The repercussions of an illicit affair unfold in this short story by bestselling author Taylor Jenkins Reid.
Dear stranger…
A desperate young woman in Southern California sits down to write a letter to a man she’s never met - a choice that will forever change both their lives.
My heart goes out to you, David. Even though I do not know you…
The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here.
Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

David discovers through a letter from a stranger, Carrie, that his wife has being an affair. Told through the art of letter writing, we follow Carrie & David on a journey of self discovery, acceptance and anger as they deal with the aftermath of spousal cheating.
Pro:
▫️A lovely short story that I devoured in a little over an hour.
▫️ The story is told through letters written between two people who share a mutual bond. It’s powerful and equally heartbreaking to read them. I have to wonder if TJR has experienced this herself to be able to communicate such raw emotions.
▫️The MCs are relatable, they make human mistakes and show real emotion.
Con:
▫️The story ends abruptly, in fact, it left me wanting more - perhaps the mere fact that I’m still thinking about it hours later is what TJR wanted readers to do? Also, the end didn’t feel in character, it just felt like it ended that way for shock factor?
Available on Kindle Unlimited to read & listen :).

I was a little apprehensive about selecting this book because of the author, as I've read two of her books previously, hating one and liking the other. This may be my favourite by Taylor Jenkins Reid, wanting this to go further and for it to be longer.

The characters were 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 and it was nice to see both of their points of view throughout, with the addition of their spouses. The 𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 really came through in the writing - you could feel it all.
Now, this is where the 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙨 (̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶m̶o̶a̶n̶s̶)̶ come in - so stop reading if you’re planning on trying the story.
The subject matter was marital affairs, and although portrayed well for the most part - some parts seemed a little 𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙙. That may just be a 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚 to a short story though, a longer/full length version may have not seen it as much.
But, the ending 𝙢𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙙 me slightly. I was in a state of, two wrongs don’t make a right, you literally ran away and didn’t tell a man about his baby, what the 𝙛𝙪𝙘𝙠 happens now?! And this is why it got the lower rating (also another downside to a short story - 𝙄 𝙉𝙀𝙀𝘿 𝙈𝙊𝙍𝙀!)
⭐️⭐️⭐️& a half✨

I
Evidence of the Affair is a short story, approximately 88 pages long, written in the form of letters between the two main characters who discover that their respective spouses are having an affair with each other. The story is genuine and emotional without begin overly sentimental. I look forward to reading more of her books,

It’s a delicious short story. Letters sent. Letters read. Hearts on pages.
I’m so happy for Carrie.
