This book hooked me from page one. The concept was so cool; she sees a groom being jilted at his wedding and something about him draws her to invite him into her car to spirit away. Unbeknownst to her, he is a candidate for the upcoming mayoral elections and she is immediately granted the nickname "Getaway Girl" by the press. It's always fun when a book sets up the concept right at the start so clearly, so everything you've assumed from the title and gleaned from the blurb is sorted, leaving the reader with the wonderful prospect of unfurling each piece of the story with fresh eyes.

Addison Potts is a fabulous heroine. Sarcastic and always ready with a quip, but betraying a vulnerability that I fell in love with right away. Her backstory is laid out slowly and is the reason for her fronting, and the threads of her links to the city, through her absent mother and late grandmother, are woven in neatly and something she must resolve as she takes on board the ornament business and home she was left to take care of. Her friendship with Elijah, our hero, was so refreshing. They were so easy with each other right from the start and every interaction they had brought me such joy to read. He was a dream, but I wanted to shake him sometimes; he knew he had been sleepwalking through life and hitting relationship milestones at the rough time he expected to. Meeting Addison, or Goose as he affectionately calls her, is the catalyst for him to understand what it truly means to love someone.

This is a fantastic book featuring a pair of quick new friends turning to lovers and navigating what that means to them both with their baggage. It's heartwarming, steamy and emotional, with a neatly wrapped ending. It was my first Tessa Bailey, but it WON'T be the last, especially as I know that Naomi's story is told in another of her books!

I enjoyed the story! I seem to love everything by Tessa Bailey, so I'm not surprised. This book has some real laugh out loud moments but also a couple that, on the right day, could have me shedding a tear or two (that day was today, btw).

I thought the female narrator was great. She was super animated and fun to listen to - the guy...only slightly less! His accent/voice felt a bit too gentle at times for all the dirty talk.

Still, I loved this book and finished it in one evening.

I really enjoyed this book. The audiobook however is not one I would recommend. The male narrators voice is fine (not great, but it did the job) but the female narration was whiny and did a baby voice which totally took me out the story and made me cringe.

That said, this was still a great friends to lover story and it was funny, steamy and everything I want and need from someone who's quickly becoming a favourite author.

This book just enthralled me from the start and didn’t let me go till it was finished. Not sure who I loved the most, captain or moose, yes how great were their names for one another. Moose just had me by the heartstrings but how strong was she without resorting to being a bitch. Great dialogue and captain, yeh where can I find one? Well played and well written story by this author. Off to find my next hit.

I struggled to read this book at first. I enjoyed it, but not enough to carry on reading. I think I got to the middle before I moved on to reading something else. A few months later, I thought, I need to finish the book; can’t have a book left unread, especially from Tessa Bailey. So, I carried on reading. And the last half really pulled me in! I loved the ending, which is why I’m giving 4 stars. Hopefully when I reread this story, I won’t have a break when reading.
