"I have a secret."

Let me preface this by saying that The Bargainer series is one of my all-time favorite series (we're talking like top three guys, these books are a big deal to me) so I had a lot of expectations going into this. Let me respond to that by saying that it did not disappoint. Seriously, I cannot get over how perfectly Laura has wrapped up Callie and Des' story.

"There will always be bad men, and they will take and take and take. But so will I. People like us are not victims. We're someone's nightmare."

After the explosive and emotional ending of A Strange Hymn, the Thief of Souls still plagues Callie's dreams and Des' kingdom is under the greatest threat it has ever faced. Callie and Des must piece together the clues they've been given to track down the Thief of Souls and put an end to his torments.

Now for the part of the review you're all waiting for: HOLY. GODS. This was a wild-ride! This book has everything I've come to expect from Laura Thalassa: witty comebacks, an air of mystery, shameless sensuality (LOTS OF IT), heartwarming romance, emotional turmoil, fiery and utterly terrifying women and villains that make your skin crawl.

I truly loved how much this story focused on Callie's siren nature and her learning to embrace her powers. YASSSS GURL. Callie's character ARC completes itself in this story and she truly becomes a force to be reckoned with, a nightmare, everything she was made to be. I've always loved how Des has willed Callie to welcome who she is and has never let his presence overshadow her. They have always felt like partners to me and it was no different in this book. While many of us are here for the ever charismatic Desmond Flynn, it is Callie's character that shines in this.

That said, Des is as satisfying as ever. I swear every time he uttered the words "ah, ah, ah" or asked one of his rhetorical questions I melted a little inside. Who needs a book boyfriend when you can kidnap Desmond Flynn and make him your book husband? Hah. Kidnap Desmond Flynn. Sure. You should be forewarned that Des gets a little feral and extra carnal in this, his fae nature is being pressured and he does rule over the night and everything that happens within it, after all. That said, I loved every little bit of it.

Furthermore, one of the BEST parts of this story is Temper. Get yourself a best friend that's a crazy sorceress who will help you take down your enemies. I have always loved Temper's character and there were subtle hints that there is more to her story. Fingers crossed that Laura gives us more of Temper AND Malaki. (Also: Malaki, looks like he could kill you but is really a cinnamon roll, just saying...)

"Even shadows can deceive and gods can die."

By the end of this story we are reminded once again that behind his crown Des is the ever-calculating Bargainer. For every secret you hold, he has a dozen. Nothing gets past him and he has a plan for every scenario. Seriously, there is a part near the end that will probably have you flying out of your seat and cheering with delight.

I'd also like to just say: the Thief of Souls … I KNEW IT. He has worn many faces but he was also exactly who I thought he would be! I was freaking out a little when his identity started piecing itself together more because all of my theories were totally validated.

Also - have you read Laura's The Unearthly series? These two series take place in the same world and there was a juicy little Easter egg dropped about that story as well!

In finality, an epic conclusion to an epic series. How will I go on with my life knowing I'm no longer waiting for more books about Callie and Des? The only thing that shall tide me over is knowing Laura Thalassa is out there, writing more stories with wonderfully devastating characters such as these. Excuse me while I super glue this to my favorites shelf because it's never allowed to leave.

AND THAT PROLOGUE YO.

4,0 sur 5 étoiles Solid Ending to a New Favorite PNR Series.

What a ride. The Bargainer series is one of my new favorite PNR series to date. I devoured all three books in the series in four days, I was so invested.

Dark Harmony is, like its title indicates, a bit on the darker side of things. Desmond Flynn a.k.a. the Bargainer is King of the Night Court in Faery. He is not particularly kind; he is mischievous, deceitful and a tad bit wicked and completely makes the series. Callie is his mate, part human and part Siren; her magic is fascinating. Together they make a dangerous duo, which is good since the Thief of Souls is looking to destroy Desmond and take Callie for himself, which seems a fate worse than death. Let’s hope the King of the Night will find a way to level the playing field.

The Bargainer series is definitely PNR. The romance is the center of the story and it is captivating with plenty of sexy times to be had. The side story, with women disappearing, only to show up asleep in caskets with a baby, the casket children who drink blood and prophesize, and male soldiers going missing never to be seen again was creepy and fascinating. It is like a dark fairytale come to life and I couldn’t wait to find out how it would end.

Rhapsodic was a bit sweeter (except when it wasn’t); A Strange Hymn a little more cruel but Dark Harmony is seductive and brings the love story of Des and Callie to a fantastic conclusion. My one and only complaint is maybe we spent just a smidge too much time in their love story and I wanted to get to the main showdown and find out how/if they would defeat the Thief of Souls.

Still getting to the end was bittersweet because I wanted to spend more time with Des and Callie. I loved hanging out with Temperance, the totally badass witch who will march into hell for her best friend and Desmond’s right hand man Malaki the bringer of Nightmares. They were two very strong side characters in their own right. I was so enamored with the world this was set in, I would have loved to tour more of the Night Fae realm with the gang. While I was very satisfied with the wrap up, I definitely could have still lingered in this world and for me that is a huge win for the author.

Is this series for you? Well, did you enjoy ACOTAR but really wanted a grown-up version with better characters that were darker and less YA/NA-edness. Then this is probably for you. I myself am looking forward to reading some of Laura Thalassa’s other stories with Dark Heroes after she did so well in both this series and Pestilence.

Quotes:

“You’re not bait, love. The fire is the bait. You’re an iron-manacled trap set to crush willful fairies.”

“So, that’s how it feels to be glamoured by a siren,” he says, the corner of his mouth curving up just the slightest, “like I’ve been caught by my balls.” He comes in close, his smirk growing. “The whole thing was horribly invasive. I rather enjoyed it.”

Narration:

I first listened to Susannah Jones with the Rock Chicks series. She is a good narrator who seems to have a lot of fun with the characters she is performing. She was a perfect pick for Callie who makes pop culture references and calls it like she sees it. She did a great job with all the main characters of this series. Jay Ben only makes a brief appearance in the few chapters from Desmond’s PoV, but he was a solid voice choice for the King of Night.

5,0 sur 5 étoiles Perfect conclusion to Des and Callie's Story

I don’t know where to start!!! Dark Harmony by Laura Thalassa is the final installment of The Bargainer series which I absolutely love. Prior to starting the book, I decided I needed to reread the previous ones. It’s been a while, and well I can always use more Des and Callie SO I dove into Rhapsodic and fell in love all over again with the Bargainer and his siren.

Please note that if you have NOT read the prior books in this series that there may be minor spoilers to them in this review.

Dark Harmony picks up right where A Strange Hymn and The Emperor of Evening Stars left off. The sleeping soldiers have awoken and are attacking all the Fae kingdoms at once with the goal of taking over. By dropping the readers right into the heart of the action, Thalassa creates a foreboding sense that carries through the entire book. Literally I was on the edge of my seat, holding my breath, unable to turn the pages fast enough.

Callie is adjusting to her new fae-like body. Thanks to the Thief and lilac wine, she is now immortal-ish and the Night kingdom is looking to her as Queen. This is not a role she ever wanted, and she finds herself at a crossroads. Is this the life she wants? She can have it, it’s hers for the taking or she can step back, but they may mean losing Des.

Des is as secretive as ever, however I find him endearing in this installment, especially after reading his novella. My heart aches for the Night King and the life he’s lived. I love how he gives Callie all the power. She is his equal, his match, and he never lets her feel as anything less than that. In fact, he takes pride in letting her run the show.

The plot is the culmination of the series. The Thief and the undead Gallagher are working together. Des and Callie are no closer to determining who the Thief really is. And fate is catching up. I’ll be honest that I felt like this was a retelling of The Damned the final book in Thalassa’s Unearthly series. It’s even hinted that this has happened before, yet it is also completely different. Y’all I was shocked! I laughed, I cried (like ugly sobbing) and sighed with relief multiple times throughout the book. Think of it as cycle: just when you think things are looking up, another twist comes to knock you for a loop 😉

Overall, I loved Dark Harmony. I might have needed a hug from my husband when I finished it, but it was perfect! It was the perfect ending to Callie’s story. I ached for her, but was like the Bargainer proud of the siren as she became who she was made to be. I LOVED Thalassa’s creation and I’m SO excited that there will be more stories set in this supernatural world. If you are a fan of the series, this final book will not disappoint. Haven’t started Des and Callie’s story yet? What are you waiting for?!?! I highly recommend you grab a copy ASAP if you enjoy urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

I used to love to read. For years I read nearly a book every day. But I found the stories were becoming repetitive. I lost interest in reading and hadn't read anything "for fun" for around 3 years. I seen Laura Thalassa's book 'Pestilence' on amazon after it came up in my reccomend list after reading the 'A Touch of Darkness' series. I thought I loved the horseman books. I read the other 2 books 'War' and 'Famine' and I rediscovered my love for reading. I needed more. But when I read the description for this book I didn't think I would like it. The first book was actually kind of hard for me to get into due to the constant jumps in time. It wasnt that it was difficult to follow it was just that it felt like the jumps in time happened between every 3 and 5 pages which was sometimes every chapter and sometimes twice a chapter. But if you push through that I swear this series is one of the most beautiful book series I've ever read and the time jumps stop in the second book.

I'm not one who cares about grammar much (not that I even noticed any mistakes) but I can't imagine the normal person like myself would even notice any issue with the grammar. I think maybe one thing that might make it difficult to get into is the author uses very modern descriptions when she speaks and thinks through her characters. I personally liked it and it made the characters more relatable to me. I felt as if I personally knew Callie and Temper.

I had seen some people complaining about the age gap between Callie and Des however nothing sexual ever occurs between them and personally I didn't feel feel it was any worse than the amount of romance that happened between Bella and Edward in Twilight.

I think their love was perfect... and this author is so extremely talented Im going to read the rest of what she has to offer even though they dont sound particularly my taste I'm just going to keep an open mind and hope that she blows me out of the water again.

Also, lastly this book talks about assault on women a lot and might be a trigger so proceed with caution if that might trigger you. However, I will add that this is NOT a wattpad story that romanticises that type of behavior.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 stars

Dark Harmony is the last book in The Bargainer series. When Callie and Des finally found The Thief of Souls things took a turn and now Callie is Fae and not immune to his powers anymore. With the sleeping soldiers waking up, they have a war to stop.

This series! I probably won’t stop praising it and recommending it! I loved every book and this book wasn’t an exception. The emotional rollercoaster this series took me on is everything I want from a fantasy series.

Everything about these characters, the bantering, chemistry, humor and love story made it amazing. There is so much dept to them, and you really see them evolve from the very first book. Callie evolved even more in this book. Towards the end of the book when it happened, you know what part I’m talking about, she really grows into herself and her power. She finds herself when she hid rock bottom and owned everything. She became a force to be reckoned with. I also loved how we all got reminded that behind his crown, Des is and will always be The Bargainer.

The plot of this book was awesome. After finally finding out who’s in league with The Thief of Souls and sort of who he is, they still can’t find them and still have a lot of problems on their hands. Not a moment of this book was boring and I just kept on reading, wanting to know what was going to happen.

I hadn’t seen the twists that there were coming and it was the best. I felt my heart beat in my chest from suspense and felt my heart stop at the twists and everything coming to light.

Overall, it was the perfect ending to this epic series and I enjoyed it immensely! This whole series was one wild ride and I loved it.

‘Dark Harmony’ is book three and the finale in Laura Thalassa’s The Bargainer series. This story continues on from ‘A Strange Hymn’, so highly recommend that the previous books are read prior. Forewarning: this book contains a lot of s*x scenes between H and h.

After the emotional ending of ‘A Strange Hymn’, with Callie almost dying, and Des not giving up. Things only pick up and not for the best, The Thief of Souls continues to plagues Callie's dreams, Des' kingdom is under it greatest threat and a ghost from the past is trying to take everything away. Callie and Des must piece together the clues they've been given to track down the Thief of Souls and the former King of Night, and put an end to their torments once and for all.

This book has everything you need and want in an enjoyable read; there is witty comebacks, mystery, heartwarming romance, emotional turmoil, steamy sex, awesome chemistry, and one epic love story. I have been enjoying this series with each book getting more addictive then the previous, but now I feel lost that it has ended. We have watched and witnessed this expl*sive relationship grow and blossom from the very beginning as acquaintances, to friends, to soulmates. Des and Callie’s relationship has been one emotional journey that i am so glad I got to witness.

So many unanswered questions will be answered in this book about who or what The Thief of Souls is, what he and Des’ father want, and so much more. So hold on to you hat as you are in for one bumpy ride.

We also get to see Callie really come into herself in this book, she really grows and accepts herself in this book, no longer allowing others to dictate and control her life, she takes control. She becomes someone’s nightmare.

Des is still his same old self, the comical bargainer, collecting secrets, punching Callie to be her full potential. But we also get to see he’s more Fae side in this one, he really gets pushed to his limits with people constantly trying to harms his mate. But we are also reminded why he is the Lord of Secrets and Master of Shadows, collect and listening.

Around the 70-80% you are going to want to throw your book, kindle or headphones away, but don’t, I promise it does get better you just need to stick through it. If I can you can too. Just what until you read the titles that Callie and Temper have in store. 😂

Such a wonderful experience it has been to read this series, and to be able to witness this world, characters and relationship not just between Callie and Des but also with Temper and Malaki.

I enjoyed this series! This the final book and I wanted it to continue with the other King Janus, Temperance, and Malaki. In this final book I started to appreciate the other characters and kingdoms. The climax of this book and series was a lot, quite the reveal. One of my favorite parts of this book-series was the love from Desmond. It was all consuming from his side. Through that love he brought Callie around. One of my favorite quotes from the book is from Desmond “The way fairies love … it’s the same way we live. It’s immortal, violent, irrational and unbendable. “I understand your words, cherub, because there are aspects of my love for you that are, simply put, unfathomable.” Desmond was so real in a harsh way that it did hurt. If you have read the other books you should finish the series. It is worth it to get the answers and enjoy the Night King. I read the author’s end note and she said that this trilogy consisted of five years of her life. I can tell that she put a lot in this series. I appreciate her efforts. . . . Happy to have spent time with Callie and Desmond. . . . Read On!

Well, I’ll admit the revelation of the Thief of Souls identity and his primordial nature took me somewhat by surprise. And, despite his considerable capabilities, it was fitting that his ultimate downfall was the result of a human vice – a temptation he was incapable of ignoring.

I enjoyed how this story played out within the Kingdom of Death and Deep Earth. This well written, entertaining tale features plenty of drama, angst, conflict, magic, and some humour along with seriously steamy encounters.
