NYT best-selling author Carrie Ann Ryan continues Lyric’s epic journey in this spellbinding sequel to From Breath and Ruin.
Lyric lost her past, her friends, and even her connections to both worlds when she found out about the Maison realm and her calling. But now she must put that aside and travel back to the Maison realm to continue her training as the Spirit Priestess. Only her journey isn’t to Rhodes and those she fought alongside before. This time, Easton and the other Obscurité warriors will stand by her side as she tries to unlock her final three elements.
However, just as she starts to learn more about what she’s been prophesied to do, a Seer’s wish and the calling of the Lumière kingdom calls her forth, thrusting Lyric into another journey where she must trust those on both sides of the age-old war to survive…and keep those she loves safe.

Lyric, now 18, has spent the last year in the human realm training with Alura and going to college. Although, going to college is kind of pointless since her destiny is in the Mason realm. Its time to go back though and she is as nervous and unsure about her future as she ever was. Lyric has spent the last year reading about the history of the Mason realm through a book Rosamond gave her and training with the elements that she does have. She has missed Rose and Rhodes and while she has kept in contact with Rosamond through letters she hasn't heard from Rhodes or Easton for that matter.
Lyric spends a good while in the Fire Estate training and learning from new friends Wyn, Teagan, Arwin and of course when Easton decided that she was worth the time. When Lyric is summoned to the Lumiere Kingdom is when things take a turn for the worse. Things are never how they seem and when she enters the water kingdom something is off as a sense of takes hold of Lyric and the others. It seems that not everyone wants the Spirit Priestess there and Lyric along with others have to fight for their lives and the lives of everyone in the Mason realm.
While some questions from From Breath and Ruin were answered in book two so many more questions have come up....

Despite her losses, she knew that she needed to continue her training as the Spirit Priestess. She had a very interesting dream, one that only reinforced what she already knew. She had to go back to the Maison realm in order to unlock her remaining powers. She needed Easton (King of Obscurité), his loved ones and his warriors' help yet she wasn't making things easy for the young King. Just as she started to learn more about who she was destined to be. An incident threw her into another unknown journey, she had to really on the Lumière and Obscurité Kingdoms.
Easton, the new King and ruler of the Obscurité Kingdom had to make sure that his people were okay after what was done to them by a greedy and cruel knight. He had his hands full, he also wanted Lyric to get stronger for what was heading their way. The woman got under his skin and he didn't know how to act around her. So he came across as insensitive when all he wanted was get to know and protect her.
Braelynn formerly a human was now a polydactyl cat and Lyric's familiar, she was still her best-friend, come what may. I liked the relation Lyric and Rhodes had but I loved the dept of the bond she shared with Easton. Even though it was hard for her to read his emotions sometimes. They were facing a new threat, one they never expected. The foe was someone close to Lyric's friends, the betrayal, anger and devastation they all felt was done beautifully.
It was a deligh tk catch up with some old friends and meet new ones. Lyric's journey isn't over YET, I can't wait to see what awaits her and her allies next ;).
FROM FLAME AND ASH is the second book in Carrie Ann Ryan's ELEMENTS OF FIVE series. It was fast-paced, intriguing, alluring and mind-blowing. Carrie Ann Ryan did a glorious job! 5++++

This book takes place about a year after the ending of the first story. And Lyric is confused, adrift, not sure where to go, or what to do from here. It's a waiting game, but she's doing what she can to prepare herself for what she knows is coming. She knows it's something big, momentous, dangerous, she just doesn't know what is waiting for her, or if she is going to come out on the other side of it. She has been told that the is the prophesied one, the one to save their world, but she isn't sure if she believes it, or if she is capable of doing what they are expecting of her. But she is going to try.
This book was absolutely amazing. The author did a fabulous job of conveying Lyric's feelings of confusion, and helplessness throughout the book. I could completely feel what she was feeling, feel the anticipation for what was coming, feel the fear of the unknown. The events of this book kept me on my toes, kept my heart pounding from the first word, until the explosive ending that totally blew my mind! (I never, in a million years, saw that ending coming!) I will be waiting on tenterhooks for the next book in the series to hit my kindle!

Dark and Light have been at war for so long, most have forgotten why they were split, to begin with. Lyric is the girl who is destined to save them all. She brings with her friends she has forged on both sides of the war. Including a love triangle in the making that kept me guessing throughout the book. Elemental battles rage across the pages. Some friendships are made to last, while others crumble around Lyric leaving her feeling betrayed by her magic.
The writing is so clear and descriptive my mind immediately began building the world Carrie Ann Ryan had created. The ease of conversations between the characters and flow from one setting to another was so smooth, it felt like I was there.
This is the second book in the series. While you might not need to read book one to follow the storyline of book two, I recommend starting at the beginning to build a better understanding of the characters and where they come from. Book one and two have been added to my personal library. I’m eagerly awaiting the next book in the series, From Spirit and Binding.
