The book is the first to be co-authored by BT Urruela and Anne Malcom and while I adore Anne's writing, I'm a total stranger to Urruela's to comment too much. The story follows Orion Darby, a young woman held in captivity for ten years and her transition into the outside world. To go into anymore detail would give away waaaaay too much.
I hesitate to really focus on the romance of this book because it's not the priority in the story (and thank Heavens, it's so much stronger for it) but I felt the characters and their relationships were done superbly and there really were moments were I felt completely punched in the feels.
I would feel more inclined to call this a character study as opposed to a horror or romance, but do not let that deter you, this one is worth the read.

It was fabulous 😍 I couldn't put it down and the path that Orion and Maddox had to walk was everything and more.
I felt as though I was right there with them. The writing was a work of art and whilst gritty and harsh and unbelievably hard to imagine what someone felt whilst going through the trauma that Orion went through you felt her spine of steel and o was rooting for her the whole way through.
Everyone deals with things differently and I love the strength that she showed throughout the story.
I loved everything about this book and would love to see more from them both!

This story is told by two authors, they blend so well together you don’t know where one finishes and the other picks up. It’s a masterpiece of narration. Told in third person, the narrator holds the hand of the reader like Virgilio to Dante acting as a guide through this Hell on earth.

Anne Malcolm and BT Urruela unravel the sick underworld of sex trafficking. However, their approach to the subject diverges from the usual victim and assailant trope. The third-person limited, and times almost a hint of omniscient point of view, allows for the reader to experience the disconnect Orion has with her abuse during childhood and in captivity, It's a unique perspective which certainly proved to be a winner in taking the author's craft of tone and delivering the proper mood. The selection of Orion as a name is brilliant. It strengthens characterization and builds the resilience needed to cope with such a tragedy. Malcolm and Urruela bring a richness to the psychological damage not recognized by most in the face of the deepest scars left behind from those captured and toyed within the sex trafficking world. While Orion represents the wisdom learned through the eyes of a victim, Maddox juxtaposes her to the true north of justice. The brilliance of the work exists in the paradox which unfolds between the hunter and the prey.

I will be honest. I had to stop part way through the book and take a break. It wasn't any reason on the authors part, it was the heaviness of the content. There are so many people that unfortunately end up like Jaclyn. There are some lucky ones that end up like Shelby. I do believe that there are many that would like to do what Orion does. This book does more than just tell a story, it points out a lot of injustices in our very broken system.
Be prepared for that ending...it's a doozy.
