intense, passionnante et imprévisible fin.

Maintenant que Leon sait que Violet l’a trahi (même s’il ne connait pas ses raisons), il veut qu’elle serve de vengeance. Elle sait qu’elle va subir une colère immense mais pas comment. Le récit est parfois difficile à lire pour ce que subit Violet, mais cela n’empêche pas la romance d’être très réussie, tout en vengeance, manipulations, complot.

Extremely predictable, almost boring. However, I suppose it’s to be expected with these types of novels; if I hadn’t have read such similar storylines in the past, I don’t doubt that I wouldn’t found this series more engaging.

This is the second part of the Beauty in Imperfection duology and also the conclusion to the Diamond Magnate series, with – spoiler alert – a big family reunion at the end with all four of the Hart siblings reunited.

Book one ended with Leon finding out that Violet has betrayed him. He assumes that she did it in order to escape marriage with him, not realizing that Violet was being blackmailed by her sleazy stepbrother and that she didn’t have much of a choice if she wanted to save her mother. So now Leon wants to get Violet in his power (and his bed) all the more and forces her to go along with his marriage plans. He is determined to stay all cold and emotionally unaffected and to punish Violet for what he thinks she did to him and because Violet feels so bad about what she did do (albeit under threat), she lets him get away with it, at least for a time. At some point Violet has had enough, and when Leon continues to keep his emotional distance and just wants to indulge in the physical side of things, Violet takes what he’s willing to give to satisfy her own passions and lets if fuel her creativity.

But Leon is a big old softie at heart. Even though he is not above exerting psychological pressure on Violet he never lays a finger on her (in violence), quite the opposite actually: he goes out of his way to look after her every need, starting with researching and getting her a car that she can drive comfortably, getting a new mattress that is best suited for her disability, encouraging her to pursue her professional dreams and setting up a meeting with potential employers and helping her overcome her trauma with guns. He does all that while still trying to remain emotionally aloof. But when he realizes how much he is hurting Violet with the emotional distance, he caves… but before there can be a HEA there is the blackmail-threat to be dealt with once and for all, Violet’s mom needs to be rescued from her abusive marriage, Leon will take his revenge on her stepbrother and her stepfather, and above all, Violet and Leon need to learn to trust each other (again)…

What I really love about Charmaine Pauls’ stories (aside from the exotic South African setting) is that in a dark and unjust world still dominated by patriarchal structures which are so oppressive to women, there is always this spark of female empowerment that manages to flourish against all odds. Kudos to Leon for nourishing that spark and to Pauls for giving us such stories of hope.

Prefect ending not only to Leon and Violet's story, but for all the siblings. There is just a way the author draws in the reader with her characters that makes you want to be part of their inner circle. I loved the bar scene (#2), so many emotions and so well told. The hurt, the yearning for love, the fear of loneliness all communicated in a few pages. To the author, well done. To potential readers, I recommend you start at the beginning of the stories of these brothers and sister and read your heart out. It will be worth it.

Adventures were slow in coming in book two. Expected action to keep escalating after the cliff hanging and to book one. Understand the need for author's use of filler subjects to extend a book but it is still boring and takes the zing, intrigue and excitement out of reading. The neighbors and fertility issue is an example. Length of time for Leon to activate virus and destroy Gus and Elliott. A top programmer always had safeguards in place to insure against theft. Would have been interesting to see glitches in stolen program all along. Once again our lovers have longstanding flaws from childhood but I have great admiration for maturity exhibited by Leon. Duet is still worth reading.

Imperfect Affections is stunning. This is the second book in the Beauty In Imperfection series. We left off with Leon's program was stolen by Elliot through Violet. Will Leon get his revenge on all that has deceived him? This book was sexy, alluring, and intriguing. A wild ride of lies, sex, sacrifices, lust, and vengeance. I loved this book, it was just as good as the first. The characters were great. Charmaine Pauls did a wonderful job with this series. If you are looking for an Imperfect romance, then this duet is for you.
