He was the most beautiful man in Olympus...and if I wasn't careful, he was going to be my death.
*A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Psyche and Eros that's as sinful as it is sweet.*
In the ultra-modern city of Olympus, there's always a price to pay. Psyche Dimitriou knew she'd have to face Aphrodite's jealous rage eventually, but she never expected her literal heart to be at stake...or for Aphrodite's gorgeous son to be the one ordered to strike the killing blow.
Eros has no problem shedding blood. Raised to be his mother's knife in the dark, he's been conditioned to accept that he's more monster than man. But when it comes time to take out his latest target...he can't do it. Confused by his reaction to Psyche's unexpected kindness, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he binds her to him, body and soul.
Psyche didn't expect to find herself married to the glittering city's most dangerous killer, but something about Eros wakens a fire inside her she's never felt before. As lines blur and loyalties shift, Psyche realizes Eros might take her heart after all...and she's not sure she can survive the loss.

There was too much hype for this book so I bought on the release date
I DNF at 83%. I like smut, I like heat, I like retellings, etc. The problem is that Electric Idol has absolutely no substance.
Eros did a complete 180 without further exploration on why. From killing to marrying just because she was gorgeous... hhmmm
Then, let's not get started with Psyche. Yes I get it that the Olympus upper city society is fixated on social media or whatever but we get it, ok? No need to repeat every chapter that Psyche is so good at social media and at managing her image. I didn't find it brought substance to her character.
80% in the big showdown with Aphrodite was teased but ... I didn't feel invested in the story at all.
My biggest disappointment comes from the way Eros thought of Psyche's body. When he says "Each curve, dimple, roll". I may be projecting (I am no waif) but I found those comments too "in your face", yes we know Psyche is not thin and that is refreshing, but why say roll? I mean... come on! If a guy says to my face he loves my rolls and dimples, he goes out the door.
Also, it seemed the author was ticking boxes for the woke crowd: "non binary mention" check // "POC character" check ... when there would be immense opportunities to have a substantial character embodying a minority in a meaningful way.
Thanks but no thanks.

Eros knows pain and usually dishes it out as Aphrodite's 'Fixer', but he is overwhelmed by the kindness and respect that Psyche shows him when he is hurt that when his mother decides that he must kill Psyche, he can't bring himself to carry it out. Eros has a low opinion of himself, though even he won't sink this low. Eros binds himself to Psyche in the only way he can to protect her - with an offer of marriage.
They enter into a short fake engagement, but their passion and desire for each other quickly turn into deep feelings and hot and intense sex. Eros and Psyche are scared to look too closely at these feelings, especially as they think they are not good enough for the other. Their impending nuptials don't have the desired effect on Aphrodite as she puts another hit out on Psyche. Will Eros make the ultimate sacrifice for the woman he loves? Will Psyche decide that Eros is the one that serves to be protected for once and put herself in fatal danger to save him?
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Hades may be hot and darkly delicious, but the blond male lead character surpassed him this time. Eros is sensual, giving (cough) and burns for Psyche. I loved that Psyche was a curvy, vivacious woman that knew what she wanted and went after it. She wasn't a damsel in distress and was equal to her man. The tense action, thrilling romance, and incredible 'climax' hooked on every page. Overall, a fun, compelling and sexy read.

Now, I did a stupid thing when I read Neon Gods and actually sandwiched that between the first and second books in the A Touch of Darkness series (don't do that. Trust me). Even though that was not my best decision, I can say that I adored Neon Gods with a very high interest in Persephone's sisters. So... I was extremely excited for Electric Idol and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
We follow Pysche (Persephone's sister) and Eros, Aphrodite's blade.
Pysche is everything I love in a female MC - ballsy, relatable and all around a bad ass - even if she's not a dagger toting badass.
Eros is... well, I want to first say that Eros is blonde. Stay with me though because you know what? Eros has CHANGED THE GAME in our morally grey favourite characters. Thank you, Eros, for helping me cease my quick judgements on blonde men in books. You have shown me the error of my ways.
The book is filled with the deception we know and love in Olympus, an extremely clever modern day build of the mythological world, fake marriage and more time with the Dimitriou women (if only we could get a Callisto story now?)
This is definitely a story I will be rereading.

Eros does what needs to be done to protect his mother, Aphrodite. However when Aphrodite sets her sights on removing Psyche from the picture things start to get a little complicated.
Electric Idol is a high stakes romp through the wonderfully rich world Katee Robert has created. You'll struggle to put it down, as you get to know these two well-rounded characters. And as if the plot alone wasn't enough for the romance connoisseurs among us, there's spice, there's forced proximity and a subtle twist to 'only one bed'!

Electric Idol takes place in the same world as Neon Gods, which I adored, and focuses on Persephone's social media influencer sister Psyche and Aphrodite's son and fixer Eros
.
The dynamic between these two was addictive to read. Eros, always ready to do Aphrodites dirty work and believing himself to be a monster and Psyche knowing exactly how to play Olympus's power games while remaining true to herself, were perfect together
.
Forced together in a marriage of convenience, it was so much fun watching these two enemies slowly turn to lovers and the harder they fell the spicier it got 🥵🔥
.
The plot is fast paced, easy to follow with plenty of action and political intruige and I loved it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of spice, romance and Greek Mythology - this second book in the Dark Olympus series was definitely worth the hype and I can't wait for book 3

I loved Psyche and Eros, her pragmatism and intelligence and his battle with his demons. Once again this heavily focused on just the 2 mc, with snippets of characters from Neon Gods.
I like that the tension in the book is from external events rather than self sabotage or miscommunication, makes for a much more enjoyable read.
I will definitely be picking up the next book, in fact I'm off to order it right now.
